FAQs & Resources Thread

It has an index at the top with threadmarks so it's easy to find what you're looking for – or easier than scrolling through 250 pages of AFL Rules, Regulations and CBA pdfs anyway.

These sorts of questions are all answered along with a bunch of other resources made by posters from across BigFooty (feel free to add to it!):

You’ve changed your team, Sam

No. Somebody who does not know me did it for me. I promise you every time I'm in Sydney I always give my money to GWS, every time I'm in Perth I always give my money to the Dockers. Every time I'm in Melbourne I give my money to the team that's playing the best footy, this year Demons have gone alright.

I'm a national football supporter - sorry Bigfooty dont have a definition for that ( not that that is a problem to me). I've been a Giant the day StevieJ walked in the door. I remained a Giant like the positive culture you are building, back in the finals all good.

Yes, the Demons have gone alright. Previous to that you could have accused me of being a Tiger. Previous to the Tigers you could accused me of being a Geelong boy.

What I like is clubs that look after their players - dont want them traded after every loss. What I like is club that stick with their coach if he has a contract win, loss or draw the premiership. I like a club building a positive supportive culture. But surely each to their own.

If you want to sack the players after every loss and sack the coach after every non-winning premiership year - feel free, go right ahead.

Would love to see the Weideman at Giants - I think he has something to offer. But think general sentiment is cost is too high - fair enough, happy with that.

I think we are committed to Young Fahey - general sentiment Swans are no problem at the pick before us. Yip, I support that.

Wtf? Where have I gone after any players or our coach?

Just throwing this out there but should we be prepared to offer North our two 1st rounders for the 1st live selection to lock in Horne-Francis or better off to hold our picks and go with selections like Callaghan and Amiss.
I really don't think its worth it to grab another inside midfielder, at least Callaghan can excell on the outside as a winger.

Firstly, I don't think that Norths do that. Or if they did, it would be because they decided not to go Horne-Francis, and worked out they could weasel an extra first round pick from us and still get the guy they wanted at #2 (#4 after father-son bids)..

So, no, I wouldn't. Horne-Francis would be good as a pressuring & goal-kicking half-forward, who could transition into a midfielder; but he's not that far ahead of Callaghan (or others) IMHO that we waste another first round pick to get him. Callaghan to provide an alternative midfielder skillset to our existing squad plus a (likely) tall at #13 would be my preferred course of action.

Its a really good question and I don’t know if there is a clear answer as both scenarios are good.

I could see North entertaining that as they have a few holes in their list but by all accounts they love Horne-Francis and it’s practically locked in.

After thinking about our situation a lot I think unless we are offered an additional 1st round selection either this year or next, and at least one top 10 pick, then we should probably sit pat and take Callaghan.

Whilst Gibcus is also a nice player Callaghan is clearly in the top rung and that comes from a bunch of recruiters and also some pundits.

I reckon we have to take best available and I’d be shocked if he isn’t top of that list at Pick 2 (which will effectively be Pick 4).

We are going to have a bunch of nice options for our natural pick that comes in the teens.

There won't be a stack of interest from other clubs for Flynn, I imagine he stays.

The development years are all done, he's cherry ripe to take over number 1 ruck role and with our list he has plenty of competition for that spot. I see a few options for him if he wants opportunity.
Goldstein is 34 next year, not sure who is supposed to replace him.
Bulldogs are playing a makeshift ruckman partnered with English with Stef martin at the end.
Would be first ruck at Geelong.

Quick ?s for you and anyone else who can answer

Did the Giants have a academy ruck prospect in this years draft? I thought i read some stuff about him earlier this year and he was rated as a chance but maybe with no footy he has fallen off the media radar?

Also has it been confirmed the alt list for KPP prospects (Protected players) starting this draft?

TIA

The only one I can think of is Jack Driscoll who's a 200 cm KPD/ Ruck, was eligible last year as well and drew some interest from Victorian clubs in the pre-season supplementary signing period. Being 200 cm he's probably worth a shot, good in the air naturally but skills are a big question mark, but no we don't have any 18 year old ruck prospects. Next year we have Nick Madden who's already 204 cm so would be our second tallest player if we took him, strong bodied and a good mark from what I've seen, can't say anything about his athleticism stands out as good or bad so is one to watch, would want to see him against other states next year because it'll be a good year for Rucks

Don't think it's confirmed yet but seems to be a pretty much done thing

What I took from last nights game was the importance of the mobility of your key defenders and Taylor and Haynes are capable but if Keefe and Davis play together next year it really effects that rebound and highlights the importance of 2 tall defenders in this years draft/trade period that suit this
Not sure where Fleeton fits this with the lack of game time for him but hopefully with a good pre season he could step up in the early part of the season until Buckley and Keefe are back from injury
And it is also why I think Talia is not a good fit for the club

Not sure if anyone here has a contact within the club, more specifically the academy, but I've got a really particular question about our prospect Harry Rowston. There's a Harry Rowston listed for Calder Cannons in Victoria that must be boarding at Assumption college because his local club is Echuca. The one in our academy is from Griffith so I'm wondering if this is the same guy or if there's two Harry Rowston's in the draft.

That sounds so weird typed out lmao

Thanks for the well informed answer

With Mumford likely to retire, Preuss injury prone and the ruck being having a higher rate of injury the reserves had to rope in a ruck so I can see the club utilising the option to have a ruck prospect outside the list to call in if needed and if Driscoll is an option this year or they hold off for Madden next year
I do have faith in the current 3 it is more looking 5 years down the road with the development time

From what I've seen there'd be nothing wrong with rookie listing Driscoll for the year as a 'break glass in case of emergency' option and then going Madden in next years draft, but I agree with your worry of not just Preuss but Flynn as well being injury prone
