Early stages suggest that the top 3-4 SA kids are all mids. Can you imagine if we could nail them all?

There is no way Kelly is an RFA. Has to be UFA.

Nah, we'll be looking at another 5-8 kids next year. We're not in a position to only take 3, yet.

There are 6 pretty obvious changes to our list (3 ND, 3 RD) and I reckon we might let one of Laird, Smith, or M.Crouch go as well. On top of the possibility of list sizes returning to normal which will give us another 2 players we can choose.

Not too bad. Talent in all areas. Probably the biggest deficiencies IMO are ruck depth and midfield experience.

If the Cat B rookies make it and get upgraded that will lessen the need to draft players over the next couple of years.

It would, though i'm pretty sure we can give someone a cat b rookie spot for 2 years before we're forced to upgrade.

It'd definitely save the need to use 4th round picks, though that might be a negative with Ogilive.

Frampton contracted until 2022 though? One of the back up ruckmen probably stays regardless

Will Lachie Murphy remain first choice?
 
There are also some really good potential NGA'S next year, who would sit outside of the first round.

He was originally drafted in 2013, so a contract taking him through to the end of 2023 would make him a 10-year player. All 10+ year players are UFAs.

you sure? For players above the pay threshold, I thought they had be restricted first regardless of years played.
Sloane was restricted even though he was in his 10th year.

My question is about when the ‘final year’ of the contract starts. Is it Nov 1 or Jan 1?

Yep, fairly sure...
Players who are in the top 25 per cent of salaries at their club (that is, in the club’s top nine-10 paid players) are eligible for restricted free agency the first time they are out of contract, if they have served at least eight years with the club.

For example, a player who is contracted after his seventh year for one, two, three, four or five years will be eligible for restricted free agency when next out of contract having completed either eight, nine, 10, 11 or 12 seasons respectively.

A top 25 per cent player is eligible for unrestricted free agency when next out of contract, provided a player can never be an unrestricted free agent until completing at least 10 years’ service at one club.

Mrouch is currently contracted to the end of 2021, with 2021 being his 8th year. AFL contracts run from 1st Nov - 31st Oct, so he's now in the 8th year already. His existing contract, which expires on 31st Oct 2021, will be the first time out of contract after serving 8 years. A 2 year contract extension would take him to 10 years and the 2nd time out of contract, which makes him a UFA.

It would be a different story if we'd signed him to a contract extension on 30th Oct, but that boat has already sailed.
