Collingwood are impacted in no way by allowing this . I also can’t believe that the AFL took so long to tell port. Non Victorian clubs are treated as second class citizens. I appreciate my view is unlikely to be popular with others here though.

It's like the time time they tried to dictate to Gold Coast what guernsey they'd wear for the first China game, despite it being a Gold Coast home game.

It’s got nothing to do with Vic Clubs v the rest. If the Tassie Teams wants to be the Tassie Crows and wear Red Blue and Yellow hoops I expect the AFL will act in a similar matter

Like it or not, the VFL clubs are the original foundation AFL clubs. Clubs like us that join their league can do what we like so long as it doesn’t impinge on their original standing in the league.

Collingwood are the black and white stripes team.

But things change. When they entered the AFL there was an agreement all AFL games in SA would be played at Footy Park.

There also was less variety in jumpers worn by each club when they joined. Clash jumpers not a thing.






Port are not asking for a permanent change. They have even killed off the Magpie as a club mascot/logo.

Just a chance to wear the PB twice a year.


I see no issue giving them that, and that only.

For a club that is desperate to recognise their 'heritage', don't you think it is odd that they would completely wipe Port Magpies from the world?

As always, Port are a club that want to have their cake and eat it as well.

They want everyone to bow to whatever whim hits them at the time because 'it's our right'. Then when they go completely the opposite direction a few years later, everyone is expected to bow down again.

Maybe they should decide once and for all if they are Port Power AFL club or Port Magpies - the AFL franchise before they start making demands.

I actually think they should go to 18 minute quarters. The quarters are too long right now.

I don’t get this whole longer qtr thing. Surely they are still playing the same live game time as previous. The extra time is due to time on (after goals, lining up for goals), they are still only chasing the footy for the same time as normal?

I don't think it is heritage. You are right, if they cared about heritage the Magpies would still be used in SANFL. Unless the AFL said no.

They want to cash in again. And for a club so bad financially that helps them.


I would rather they earn some coin with this jumper than get more in their mooching sack at AFL House.


KT and Kochie have built them a mountain of debt chasing dragons and opening fortune cookies. This helps, even if just a little. And is not AFL funds.

So how come Eddie and Collingwood cop crap for defending their VFL history even though this port guernsey was SANFL ?

I think the real issue is Koch is picking a fight he knows he can't win so he can rile up their supporter base and look like the world's against them. Fos Williams would be rolling in his grave seeing that club on its knees, begging for the right to use that guernsey as nothing more than a merch opportunity.

The money is actually not a significant amount. At it's highest it earnt them $200k. They won't sell that many every year.

This is more about Port rallying their supporters around another 'poor me, everyone is against us' topic. And it works. Their supporters genuinely think the big bad wolf is against them.

Bottom line is Port have known the rule for their colours and guernseys since their franchise started. It's not like this is a new rule. They accepted those initial rules and now want to re-write them whenever it suits them. When they don't get to do that, they cry and complain and think the world is against them.

Is Kochie right about the VFL-centric way things are done? 100% he is. But they really don't have a leg to stand on in this particular case.

If we are talking about the 2007 contract would it be fair to suggest the contract is rescinded once Heritage Round stops?

The contract explicitly states Heritage Round.

Once that ceases, the contract is null. The AFL effectively ending a contract term.


If we are talking about the 2019 one to wear that jumper last year, Koch said there was a caveat for future negotiations.


The AFL also allowed them to wear the jumper for the 2020 Showdown, contrary to the 2007 contract.




Beside all that, why do Collingwood have any involvement in this?


AFL own the IP.



I just don't see how this decision is for the good of the league overall, just Collingwood. The AFL are supposed to protect all 18 clubs. Not just one.
