That’s fair enough.

I was just responding to some discussion that was on here already.

There is some speculation on our board, fuelled by an “in the know” poster, who dropped a little innuendo, without naming an actual player.
After the furore around the trade request earlier this year I think the Freo faithful are just fatigued with Neale chat. There's not really much excitement or appetite for a homecoming for him. Most of us don't really want him so get upset at the idea of paying anything other than peanuts for him to come over.

I'm rehashing what everyone already knows, but the disconnect between what we (and by extension probably the Club) value Neale at and his market value is likely why the trade fell over in the first place.

Much more valuable to us during the rebuild and his decision to reject that opportunity and chase the dollars is for him to hold.

well it will be peanuts at 30 with no contract at end of '23 so I imagine that would be taken into account if negotiations took place end of '22. It also won't help if McGowan keeps us locked down for longer with Julie's parents unable to fly back and forth to help with the babae.

Unsurprisingly, I don't imagine the deal would be as attractive for Brisbane as Briztoon would hope/expect it would be. I'm sure not going to lose any sleep over it.

RE Neale?
Or is this in regards to a player going back the other way?

Just trying to read between the lines

I don’t hope or expect anything if he’s out of contract.

If he gets traded, we get what we get.

I can guess a potential value, but I’m not hung up about it.

When it's eventually Rory Lobb and our 2023 1st for Lachie Neale and Brisbane's 2022 first round pick it won't be so bad.

Dayne Beams.
Wow. You are really selling me the deal here.
I mean, that turned out so well for the buyer didn’t it.
At the end of next season I’d see a Neale trade along the same lines of Shaun Higgins to Geelong. That was pick 33.
Maybe pick 25 would be fair for a 220 gamer with maybe 40 high level games of footy left in him. If it’s not likely that Neale plays in a freo premiership, you don’t do the deal of your freo, do you?

Whatever happens, happens.

Snuffaluphagus if you want to put it in the media thread.

Interesting teaser at the end there re Benning.

With arguably the three best West Aussies locked in at Freo, attention turned to the next pick at 54.

Fremantle had made no secret about their interest in NGA product Roy Benning, who they could have let slide through as a Cat B rookie if they wanted.

The problem was, they weren’t the only club interested in the forward/ruck.

It sounds good, but it isn't a competition to get the three best West Aussies. We got 3 of the top 10 national talents.

so Lobb and 18 for Neale & 10?
gotta be happy with that :)

Any suggestions involving a first round for Neale after we just drafted two inside mids should be treated with the contempt it deserves
Lachie Neale said it best, "They don't really need me, do they? They're doing pretty well as it is."
*I'm paraphrasing*
