Just got to say that co-captains makes me puke.
It's a one man job. Pick the strongest most extroverted character and he should lead through his actions on the field as well.
Dilemma is Cripps not cutting it.
Docherty not even cutting it to hold his place in the side.
Walsh is too young I feel.
Who else?
Nobody springs to mind. We lack strong characters and sadly this is part of our overall problem.

i would say Liam Jones or even Weitering would be pretty down to earth captains

As much as he has given us, Ed is a real problem.. He is a lock down midfielder or bust.. he isn’t good enough to play any other role and I feel we have been trying to ‘find’ him a role to keep him in the side, but it’s failing miserably to the detriment of the team.

We have two genuine mids cripps and Walsh - just tag with Ed - for some reason we refuse to ..

it’s to try and do what everyone has been crying out for, allowing Dow and Setterfield to play in the midfield. Murphy made way so Walsh could move from the wing into the guts.. Now Ed is doing the same.
Also the best teams in the comp do not play a lock down midfielder, I Imagine DT is trying to replicate this, however Ed is a sacrificial lamb because he can not play another position.

No this has just masked some giant problems and given us a false sense that we are not that far away.. The last 3 games have shown this couldn’t be further from the truth

I think the current group are pretty solid,Russell has them pretty fit holding up and dont believe them to lose focus on their jobs for any particular reason
There may be issues i could imagine in selection decisions as an example...Plus list deficiencies as i have already quoted the Mid depth is non existant,we still have have cripps alone with our wingers, and our running tagger in Ed and that about it..........................no wonder
Putting dow in the guts to get slaughtered week after week....might as well focus on this step right here..

We are actually bereft of a good ruckman one would think.
So getting more midfielders with no one to hit to them........hmm
Wouldn't be surprised with our club at the moment,
to go after another mid to push another mid to the pockets.
I thought you trade to address problems but any way what do I know.

Cerra will do what Neale did for the Lions and transform them to a finals team?
That is the move we need,we need some punch through the midfield....unfortunately that will be the step we require
it is possible ,things just have to line up right now and it will happen

It’s logical makes a lot of sense both SPS & Fisher would be happy to go back and would make our offer attractive. Although both very small type players both are rated in their state.

Neale was already an elite player when he left for Brisbane, Cerra is just a decent prospect with potential and far from the magic bullet many hope.

I’d look to offload Docherty and Newman. Replace them with two midfielders.
Docherty would have value to a team like Geelong.
If Cripps wants to go I’d let him. I’d try and get Green from GWS as his replacement.
I’d chase Cerra at the right price too.
I’d swap next years first round pick for another this year, then keep doing the same. Demons live in first round debt year to year.

You are talking about another re-build..GWS will not release Green. They are not as gullible as our recruiting people are.
Docherty needs to focus on his game. Not sure the Captaincy is doing him any favors.

I’d bank on the output of SPS and Fisher at Freo being better than Cerra at Carlton. No slight on Cerra but I’d be confident on Freo playing and properly cultivating Fish and SPS

Whether you like or dislike Teague, the thing I have noticed over the past 6 weeks or so, is how NOT one senior player has come out with the coach at the press conference to stand with DT, and take some of the heat and accept some responsibility for the poor performances. That in itself is pretty gutless, and tells me a lot about the leadership of the group. I am not saying it should be done every week. The players would recognize that the club is going through a very difficult period and that an appearance by Cripps or Dochs or Saad would show the supporters and sponsors that the players are accepting some of the blame, and not just pushing another coach onto the chopping block.

We have posters on this forum who week in and week out defend these players and the coach and defending almost the indefensible, which is a credit to them. But when the players are not prepared to stand by their coach and come out and draw a line in the sand and speak from the heart how much this is hurting them, then that tells me that there is a serious issue at this club.

I noticed the same things with BB; sniping, rumours being leaked and who benefitted and when he was sacked, rejoicing and how the players were now allowed to play the way they wanted since BB left.

To paraphrase John Dean, there is a cancer growing within this playing group of unaccountability, lack of responsibility, passion and commitment. It needs to be eliminated urgently.

Think you need to check Dow’s stats again.
Cerra nearly doubles him in most categories.

Our problem is right now we’re in no mans land. We’ve topped up and we’re miles away from being competitive let alone finals.

I’m looking forward to the “why the hell is Cripps spending so much time forward” when Stocker gets more time in the midfield

Last years draft has really stuffed us i believe in the sense we absolutely should not have given up pick 8 for Saad. We should of taken the best midfielder available with Williams coming in anyway we already had Docherty and Williamson as running HBFs now we have 4, 3 of those dont really defend greatly so we've sacrificed defence for speed while our midfield is a 2 man show (Cripps and Walsh)

We should of taken Bruhn or Perkins with 8 and we got Carroll which was a great pick up.

We also have no KPD depth coming through, so we will probably pull the trigger early at the draft again, at the cost of the midfield.

Dow and Obrien picks have hurt us along with our lack of later draft picks.

The pressure on nailing this draft is phenomenal.

Dodoro having the last laugh it seems. They have picked up some incredible kids and Parish has gone from ordinary player to superstar ball magnet. After all the doom and gloom about Daniher they have moved on and done better. If they had not dropped that game against Hawthorn in Round 1 they would be in the top 8 or so.

We have 2 midfielders who were taken in the first round in each of the 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and the 2019 drafts on our list.
Using one pick on Saad isn’t the problem imo.

lol what an odd thing to say, I don't care if they have to helicopter in my clubs coach to the coaches box as long as he wins games/flags for the club.

When you are talking to players about sacrifice, don't drink and party and look after yourself etc, it is pretty hard to take it seriously from a guy who weighs probably 140-150kg.
