Curious for your view on the Eddie Ford highlights I posted in the draft thread.
I think any player we target needs to be an A grader because we have most positions covered except for maybe a ready made key forward and a 2nd ruck. The development of our reserve players over the last 2 to 3 years means we have the depth to cover most positions. To me the next month will be interesting because the coaching panel will be able to determine if we have any deficiencies in our structure. If we have our full squad this will give the coaching panel the best opportunity to determine what type of ready made player suits our needs.

Cockatoo for nothing would be a GREAT pickup

Unsure why there’s so much hate for Stephenson. The boy can seriously play. And he’s a Brisbane fan 🤷🏻‍♂️

Stephenson is a bit of a first quarter specialist. Kicks his goal or two then gets clamped out of it.

The report is he is being offered a 1 year deal, low money. Kinda hard to demand a decent pick when you are offering that to keep him.

I think he would come cheap, and for what he can do he would be worth the gamble.

I have no idea of our potential trade targets, but unless it’s a deep draft, it’s not easy drafting A grade talent late in the first round.

A few have now been along the no DH line, entitled, etc in reference to Jaidyn. Aside from being a naive 19 year old, placing something minimal bets on AFL I am intrigued as to what else he has done to qualify such descriptions. Made a mistake & paid for it heavily.

l live down the road from his ‘normal’ middle class Melbourne family. I have never met them but my Mrs has known his parents for over 30 years - lovely people according to her.

Perhaps it’s guilt by association - let’s face it some teammates are not angels, but he has no pending charges & as far as I know has never been the subject of police investigations.

Personally I see him down at the supermarket & kicking the ball at the local oval, & there has been little things that I have seen that present him as a polite quite shy kid.

Fair enough you may prefer our club didn’t attempt to entice him, but I’m not sure that should be for anything aside from footballing reasons. Inferring anymore is just plain wrong in my eyes.
Yer, I don't like the critiques of players off field character unless they are proven eg. police charges and resulting guilty verdicts, serious club sanctions etc. I don't pay attention to unsubstantiated media/Big Footy rumours and character assassinations which are prone to exaggeration and clickbait.

I like attacking players would be a nice pick up down back good ball user ,speedy as well age 26 right age profile. I will leave it to the quote to say everything i wanted to . -Quote Adam Saad is no guarantee to re-sign at Essendon, according to AFL Media reporter Callum Twomey.

Twomey reports rival clubs believes it’s possible to pry the defender away from Tullamarine.

Saad is right in All-Australian contention, averaging a career-high 18.8 disposals and having a hand in 1.9 scores per game, ranking second among defenders behind Geelong’s Mark Blicavs.

Electrifying defender who was at his damaging best again in 2019, claiming third place in the Crichton Medal. Staunch in defence and inventive in attack, the speedster remains one of the league’s best small defenders and will play a key role for the Bombers again in 2020.

He left Gold Coast to be closer to family and his Muslim community in Melbourne. He’s not leaving Victoria to come back to qld.

totally get your point. what I would say he left at 23 years old @ the suns ,still young and now at 26 Years old ,I believe more mature (23 is still a young one in football terms) may want,I believe to look at a longer deal, for the simple reason your plans change as you get older and knowing football can be fleeting.MONEY in combination with a along contract might ( needs to think about His financial stability and as you get older and setting yourself up to look after your family financially) may be a compelling argument ,Along with the fact that the lions are in the premiership window and at that time he was at the suns they were nowhere near that window and players were leaving. Coupled with the fact the lions have, built, dare i say it, a fantastic culture compared to what it was back then At the suns. In football you never know what motivates a player to leave their club. At his age and getting older in football years ,this may represent an opportunity to good to pass up. No harm to make his money ,play in a possible premiership or two ,hopefully another 3 peat then retire back in Victoria financially set up for life.

He probably gets half a dozen comparable offers from other Victorian teams, to what we could offer him.

And as has been mentioned several times, he has a very prominent and active role in the Melbourne muslim community.

Edit: We’d be offering him stupid money if he were to be set up for life.

That’s not settling you up for life if it’s a 4 year contract.

Hodge said today that he believes clarko will sit down with everyone over the age of 26 will be asked if they want to stink around for the rebuild at the hawks! He believed even Mitchell and O’Meara will be asked the question or go somewhere else for success! Imagine we could snag someone like that to complement our midfield!!

I don't want Daniher

1) Injury prone

2) body shape too much like Hippy.......I firmly believe there is room for only one string bean tall forward in any side

3) appalling inaccuracy in front of goal . Technique is just awful.

Cameron or Ben Brown a much better fit IMO

So what is Cockatoo worth?

A future second round pick.
Delisted free agent at best.

As an aside, one of the footy programs said Cockatoo has family in Brisbane and "his people" are the indigenous tribe from Cape York in Queensland (apologies if "his people" is in the incorrect vernacular), so obviously moving to Queensland is pretty enticing aside from the extra security and money Brisbane will be offering.

Kind of weird if Cockatoo does join us. Like CEY he has been linked to us for years. I was very surprised when CEY actually joined us last year after being linked to us every year for 4 or so years. I thought it was just a throwaway rumour that never had any substance to it and I've thought the same with Cockatoo. Would love for us to pick him up and give him a shot though. If we can get him fit and on the park he may be another handy addition for years to come turning just 24 next month.

Interesting situation. Pretty sure he's been offered a one year contract at Geelong so don't think it would be as a DFA, but with the impending list reductions don't really see what use a pick beyond the second round this year will be to any team. He has some value for sure. If he didn't we wouldn't be interested in him. Future second round pick would be my ballpark for the trade.

I't true they have been stinking it up most of the year, except against us :poo:

Cockatoo will cost us next to nothing. Cats were going to delist anyway so they can't then turn around and ask for 3rd round pick. If we can get his body right and that's a massive ask - we might have a very good player on our hands.

He is the kind of player who at his best is an X factor who could be a very handy player coming on and off the bench for 5/10 min stints and causing some havoc. His father was a super player up in Darwin who played a little bit of footy for Port Adelaide in SANFL.

Worth the risk if he costs us next to nothing.

A Hawthorn fan over on their board has stated we have offered Issac Smith a 3 year deal. At age 31 surely not?

He's got 2 on the table from Hawks as well. He comes across a loyal type, doubt he'll move for the extra year.

Makes sense on why we'd go after him, UFA, nothing to trade.
