Is Hardwick a protected species now? Surely the AFL's integrity unit need to have a look at a Head coach knocking up a younger staffer? Aren't there rules and regulations in place for this type of thing?

No. It was a beat up anyway. The crows player he was supposedly having a relationship with is a lesbian.
Knowing how the AFL are worried about there image there is a chance it may happen. If you are one of the big Victorian clubs though they don't tend to bother. Also, I think we are all forgetting to mention former Port premiership HERO in all of this.

Just looked it up on YouTube out of morbid curiosity. 2006 is the year before the Geelong dynasty started. In the last 10 years we'd won 2 flags and a NAB Cup. Geelong had won diddly squat in 43 years. Understandably the commentary was very focused on if perennial losers and basket case Geelong would suffer heart break again against a powerhouse side and lose another Grand Final (preseason but actually meant something in those days) or finally break the drought.
Both amusing and depressing 15 years later looking back at what the 2 clubs achieved since then.

I think the principle is to protect a worker from being taken advantage of due to a power imbalance. If she reports along a different line and they're satisfied he's not imposing undue influence, then it should be signed off on. In Hardwick's case he's not just using her for a bit of fun, he's left his wife.

Interestingly Hardwick’s wife and kids weren’t in the Qld hub at all and they stayed back in Melbourne for the whole 4/5 months. Obviously the catalyst for the separation.
