Salary dump approach again? Thinking he wouldn't be on much though... But you never know.

Sounds like they want to keep him but he is pushing for a move. Wouldn’t be a salary dump.

They’d want a decent return too, with no future 2nd I don’t really see a way of getting him in if we are even interested. Shall see how it plays out, but don’t see it being us.

Heya, interesting seeing some of the Dawson talk on here.

How would you feel if North selected Dawson in the preseason draft on a 4 year deal (which I think is what Adelaide are offering), assuming Dawson still indicated that Adelaide was his preferred club?

I’m really not sure what I would do in North’s position (I’d probably pass I think to protect team dynamics, depending on how professional I thought Dawson would be about it). Though I know I would love it if North stole Dawson from under Adelaide’s nose, if a fair deal cannot be done.
Absolutely, if he is there in the PSD, North should select him

Need money though to get 700k Lobb back

The melts in this board are embarrassing. I Seriously see better behaviour from my tantrum ridden 3 year old.
He informed Richmond that he wanted to be traded to North, and was out of contract. It was do a deal or lose him for nothing.

Not entirely true. Thats the way the football media have typically reported it because nobody wants to go to North if you listen to them, he didn't want to go anywhere he wants to stay in QLD. And as he is contracted, they can't force him to go. It had nothing to do with North Melbourne.
Why bother? you’ve got more chance of trying to reason with a 3 year old.

They wouldn't need to offer anything! They just walk him to psd where they will have first pick. Simple and they won't look the bad guys as they have offered what pick 23 then pick 17 and now Mel pick which could be anywhere btw 15-18

How? They are trading for #1 pick in ND. We still hold #1 pick in PSD.

Cooked the pick 19 with GC, gave up a 2nd rounder for CCJ, even downgraded 40 to 42....

Lost currency in 2 out of 3 pick swaps.

Got little value for Brown.

No sweetheart AFL priority or FA deals, could not land a "big fish" for years....

lack of development meant little on offer to trade out when rebuilding.

...These are the reasons we needed to LOSE games and get the most obvious pick in JHF to walk through the doors.

Doing it the hard way, all the time, makes it tough to leap frog other lists in overall net talent, game plan and cohesion aside.

I assumed the first pick psd was attached to the nd 1st. Ok makes the offer slightly better then.... as if that's the case if we accept then we block any further crow trade for Dawson... we take him in psd.... plus have a 4th, and three first next... I'd want to see if we can get back into top 5 with ours and ade 22 before accepting. Also no 2nd goes back

A Callaghan gibcus one other top 10 maybe the small rachele plus Dawson and ccj.... is pretty impressive.... but so would be JHF ccj and Dawson

The nerve of Adelaide trying to walk a second player in 2 years to the PSD.
They didn't even finish bottom this year.
I personally hope we select Dawson.
Just so the the crom get the message.
Eventually someone is going to call there bluff.
I hope its us. Dawson would fit us perfectly.

Moan, moan, moan day two. Honestly, you can see the cohesive plan and what they're trying to do. We don't have the draw cards of other clubs. The playing field is not equal, deal with it.

The fact is this - it is a long, long, long list build. We're sitting here, talking ourselves into frenzies about short cuts. We are probably not playing finals until 2023 or maybe 2024.

If it falls over and goes to shit, fair to critique and I'll be with you. But next year's second rounder is not the end of the world. Honestly, some real Essendon and Carltonesque petulant posting here the last 24 hours.

I'm sure if we landed Dawson and Hill somehow, there would be people here complaining about how we should have used the PSD on another player, or not traded for Hill. I'm sure CJ will have five bad games as he is finding his feet, and everyone here will go bananas.

Paitence.

Interesting the amount of people trashing on Bobby Hill, we don’t even know if we’re in for him but he’s a 21 year old small forward who is fast and can mark overhead, the other parts of his game will continue to develop. If he’s not too expensive picks wise then it’d be a good pick up. Not a massive amount of small forwards in the draft and Stengle probably off to Geelong. That all being said, Hill just screams an * move.

Bobby Hill...yuck.

Scrapping the barrel there. Barely tackles or pressures. Even for a small forward he barely gets his hands on the footy.

As someone said...nearly man. Rather we put time into spicer and recruit another small in the draft than overpaying for someone GWS are probably happy to get off their books.

People defending him will say the lack of goals is because he plays up the ground. How do you explain the lack of possessions or tackles?

They will say they at least tried ie offered a pick 17 and then Mel 22 which could be better same or worse! But still a first for a breakout player... but yes we have to grab him if there. And then all the melters out there who thought ccj should be taken might calm their farms abit!

Yep, * mentioned here...

Is it possible we pay part of Lobbs salary to take Hill? Is that even allowed? GWS then might let him go to us for a lesser pick. Tigers future 4th... ha.

Can't pay any of lobbs but would take Bobby's off them and he'll maybe someone else if needed, prob not cogs though!

Gws were in process of trying to extend beyond 22 which they wouldn't be doing if they were happy getting him off their books

2 different drafts.

I know they are two diff drafts just assumed picks were attached but once I think about it I knew Coll were still second to go in the psd even though traded out in the nd. All good

Turn it up on the first point. Not much you can do if a player doesn't want to move.

NORTH MELBOURNE

In:
Callum Coleman-Jones (Richmond), Pick 42 (Richmond), Pick 47 (Richmond), future fourth-round pick (Richmond)

Out: Robbie Tarrant (Richmond), Pick 40 (Richmond), future second-round pick (Richmond)

Current 2021 draft picks: 1, 20, 42, 47, 72, 77

Nick Dal Santo says: I like what they‘ve done. Coleman-Jones, you speak about him being a big loss for the Tigers in regards to a young man that has done it on the big stage. I like what they’re doing, they’ve got a lot of talent. Keep (Todd) Goldstein there, keep (Ben) Cunnington there, you’ve got a lot to build with, you’ve got Ben McKay in the back half as well. I like what they’re doing.

Foxfooty.com.au says: Durable defender Robbie Tarrant departs for one last crack at a flag with Richmond, and Coleman-Jones looks like a really good pick-up. The 22-year-old showed a lot of promise as a forward this year with Richmond, kicking 11 goals from eight games, including an impressive bag of four in round 11 against Adelaide – just the second game of his career. The Kangaroos will hope he can provide not only much-needed support for the emerging Nick Larkey in attack, but be able to give a chop-out in the ruck for Todd Goldstein (despite how much he loves riding solo in that position). North has also reportedly rejected an audacious offer for its No. 1 pick from Adelaide, which would’ve seen the Crows part ways with three-first round picks. And when you see highlights of Jason Horne-Francis, you’ll understand why the Roos are hanging onto the first selection.

FWIW, I reckon on the CJ trade you guys did alright. What will determine if it is a good trade or not is whether he turns into a player for North. The price you paid is not extravagant (draft picks are overrated), so if you get a best 22 player, that’s a win.

Rejecting the 3 first round picks for pick 1 on the other hand, that’s a big call… is the sense that you guys have a good young core and you want elite talent to top it off, or do you still need to develop a solid core?

Re pick 1, I’d say there are two factors at play. One is that Horne is clearly the best player in this draft and elite talent of that type is extremely hard to find. And two, have we taken the Adelaide offer, the pressure on the club would be enormous to pick the right players with those picks. The club chose to err on the safe side. Not to mention supporter backlash it would have generated

Horne showing he is an elite big game/finals player
vs just elite.
Is what would have swayed us I think.
Its like the difference between say a Pendles vs Dusty.
Both excellent. But one can lift there game when needed.
