Izak Rankine 2021 ave 12.1 disposals, 0.9 goals per game
Jimmy Rowe 2021 ave 13.5 disposals, 0.8 goals per game

One player people want to drop, the other people think is a gun. Oh and Rankine has also given away 27 free kicks to Rowe's 9.

One player has a mountain of potential and talent, the other is an old school footballer who knows how to read the game.

I wonder who'll go further?

None of the above has to be on the ticket

RANKINE at odds of 1/10.

With Jones and McHenry it's be patient, don't write them off too early, their talent will shine through, look how long it took Darcy Parish etc.

But also Izak Rankine hasn't done anything yet which means he never will, write him off NOW

But one player has a much higher ceiling and more AFL attributes

Why didn't we?

All our draft scouting data would have still been fresh plus Nicks coached him for a year

Doesn't fill me with a great deal of confidence that we'll build a quality midfield anytime soon
We paid zero to get him.

Maybe that tells you how we valued him.

What I find interesting is he's stagnated even as the Suns overall form has improved. He really hasn't been part of that resurgence.

Nice stuff for a 17 yr old

Nice spotting and passing to the player early but the 1minute mark long run and lead impressed. He decided from a long way out he was going to get the ball (look at his starting position to finish position) ie he started in the opposite back pocket and marked on the angle in the opposite flank

Worth keeping an eye on Riley Jr

Who is Westies forward coach?

It’s a recurring theme on this board.

what a number of people who post here need to get through their thick skulls is that most of these kids will only show glimpses until they’re 22/23/24 and have played 60-100 games. That’s when consistency will come.

we will also be a bottom 10 side for the next 3-4 years. We might scrape into the 8 in 2024 but we won’t seriously contend (assuming our rebuild goes to plan) until 2026/27.

Excellent point- as supporting evidence I submit Christian Petracca(25 years old & has peaked this season).

I still adhere to the old 80 game rule. Get a player to 80 games and you'll start to see them at their peak.

It isn't consistency which is expected to come at the 60-100 game mark. It's a step up in performance from being the rough mark that the body (and in some cases, the mind) catches up with the talent level, and where they begin to truly make their mark on the league which is expected.

A kid should be expected to be a consistently average footballer pretty quickly in the piece (I'd have the mark after 20 games). Of course, like everything it's case by case. I expect someone like Cook to be inconsistent for longer then I expect Berry to be because of how farther away Cook is from being at his physical peak then Berry.

There are certainly many cases that you could safely make a call at 20-50 games that they're no-hopers. Some you only need to watch the reserves to see that.

Salary? He didn’t come because GWS didn’t offer him a contract
He came for more AFL opportunities but that hasn't worked out too well for him.....and that's all down to one person, Jackson Hately who is but a shadow of the player we saw for SA at the Nationals and for Central Districts in the SANFL League team in his draft year. Just looks so pedestrian pace wise now and spends too much time focused on his opponent rather than using his size advantage to attack the pill.

I just hope it's not the coaching instructions to play so defensively when the balls clearly there to be won.

I reckon by 30-40 games they should have shown that they are worth persisting with. I wouldn't expect AA level performances but they should have shown some improvement in that time. Someone like Riley Knight should have been delisted after 40 games when it was clear he had no development left.

Would be nice to see a few of our guys make the 22 under 22 side. Butts and Schoenberg would have to be a chance.

I don’t watch a hell of a lot of senior footy, but I’m sure I’ve read a few pieces on here that say almost the same about Chayce Jones. Could they be coached the same?

NVB took over as mids coach this pre-season so you would hope not but the ? still remains.

Unless it's an instruction from above NVB's pay grade?

It's still the same coach, with Michael Godden still destroying careers in the SANFL.

Hard to know. I haven’t watched either player much of late. Seems a coincidence though that 2 boys known as ball getters come to the Crows and become more interested in what other players around the stoppage are doing.

Godden would be below NVB when it comes to midfield training programs, Hately's not a top up player he trains with the main group.
I've also seen all of our llne coaches at the SANFL matches talking to their groups at the breaks and obviously that would be the same at the half time breaks not to forget that the line coaches also do individual player reviews/videos after each game.

Yes... but Godden is the one who tells him what to do on game day, the one who destroyed Chayce Jones' confidence (only being restored now that he's no longer playing SANFL), and who is almost certainly responsible for Hately's demise as well.

I have never been a fan of Hately, but Godden does have a habit of destroying midfielders by getting them to focus too much on their opponents and not enough on their own games.

Thoughts on Godden's influence on Fogarty in the SANFL then?
