Hi all! I'm a BF newbie, so please be gentle. Just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm a lifetime Crows supporter and like you all I have endured the rollercoaster that has been the AFC over the past 20 years or so, but despite it all, I still love the club and I'm bullish about what we have done to our football department over the past 18 months to get us moving forward again.

I like to consider myself a common sense type operator (I like to stick to the facts and leave personal stuff out of my discussion as much as I can), but I just love robust sports discussion in general, so that's why I have finally jumped on the forum.

I also know an employee or two at the AFC and I have some extended family members that played high level footy and know many current AFL players, so from time to time I do happen across some little tidbits of info. and I will pass on what information I can, but I am not someone who will just post information to create unnecessary gossip, so hopefully everyone will understand that.

Anyway enough about me; I look forward to having some good discussions with you all in the future and I'm looking forward to another growth year from the club in 2022.

Cheers
Welcome to the board
We have a great crew here and wonderful moderators.
Regarding the latter I am the most beautiful mod.
🤣 :nogood::nogood:

No Johnson/JVR, any reason for this that I haven't heard about?

Also intrigued by Bazzo being named up forward
Can't help you there maybe some of the Sandgropers on the draft thread can help you out.

Alex Condon in the U17 game is the guy I'm most keen to get another look at, looks an unbelievably talented tall.

What on earth is this formatting.

Also happy to be on the K.Rypstra draft train if he gets rid of the a at the end of his surname. So close to an all consonant surname.

Frankly, it was the win over Hawthorn that cooked us.
Oh yeah, wasn't that one of our most satisfying wins of all time, one to cherish and remember and tell grandkids about - NOT! Said it at the time, it will cost us JHF and it has.

I've watched him live a number of times, he is so far in front of players like Luko and Rankine it's not funny. We will regret that junk win against Hawthorn for 15 years

But can North literally afford to say NO to multiple 1sts given their financial viability in the AFL?

Sure teams like Hawks, Pies can take a longer time for their rebuild. Im just not sure North can afford to do this and then lose him in potentially 2 years time and then develop new kids again.

I agree about your thoughts of selling this idea to their fans. However, it would be stupid on those grounds IMO.

North of all teams IMO in Victoria wont keep an elite kid from SA long term on their list.

You’ve made that point a bit. I think last night you gaurunteed he’d leave North and now you’re only fairly confident.

Fair enough. It is a concern.

I think you lose a bit of credibility when you bring up financial viability of the club. Given basically a decade of profits, no debt, and literally record membership in a year when we won the spoon.

Our record of player retention speaks for itself. Daniel Wells was always going back to WA until he didn’t. We took Tom Powell in the first round last year and he signed an extension after only winning one game.

Plus I wouldn’t think JHF has to do too many hard yards. With 7 top 13 draft picks under the age of 23, including some top level talent, we’ll be in the finals mix within a couple of years.

What is next years draft pool like?

Who should we keep an eye on this far out?

Dont be salty. Its a Crows board. Just like how I wont go over to any other board and defend comments made about the Crows.

Truth be told, I genuinely wish North relocated to QLD or to Tasmania. There is too many Victorian teams ruining the AFL overall.

Im very comfortable with what I said, North is not a big Victorian Club and JHF, in my opinion wont stay at North if he becomes an elite player.

If you need to use Wells recruited in 2002 as your argument, then youre in a bit of trouble already.

Harry Lemmey, Kobe Ryan, Will Verrall, Isaac Keeler, Adam D'Aloia, Jaiden Magor, Max Michalanney, Nick Saddler, Koby Cockshell, Mattaes Phillipou, Brodie Tuck and that's just the SA players off the top of my head, probably missed a couple too? DaKids

Well it’s just hard to find someone under the age of 26 that’s left North, to go home, as a point of comparison.

And just because I don’t agree with your personal guarantee that JHF will leave North doesn’t make me salty.

I’d argue you trying to convince everyone that he will leave represents something a little on the salty side.

you are assuming that JHF will be a hit rather than a Tambling.

and for that price he does have to be a HIT, he has to wear a Brownlow in the future otherwise we overpaid. Just being a decent player and best 22 will be a failure.
If we win a premiership, and he plays in it and contributes to the win then that's good enough for me, I don't care about individual awards we all want a premiership, it's why we're willing to sell the farm because we are trying to build a team that could win one. We already put a focus on SA talent because we know they won't leave, so we build for 6 years and know they're going to still be there. Even if we keep pick 4 and draft a Vic mid there is no guarantee they're gonna hang around if it turns out they're elite.

There is no guarentee that they'll stay if they turn out to be one of the best players in the competition?

You think RT isn't going to get million dollar a year offers if he keeps progressing? He might decide to take one.

Just look at Suns and GWS being raided, its impossible to keep a list together when teams are offering million dollar contracts to potatoes like Carlton did.

Being local, just gives you a better chance of holding them, but no guarantee. Nothing is in life.

Hard to improve on that list my friend. I might just chuck in young Tatolli from Centrals and also Tyson Walls/Taj Rahui - that’s about the group I’d reckon.

Magor is the special I think - serious X factor that boy.

Also to everyone saying we don't need the picks because we've got all our key positions filled with young promising blokes

1)Some of those players won't come on the way we're expecting. Some will stagnate and regress and not make it
2)Some of those players will leave us, it's just the nature of the beast.

Having just enough isn't actually enough.

Is D’Aloia a bit of a standout? He seems to be getting a lot of midfield time for an underaged player and I definitely noticed him in the Allies game.
