My school had two commercial kitchens for home ec(onomics). In year 10, boys were allowed to cook and girls were allowed to do woodwork for the first time ever. We had two fellas that took it up and did they ever get razzed. Turned out, both became top class chefs! My kid didn’t get taught cooking at school, which really surprised me... so I bought him cooking lessons at a Jamie Oliver cooking school and we did it together for 7 weeks when he was 14. He loved it And it certainly broadened his palate.I was.
We had a weekly class where we would cook a 4 course meal for each Wednesday lunch for teachers & also we enjoyed the spoils. At the end of the term, we spent our profits to go out to a quality restaraunt like Rigonis.
I learnt to appreciate making great food of all different cuisines... & still love cooking today, but now I use more alcohol![]()
