Had the potential to be (and really, had potential to be a Dangerfield like star if his groins/the club didn't curtail his explosiveness), however, Matt has so far had a better career than Brad. 1 AA to 0, 37 to 28 Brownlow votes etc. Though, Matt has really tanked in that metric as he was looking on pace to overtake Thommo after the 2017 season.

I can't see us getting any more than a late 1st, and really I do expect a band 3 compensation kind of deal here. It's just damn unfortunate we didn't have Matt contracted until 2022, seeing he's a really poor fit for our list/rebuild in the mid-to-long term, but another season would have allowed us to be a bit more patient with introducing Berry, and in particular, Pedlar into the midfield mix.

B Crouch was club champion and also stood up bigtime in our 2017 finals campaign. If it was me, i would have kept him as he has more hurt factor than matt imo

Sloane on current form is the poor fit not Matt, and it's hard to see Sloane turning it around in the twilight of his career unless he finds form big time he should no longer be a regular midfielder. I would also argue Matt's delivery into the forward line especially hitting up a leading forward is superior to both Keays and Laird's skyscrapers.

I think people forget how impactfull Matt was to our midfield when he was being played as the in and under inside mid feeding it outside the contest. For some reason the coaching panel last year seemed to try and change his game style to more outside....dumb move IMO, why try to teach an old dog new tricks when he was so effective at what he does best, hunt the pill, gather and feed it out....if only we had more effective outside users like Seedsman to take advantage!!!

Talia and Lynch will probably net something around a 3rd rounder if traded and probably nothing if free agents.
Crouch is likely end of second round. Maybe early second round if lucky.

These are a bit unrealistically low.

Crouch is probably 4 years at $650k from someone, and that would be a end of first round Band 2.

Talia is probably a shorter contract and probably $500k. Lynch is simlar length and less cash. Maybe $375k.

I think it is band 2, 3 and 4.

I do agree Matt is better than Rory but Sloane has the contract and Matt doesnt

Its why Matt is being shopped around and not Sloane

Their last couple of months have been good after a crap start. Currently 1 game out of the 8. If we beat the spluttering Eagles, Essendon are likely to be in the 8 after this round.

(1) If NM really want Horne, they will just take him and not consider such a trade.
(2) If they really want someone else, of course they would do the trade, laughing all the way to the bank. However, in this case, we would have no need to do the trade.

Totally wrong. They could be going to select Horne but don't see much between him and their next best. There is a point where you offer enough that they're happy with the slight downgrade. It all depends on the rating of their next best players as to what you need to offer.

I am just of the opinion that Brad is the better player of the 2 Crouch brothers and has more to his game. Not saying Matt is not good - far from it, but if we are keeping one of the brothers I would have loved it to have been Brad

Exactly where did I say Brad was awful on the day? He was far from awfu but certainly not his best Finals game, probably in our top 5 or 6 that day and way better than most of the team.

I think that we are seeing things from a similar angle - I just rate Brad when he is in form higher than Matt - but Matt is also a good player and if it is the difference letting him go for a speculative pick or retaining him at 5 years on between $500-$600K, at his age and with what he can do, I'd rather keep him. If we got band 1 (not going to happen), then sure, another 1st rounder would be reasonable recompense
