So did you get the job?
Interview is at 1pm, so currently wasting time by reading a multitude of threads on here, twitter and other playing random games on my phone

also decide i should actually find a pair of shoes to wear that aren't sneakers

What do they need?

Working with children check & police check I'd imagine

LOL what do they need?!?!?!?!

They need you-

- to fill out a questionaire, + watch videos during this
- be available for at LEAST a year.
- wants 1 day week (fair enough) but 1 a fortnight is ok too
- go in for an interview
- then if accepted pay for a police check
- then go in for 4 hour training
- then you get to do some laundry for them. (everyone starts in laundry)

Pretty sure there was 1 or 2 other steps, cant recall them atm.

Smaller community based organisations may be different, but a lot of that sounds standard for larger organisations that have volunteer programs

I know at Legacy, prospective Legatees (volunteers) would have to undertake the following:
- sit down meeting/interview with 2 current Legatees and complete a questionnaire
- provide the names of 3 referees
- complete a police check, either submitting the info themselves or completing the form & paying for the police check prior to being accepted
- complete a working with children's check
- complete induction training which was 1 or 2 days

There was no laundry to be done, but the newbies would be mentored for a period of time before venturing out on their own
Even as volunteers they'd have to pay an annual fee to cover costs

It'll be to do with legislation they'd have to met, insurance requirements and such

Now days it seems to be that one can't necessarily just rock up and volunteer, but instead organisations have their hands tied in terms of the process in hiring/recruiting/acquiring volunteers

I nearly made myself late, 😂

1pm interview was the only thing in my diary for today - so it's not like I was running from one thing to the next, and I thought i was doing a good job of keeping an eye on the time. One minute it's 12pm, the next it's 12:30 and I'm still wearing my trackies

Got myself ready, out the door and only got 3 red lights on my drive - 2 of those once I was in Geelong. Got a park not far from the business and made it with a few minutes to spare

I was meeting with the owner of the business and his current assistant - he was out of the office and running a little late when I arrived, so I had to wait around in the kitchen for when he returned

It was then a rather conversational type interview, my nerves has settled so I feel like I was calm and clear in my speaking. Most frustrating thing though is that he kept looking at his phone when I was answering his phone questions, plus he's phone kept beeping and at one stage even rang - made it a bit awkward with answering and chatting

And as much as they were advertising for adminstration and office support, they're also looking for someone who wants to work in finance, potentially undertake further learnings/studies and have a career in the industry, and that's not necessarily something which has been in my thinking.

They're interviewing someone else this afternoon, and I'll hear back later tonight as to if I was successful or not - the role is a part-time role, but still 30 hours a week

So now to see what happens

Just received a phone call and asked me to come in tomorrow, and spend time working with the current admin/reception staff member - guessing it's bit of a trail run

So maybe my answer of, "I can't rule out wanting to work in the tourism industry in the future but for now I'm open to all opportunities and will see what happens", didn't see me shoot myself in the foot

That's a very quick response you obviously impressed someone. :thumbsu:
