Key Off-Season Dates

It has an index at the top with threadmarks so it's easy to find what you're looking for – or easier than scrolling through 250 pages of AFL Rules, Regulations and CBA pdfs anyway.

These sorts of questions are all answered along with a bunch of other resources made by posters from across BigFooty (feel free to add to it!):

Last year we had an option on MacDonald from Melbourne - could we consider a 20 pick downgrade to grab Weiderman this year? Plus we accumulate points for Fahey.
I've pondered similar myself. I'm just not certain that he's an improvement on either HH or Finlayson; he's certainly not better than Jesse Hogan except for the injury issue. The problem would be the cost - I wouldn't be happy to give away a first round pick to get him and Fahey, I think that would squander the value of the pick.

If Riccardi does leave, we would need to look at options to replace him - perhaps a look at other untried VFL options? A bit harder given the last 2 years of disrupted AFL!

Ok so you are ruling out

13 for Weederman & 33. It values him at pick 30!!! I was not averse to 13 for Wiederman & 42.
The guy averages a goal a game after 6 years on a list .... he’s worse than Riccardi and why bring in other people’s trash? At least Jesse showed something and offers real upside

Good point! But I'm not convinced yet. Weiderman surely is ready to go? Untried VFL option how long will he take to get up to speed and it is a massive risk. Weiderman looks like a proven VFL option.

Weiderman has had 6 years in an AFL system and is yet to show he's a quality key forward option, I don't get the allure of him at all outside of trading a later pick as a flyer on him. Anyone with the expectations that he's going to be a good forward next year is likely going to be disapointed.

That seems like that would be very high for Fahey and unlikely, not really a position of need anyway but he would be a nice option to have

I like the idea of upgrading 13 but you always seem to pay overs to move up. But I also liked the idea of a KPF, Fahey with pick 33 and maybe Callahan or best available with Pies pick.

I think we would be mad not to try and get a proven VFL player over an unproven. Not sure Melbourne would do this but you always have to pay over to move up.

Us - 13 & 50
Melbourne - Weederman & 33 & 42 that values him at pick 35. Melbourne paying for Fahey.

I think best case scenario that's some what realistic imo is Callaghan, KPF with our pick at 13 hopefully Amiss is still there and then bid on Fahey after that which seems likely early to mid 20's. I'm not too bothered about the idea of trading up especially if it all it costs is a few mid round picks to make sure we get a player like Amiss, might have to move into the 8-10 range to land Amiss which I don't think would cost too much.

come on, Sam, what exactly do you see in Weideman that isnt covered by Hogan, HH, Sproule, Flynn and TOJ and we aren’t even certain Riccardi leaves yet

We need someone who can clunk as backup for Hogan. HH and TOJ are too similar.
I 100% agree, and you could probably add Sproule to that list of ''sameness''; but as per Orange crush, I'd see Flynn & Briggs as the heavier ''clunkers''. I must admit, when Hogan went out of the SF team, I would have put Briggs in - not only to back up Mummy in ruck (who did a fantastic job as solo ruck though) but to act as that marking forward.

I don't see Sam Weideman as a bigger ''clunking'' forward, so hence I'm not motivated to pay heavily for him.

You could potentially go and get Mason Cox as a spare ruck and heavy marking forward, cheap if he's DFA by the Pies, and late (in the PSSS) if we don't want to waste a list spot during ND/RD. He's not much chop, but you don't get a star cheap/PSSS!!

I note that Hawks just released Michael Hartley - ex-Penrith lad, NSW-scholarship selection by Collingwood, ex-Bomber. He might be an option for a cheap PSSS pick up to cover for the Keeffe/Buckley LTIs. He's no star, but as a cheap backup for 1 year, he might be OK if that's the way we need to go.

Early best 22:
Haynes Stein Idun
Cumming Taylor Ash
Kelly Ward Whitfield
Greene HH Lloyd
Daniels Hogan Hill
Preuss Hopper Taranto

Coniglio Briggs Green Perryman

Close: Bruhn, Peatling, XOH, DeBoer, Stone, Sproule, Keeffe, Angwin, Flynn.

We are building genuine depth that is more mature. Not just 18 year olds.

Flynn forward/ruck with Briggs or Preuss Gives us that
That's why Flynn is such an important signing he looked so comfortable as forward and can be the ideal third tall when Hogan is there and then when he isn't still offers a good marking target while all at the same time being a good ruck that give Briggs/Preuss a breather when needed.

This is the type of money ball thinking I hope our team are looking at ... not sacrificing pick 12 for Sam bloody Weideman who offers absolutely nothing

See Michael Hartley has been delisted, might be worth a look for some short term depth.

I agree with most of it, would likely swap Preuss and Flynn, no Tom Green is odd, I'd drop Hill to be able to squeeze Green in he's too good to leave out. Also if Keefe is healthy and looks anything like he did this year he plays over Stein.
