As George Costanza said ‘I have hand’. We are completely in charge of this and it will depend on us what we do or get out of it.

Are you suggesting that we are finally getting our goal-kicking small forward, who will be thrown into the trade as steak knives?

Costanza isn't getting any younger & I think his best days were the Tiges premiership years that are now behind him!

When the free agency period kicks off on Friday, Carlton will secure Sydney’s George Hewett in the first list management coup of Michael Voss’s tenure.

Sounds damn impressive..

The Swans have no plans to match the Hewett deal

..landing a player the other club weren't trying to keep.

You can’t burn the bridge as one day it will come back to bite you BUT we are not going to pay overs

I think this trade burning bridge thing is fallacy.

Dodoro is universally considered the biggest trading prick in the game. Yet he gets multiple deals done every year.

Burn the bridges. Hell, burn the boats too.

Act completely in our own best interests. When we offer something other clubs want in the future, they'll quickly forget about the bad blood.

Other clubs are very quick to put us to the sword.

Absolutely, in our case it's not even being Dodoro level prick status, it's just using the levers which are in front of us.

The best outcome for the Roos is Tarrant as FA and CCJ to PSD. If we aren't using this as the baseline then we are kidding ourselves and not serious about doing what it takes to get our best possible team.

Dodo uses the media to talk up his trade requirements.
I don't think we have enough media sycophant's to work it that way.
Silence is golden. Makes for bigger surprises.

Richmond didn't think twice about tabling an offer to the vice-captain of the bottom club.

If we did it to them and reversed our recent histories, I reckon the AFL media would've reported it to the UN and Amnesty International.

Last year Melbourne dragged out the Brown deal to the point we took the deal they wanted us to take.

We are the Melbourne in this deal. CCJ wants out to us and is OOC. As you say we have a clear avenue for acquiring him for free.

There is no 'good faith' especially with them getting into Tarrant in the same trade period.

Agree I'm not suggesting we change our media approach. Just that this notion that we're part of one big cooperative is complete wank. Within reason obviously, you try to broker a decent trade first but you don't roll over in some misguided idea of fair play either.

We could take CCJ via the PSD yet next year if we put our 1st rounder up for grabs Richmond will instantly forget that and still ring our phone off the hook.

They are swapping a 22 year old for a 32 year old. Richmond are idiots.
I think it helps our list build.
Makes us work on a young KPD sooner rather than waiting for taz to reitre.

What do we think will be the first trade of the year?
Rory Atkins got done pretty quickly but I don't think well get the same situation.
George Hewitt to Carlton maybe?

Aaron Edwards was our last trade.
I doubt we trade again for a few years.
By that time both clubs could have different people negotiating.
The notion that we are at a future disadvantage by playing hardball is nonsense.
Adelaide bid on every Father Son in sight. Every year. They walked Hately to the PSD last year.
Didnt stop Dawson choosing them.

Radical plan by SOS. Clearly doesn't read bf. says Carlton can play hard ball and walk away from negotiations and pick up cerra in psd! They fail to realise that there are what 5 clubs before them and no way would cerra get past all.... both ourselves and hawthorn spoke to him. And we both have bigger pockets. Both this and Dawson be interesting to see pan out.... need to trade for ccj 38 or higher if can... need to keep that psd option open for any others that fall.... even lipinski. You would have thought dogs will play hard there considering how they got leftover with some of treloar wage

They can keep him, he's a cat

We are very quiet and tight lipped which is great but Rawlings hasnt been all that tough with negotiations from what Has been reported one year deals moved to two years.

Ben Brown trade was pathetic lucky the pies where super desperate so we salvaged stepho with the trade.

I’ll be judging the trading team on this CCJ deal it should be a straight swap for Tarrant and 69 max.

We are preserving there free agent compo so that is worth something in its self. 38 and Tarrant is way overs considering where we are negotiating from.

100% agree. We've been tough with our own players, no evidence of pushing other clubs into our orbit yet.
