FAQs & Resources Thread

It has an index at the top with threadmarks so it's easy to find what you're looking for – or easier than scrolling through 250 pages of AFL Rules, Regulations and CBA pdfs anyway.

These sorts of questions are all answered along with a bunch of other resources made by posters from across BigFooty (feel free to add to it!):

Will Mac get to 13 (15)
If we dont pick him, who will?
Maybe Gold coast, if so, will Gibcus than slide to 15?
I think if we go Callaghan, there is a reasonable chance that one of Andrew or Gibcus is available at 15.
Suns have put time into both, Swan would be certainties to take Gibcus

well since you left..... there is a hole in our goal scoring.....

Wanna come back in 2023?
I am not Jeremy. I have tried to convince others on Geelong board the need to trade out players or accept a salary cap dump ( to utilise the cap space in 2023,2024,2025), but to no avail.
I think a bit of Chris Scott's sense of entitlement has rubbed off on some posters, not all though.

I am really growing into the idea of moving our pick 2 down the order to Hawthorn for their first pick and a future first or even 2 seconds (one this year and one next year). I would love us to take Mac Andrew. Yes, much riskier than taking Callaghan but Big Mac could be a generational type talent ala Franklin. Plus from what I can tell from his background he could really bring a lot of the Western Sydney multi cultural community along to our games. In the end it is pretty important to grow the game in that part of Sydney.

I don’t see a need for any more mids as I really love the look of a player such as O’Halloran who is on the edge of the team but is prime to take the next step.

Let’s go big, get creative, fill a couple of needs, find some x-factor and win the flag in 2022!

What if Callaghan is the X-Factor and we overlook him??

every year every club overlooks someone (often multiple times) that turn out to be a great player.

what if?

then we talk about “sliding doors” for a decade

and the flavour of the sliding doors discussion depends on who we take and how they turn out.

relax and welcome whoever we do choose.

O’Rourke haunts me.

I hope we don’t squander this one too.

Absolutely.
But when it is the obvious choice, it hurts more.
Callahan is the obvious choice.
If Sonsie (just picking a name with talent) becomes a star, you wear that, as there were question marks that lead to that decision.
Mac Andrew falls into that second category for me. Absolutely could be a star, but there is a lot of questions. You take that risk at 10, not at 2, in my opinion.

Yep that's why we trade down, pick up more draft collateral in to next year hopefully. Imagine having 2 first rounders next year and if the under agers get to play a whole year of footy.... We will have clubs very envious of our position. Especially the Saints and Bombers who will be falling over themselves trying to get enough draft collateral to get Ben King back to Vic

This is true sir. Have you seen the athleticism on Big Mac though? Woweee. He is a real bring the fans through the gate type player. I see Callaghan as a Josh Kelly / Whitfield type and we already have Kelly signed up until 2067 haha

I’m no great judge mate, seen clips but jeez I think it’s a huge reach at 2. Very happy to take at 13 but not at 2.

Think the Hawks aren’t going to drop down though. Risky move for mine

It's a good point there's going to be teams dying to trade back next year to get enough picks for King if he doesn't resign, it could end up being a bit cheaper then it normally would be to move up and secure a top talent.

I don’t believe you….

Can you teach me how to fish?

Well I have stated earlier I want us to trade down with someone like Hawthorn or Richmond where Mac is likely still available plus also get the bonus of an extra pick next year if that's the way we go

Makes a lot of sense and also think the club is mindful to make the most of the draft capital we got from the Cameron deal and by trading down the club is bringing in 2 more 1st rounders that are linked to the Cameron deal on top of the 2 first rounders from last years draft.

I would not be a fan of the Andrew selection as yes he does seem to be a talent but I dont see a need for him, if he had form as a KPD or a high scoring KPF then yes and I think with a young team and I see Andrew as needing a lot of development it would takeaway from the development of others. If the team had a different dynamic (More experienced players, coaches and a higher soft cap) I would be more supportive
Could trade #13 for the Demons 1st rder this year and next then they could pick him up

If they only take 3 picks I would like to see Callaghan, Van Rooyen and Fahey. May need to split #13 depending on where VR could go as #13 may be too high

Hartley could be an option in the rookie draft as cheap depth for the season although he may be too similar to Stein and I see an option of a swap of TOJ with a tall defender with the Crows Himmelburg or Murray
