We are going to need to replace Jones at CHB some time, while some of us are hoping Marchbank may one day get fit and be that player, is there a chance with the SPS trade we could get Brander out of WCE for that job? I haven't seen enough of him to tell whether he could do that role but the potential looks to be there. Could he be good enough? He's OOC. The issue is we need to get Cerra so pick 6 is gone. Would pick 25 and SPS get it done? Perhaps with 36 and Brander coming to us?
My understanding over here is Brander wants to play CHB but can’t get a look in when McGovern and Barrass are fit so Simmo plays him on the wing.
It’s an insight into the malaise West Coaat have got themselves into offering forever contracts to McGovern, Gaff et al that they are offloading Brander so we need yo pounce because he fits our needs perfectly.
One poster suggested a straight swap for Samo which I think would be a great idea albeit trades don’t usually get done like that.

Does anyone get nervous that our list strategy might be centred around Cripps. Given his 20/21 campaigns and form, his current contract is way overs. If you go his 18/19 years it is unders.

But thinking back to SoS who I‘m a big fan of, the Dow pick seems a logical pick more than anything else to partner Cripps lack of speed. Everything at that time screamed Dow due to Cripps being the mainstay midfielder.

Fast forward to now and everyone is talking about Hewett who I don’t mind as a footballer one way or the other. Not that excited about him but everyone is going on about his defensive running abilities and tackling. The defensive running capabilities along with midfield area minutes smacks of covering for Cripps who can’t catch a snail on defensive transition.

if Carlton have players trying to cover a weak transition midfield if just won’t work. If a player like Hewett tracks after Cripps man, then the opposition will just flick the ball to Hewlett’s direct opponent…say on the wing if he players there.

Given the contract they gave Cripps. the 6 years bit, I’m concerned. Right now, he is poor on offence with rushed kicks and he is horrendous on defensive running. But we may be trying to build a side around him when it should be….find your 30+ possessions and a goal or we go with other midfielders. Carlton need to be agile in their thinking as things have changed a lot for Cripps since 2018.

Vossy will train him to run back . Sand

I hope he stays too

I know all clubs will have injuries and with the possible inclusions of Cerra an Hewett(who could play back), it would be difficult to allow these types to play in the middle, even considering likely delistings

So let's do the exercise( am sure everyone will have variations

Plow Weitering Williams
Doc Jones Saad

Walsh Cripps Hewett
TDK Cerra Dow

SPS Charlie JSos
Fisher Harry Martin

Newman, Stocker, Ed, LOB

Spare Backs - Willo, Marchbank, Kemp (Utility)
Spare Mids/Forwards - Kennedy, Setters, Newnes, Gibbons, Cuners, Fog, Ramsay, Philp, Cotts, Carroll
Forwards - Honey, Gov, Owies,

Players bolded, you could easily make a case for many of these guys playing ahead of SPS, and even though Voss sees him ahead of all these guys, I doubt he would be seen as a starting mid/onballer
I guess I'm all in on Hewitt & Cerra as long as we can address our deficiencies elsewhere.
Without putting too much thought into it, and looking into who is available I think;

If we can keep SPS and cut Setters, Newnes, Gibbons
we get in Talia, Brander & Ladhams (not sure about the latter 2 but they address a need), then we have addressed our deficiencies without losing any depth in the midfield.

The other player I would like us to take a look at to rookie list is Matthew Ling. Has skills but through injury cannot get on the park.
If he can get his body right, we could definitley use his speed and Foot-skills.

Why?

SPS is out of contract, wants out of Carlton, and wants to head to West Coast.

Simpson did nothing wrong.

I disagree. Voss said yesterday that he would speak to SPS about staying. It’s inappropriate.
Clubs should not speak about players still tied to other clubs.
Gold Coast aren’t talking about Chol.
North about the Richmond bloke.

Stoppage numbers down cripps disposals are down -- he needs to re invent or we need a way to structure around him so he draws a two on one again .. or we turn him into a CHB

With the appointment of Voss and the improvement of Wines over the past year, I am excited to see what Voss can do with Stocker and hopefully seeing him play in the middle which is where he was recruited to play. I am going to assume that Voss would love Stockers physicallity!

Leave Stocker in the backline. He's doing really well down there.

Kemp is the one we should be looking to develop into a full time onballer. Can move through traffic nicely and in his draft video he said himself that's where he saw himself playing long term.

If only it was that easy.

If SPS is on $400K, how many of our other borderline best 22 players are in this pay bracket?
Cerra was quoted around the $700K - $750K bracket; so a fair bit more than $200K extra

Whilst I would love to add Cerra to our list.
I just can't see how we can fit Cerra in, especially with forking out $$$ for Hewett - and have enough money in reserve for big up coming Walsh contract
It's just not prudent salary cap management
Murph, Eddie and Levi retire. Sps leaves. In the imaginary world where we have a guess at salaries there is $1.3 mill. Jack Martin was heavily front ended and may get $300k less.

Of that $1.6 mill, cerra gets $750k, Hewitt $450k and Sam Walsh $400k extra from next year.

Clearly it's not as simple as that and there are a lot more movable parts. However if we believe that with Cerra and Hewitt on board that we improve enough to be a genuine threat (probably finals 2022 and competition 2023) then we can find a salary cap way to do it.

He doesn't need to re-invent. Just needs to have a good run with injury.

Some nervous nellies on here would have been looking to trade Ollie Wines if they were at Port in the last couple of years.

Class is class. Crippa is class. Watch how we set up under Voss and see how Cripps flourishes under Voss .

I'm not nervous at all -- with the structures we had and stoppage rates dropping it affected his game more so than injuries -
I have said it before locking him in for 6 years is a cheap deal ..
the CHB bit was a joke ..
don't forget he was on one leg in 2018-2019 strapped up like a mummy

Really just needs to fix his goal kicking in the off-season if kicks a couple of goals a game floating forward it lifts the team

So with our need for a ruckman, any chance we could bring in Ladhams? The link with Vossy and apparently on the trade table.
I personally would be interested in Powell Pepper too .. got some mongrel about him, young and would add to our midfield depth

Sam Hayes is the other one. Been dominating sanfl but can't get a look in ahead of Lycett and Ladhams.

Arrow did you see my post from the other thread Bailey Williams and pick 9 for pick 6.
Do you think this is plausible, would really like to hear your thoughts on trade scenarios like this one

Always liked Williams and while he has been slow to come on, but I still rate him

WC might be willing to do that deal, as they are keen on Matthew Johnson and I also rate him top 8

If Voss came out and said he would try to convince him to stay, it’s all the more reason Simpson should come out and talk about him and make him feel wanted by WC. I don’t like him talking about SPS because I want him to stay but if Voss came out and did the same thing about a player who we wanted, I would appreciate it as a supporter.

I like Powell Pepper but trying to bring him over would just be admitting we have given up on Kennedy and Setterfield.
not a big enough upgrade to justify spending anything on bringing him over

Does anyone no where I can find the correct draft points chart?
Looked at four or five of them and they are all different so some help would be much appreciated thanx.
