So you're saying we traded Phil Davies and pick 10 for Brad Crouch?

I’m not saying anything. The FACT is we traded pick 10 & the compensation pick we got from losing Phil Davis for the no.2 pick in the mini draft we preceded the main draft

Luke Brown was a throw in.

this is not up for debate

I know we desperately need an elite mid, but is there any chance we go Mac Andrew? I’ve only seen some highlights, but could he be a gun of the game? With his athleticism he could play anywhere and we wouldn’t need to touch our big man stocks for a long time.

I know WaynesWorld19 has long had a thing for him, but what do the hard core draft watchers think? Could we do it?

Fair enough, I always thought Brown was more than steak knives in the deal

nah. The Davis pick was to follow our first round pick the following year. Expectation was it would be around 11, but after the Sando bounce in 2012 it ended up being 18 or thereabouts

Brown was the Dean Gore in that deal, and he’s turned out a half decent player (unlike Gore!)

You should tag in the draft watchers

ModernArtillery
Thunderstruck
Mutineer
Jeffcrowe
Danger in Texas

Assuming we don’t succeed in giving the King’s ransom for JHF, I hope we hang on to 4 and don’t down grade for another later pick. We need a classy midfielder. I know Callaghan has some risk attached but no more than JHF is for North. From the little I’ve seen of him, I see a Cotchin like player. I don’t see us getting that top level midfielder at 7, and definitely not at 15. We don’t need another Chayce Jones or McHenry. (All due respect, they are good but not elite players). We need an elite midfielder.

I think it is unlikely, but if we were to draft for a player with the highest ceiling, it would probably be Mac Andrew. He could be anything...or nothing.

I think he’d be strongly in the frame if he was available at our pick but don’t think he makes it to us

not sure we’d take him but he would be one of our options we’d consider , he’s a stand out talent even though he would take time
So that high, if he does slip through we are going to have an interesting choice. If he does then Callaghan is obviously gone.

Andrew is so hard to rate. He could easily end up the damn best ruck in the league with his athleticism and versatility, showing flashes of what he could become this year, but he's still quite a means off of becoming that. In regards to tall talent in this crop, he's behind Darcy and Amiss for mine, but just ahead of Gibcus

With the precedent being set for top-tier ruck talents being taken high with Jackson (although Luke in 2019 was further developed than Mac currently is), I can totally understand if GWS wanted Andrew at 2, it's risky but the pay-off is huge. I could get behind us taking him, I'd prefer a potential midfield talent like Callaghan, Erasmus or Goater at this point in time, though

Personally, I'd be stunned if we went with Mac Andrew. I think if we were going to go key position we'd favour Gibcus but even still I think that is unlikely. It makes too much sense for us to go for a midfielder and I don't think our recruiting team has favoured the ultra-raw athletic types in the past, so it would surprise me if we went that way this time. There appears to be some quality key position talent in next years draft, in which I suspect we'll have another early selection, so I'd prefer to wait a year to address our KPP needs.

You are right though, Mac's blend of size, athleticism and talent are pretty special. It's rare to see a kid of that size be so smooth with the footy. I still feel the transition to AFL footy might be a challenge for him, but equally if everything goes right he could be anything. My preference would be for us to look at one of the mids available. Even if Callaghan is gone we'll still have a choice of players who I feel have more upside than the other young midfielders on our list (ie Hobbs, Ward, Erasmus, Sonsie etc).

Ended up being pick 20. A good trade for the Crows (10 and 20 for Crouch and Brown).

I’ve got a feeling GWS will trade down from pick 2 with either Richmond or Hawks .

this is how I see the top 6 or so playing out

pick 1. North JHF
Pick 2. GWS trade pick to Richmond who choose Callaghan (don’t think they bid on anyone else)
Pick 3: Gold Coast who pick Daicos. Matched by Collingwood
Pick 4: Gold Coast pick Mac Andrew
Pick 5: Crows trade with Hawks
Pick 6: Hawks pick Hobbs or Ward
Pick 7: we pick Rachelle Rachelle
Pick 8 : freo pick Erasmus
Pick 9: GWS bid on Darcy and is matched by the Dogs
Pick 10; GWS pick Gibcus

In fairness an educated throw in. He meant nothing to GC as they had pre access to a heap of kids and he wouldn’t have been on their radar. So we leveraged him in to lessen the price for Crouch. A very astute move

You could understand GWS going tall given their midfield strength

No

Next year is the draft for talls.

Wouldn't have been in SA's top 10 until the last quarter and I'd say he got close to half his disposals in the last quarter.
He needed to step up and he did.

Article indicates he was thrown into the middle in the last. Where did he play the first 3 quarters?

Draft Callaghan and in 2 years if he and JFH both seem decent just do a straight swap lol

Nah he played around the ball quite a bit all day, just came to life in the last quarter.

The replays still available, links on page 379

Edit : Without being there he might have had managed minutes because there were periods where he didn't feature?
