QLD 50,000 at the state of origin out of the way Sunday night and now announces 3day shut down. Not ******* serious.
There was a group of police who has worked at the SOO Sunday night and we're advised on Monday morning they'd have to go into quarantine/isolation as they'd identified as close contacts of a confirmed case

Taiwan and Iceland I'm pretty sure are counted as handling it the best.
But to be fair they are both islands so its kind of cheating.

I think it's a very important part of any sane analysis.

Every country is different. Geography, location, population density, age, you name it. If you've got a low population island at the end of the Earth (i.e. Australia and New Zealand), you would expect there to be much less mortality than elsewhere. Which there has been. You'd also expect that massively populated regions with not quite the same living standards would be way more adversely affected (i.e. India, Brazil). Which there has been.

There have been mistakes made at both State and Federal level. But also on the whole, it hasn't been the terrifying catastrophe some are desperate to see it as*. Every day now we see hysteria about the vaccine rollout. Even slowly, more people are vaccinated today than yesterday. Almost 30% of the country has had at least one shot now. Perfect? No. But the world isn't collapsing either.

(* - obviously, if you've lost your job, had a family member or friend commit suicide etc. your feelings would be quite rightly very different.)

WA lockdown for 4 days.
Qld or SE QLD also into a lockdown or tighter restrictions I believe

Edit - Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said south-east Queensland, Townsville, Palm Island and Magnetic Island would go into lockdown from 6pm on Tuesday, June 29, to 6pm on Friday.

Don't you think that it hasn't been the catastrophe because of the measures that have been taken? If we'd all just carried on as per normal (which I assume you aren't suggesting?) then we'd have had a worstening of what we saw in Victoria before the first lockdown. We would have seen here what we have seen in Europe/USA.

Noone can say what could of would of happened.
But Europe/USA is not possible.
For instance California has a population of 40 million people in a land mass not much bigger than Victoria.
It has poorer health care and borders another country.
Not realistic by any measure.

Okay this is clearly a jab at poor Spazz Cat, who said on the other page of this thread "we're all ****ed and our kids are all ****ed".

Why are you guys being so mean to each other lately? :(

I'm talking relatively. In the major cities. We had 800 deaths in short time last year. What do you think that number would have been if we'd just done sfa? People use the "but we put up with flu deaths each year... blah.. blah.. blah" - any epidemiologist worth their salt would tell you that would be small fry to what would have eventuated if we'd done nothing.

Do you disagree? What's your actual opinion for curiosities sake?

I disagree with Partridge's attacks on you. And your attacks on Partridge. You're both being big ol' meanies and you need to stop. Why can't you just be friends? :(
Ok. So you don't have an opinion. But like to attack opinions that might be unpopular for likes? It is a good way to like farm. Or for.....I don't know.
I don't care BTW, I enjoy all participation. I just don't understand the point.

I'd like to tell you my opinions but sadly you're not allowed to say anything that goes against the grain these days.

As in of course we wouldn't have got the actual numbers that the USA and UK got. But relatively, we would have seen something similar. Melbourne and Sydney are big cities now even by world standards. They would have been smashed by Covid if the lockdowns hadn't occurred.
So relatively California with 60,000 deaths we would of had 9000.
Not remotely realistic considering population density and health care systems borders.
But mathematically we could say that.
But we could say about 80% of people that died here were in aged care, 46,000 Victorians are in aged care do you think it would be realistic after lets just say 2000 lol died noone would take any measures in the aged care system?
Would that really happen?
Then you've got to consider that California actually had lockdowns?
Dunno. Someone's just going to have to make up a number.
