Nobody is considering the biggest hit we're taking with Tarrant going.

With Robbie, Majak and Higgins all leaving in the last 12 months our 2022 calendar sales could be left in tatters.

You can't expect Jy, LDU and Cunners (hey we need to cater to the rural markets too) to do all the heavy lifting when it comes to striking a pose.

The club needs to ditch the data driven approach to recruiting and start requesting draftees to submit professional portfolios.

He’s not a key defender he’s essentially Bonar without speed

we’d be better off with a Sam Skinner, Blake Schlensog etc from state leagues

Not sh*tting on the captain purely making a point to not read too much into those stats when he is taking majority of the kick ins and also plenty of chips across the defensive 50. He had a good year no doubt about it

He was 10th in the comp for total marks and 13th for average marks (Hall was 10th) in his first year playing as a defender. He was also third in the comp for average and total kicks (Hall was 2nd and 5th as well.) Although we had more behinds scored against us than anyone else.

But his marking was far from shithouse.

As far as his contract goes, I wouldn't object to the club gifting him a second year instead of just one year. Not only did he play a great season of footy, someone like Aaron Hall will play for longer than Jack because Jack sacrificed his body playing for us and he may well have got another year out of himself if he hadn't been so gung ho. If Boomer had been as courageous in the contest would he have played till 38?

Maybe skinner but not enthused about any of those options

It will be interesting to see how Skinner goes in the prelim and the GF, if they get that far. He was a major reason the Panthers won on the weekend and if he repeats that performance on Friday they will probably play finals. If he makes it to the GF and plays another great game then its worth giving him a call for sure.

We may have said "come back when you've worked on this and this" to Skinner at the start of the year and maybe he went away and took that stuff on, then had a change of role at his club and that work payed off. If so he probably deserves a shot.

Where does it say I think he padded his stats. When you get on a field stats don't come into your mind.... so no jz doesn't consciously do things just to make his stats better. Im saying that defenders that take kick ins will look higher so to bear in mind

Except JZ wasn't asked to play a different role - it was the last part of the ground he hadn't played poorly in and we had to find a spot for him as Captain.

He made a decent fist of it given he was on L plates but he is a not a quality or reliable defender and he is simply not part of the future of our backline if we are serious about progressing up the ladder.

Anyone using the metres gained or possession stats to promote JZ's ability to play in defence does not understand how stats are recorded in the age of kickouts outside the square.

I am not sure why this is such a big deal for mature age supporters - do we want to progress as a team off the bottom of the ladder or do we just want to find places to play certain players?

If we dont get many injuries next year our forwards and mids are stacked.
He may not get a game as a forward.
Larkey, CCJ, CZ, Thomas, JHF and JS are all ahead of him IMO.
He is in a group of players fighting it out for a bench spot.
This year we had JZ, Taz, Hall and Walker as veterans in defence.
If I was him id be asking for a go on HBF.

Yes imo also Ford is fighting for a spot on the bench in our best 22 - BUT - he is leading that pack (which includes Curtis and Mahoney) atm because of how good he looked in those last few games.

He is a point of difference in the forward half - he wont be going to the back half - he is a natural forward that could move into the mids for times during the game.
