I have no issues with Ziebell being around in 2023.

It's similar to Melbourne having Nathan Jones around this year, it's done them no harm.
Yes but Jones stood aside from the captaincy - JZ would need to do the same but I see no sign of that happening.

If you are captain, you play, and that outcome is not going to be doing this rebuild any favours at all in 2023.

Tom Morris on CCJ, North will need to do better than pick 20.
Then a text come through ‘North could walk him to the Pre season draft , hmmm yeah they could.
Do you homework Tom
Classic stuff - reporters just putting their own (misinformed) views forward as itk and getting immediately called out by the public.

Yes they will.

I think that proposed trade is too much in our favour.
They say clubs don't like to sour relationships, but we really hold the whip hand here. A trade of Robbie for CCJ straight up as saves them losing FA compo.

We don't need to add any more sugar than that or take it to the PSD. If they decide not to take that deal, no worries for us PSD it is.

We're actually doing them a favour by agreeing to trade rather than let Robbie walk via FA. Is it fair overall? Probably not, but none of the club's are in the business of fairness.

Ziebell offers more than just his current position in the side, he offers leadership and he can pay almost anywhere on the ground now. If all he offers is a wise head and ability to stop gaps in 2o23 then that’s still a good outcome.

I reckon he will still be playing in 2o24. I don’t love him as a defender but he’s a long way inside our best 22 and will be I reckon until he decides to retire.

Assume we are bidding against throwing the kids too much to the wolves. For me, Taz going tilts the scales in favour of making sure Jack stays.
Ridiculous comment ....throwing kids to the wolves....we have the oldest backline in the competition and our 'best 22' is still older than Melbourne and the Dogs this week - even with Taz out.

imo I would have kept it at 1 year, if he has a good 2022 then maybe get another year. He has probably been on a good wicket since he was drafted.

I had no problem with Tarrant being offered just one year as well. If he isn't happy with that and wants to go then thanks for your services.

Ziebell on two is disappointing for mine.
Very disappointing if it's a straight 2 years without significant triggers. Looks like we caved and Brady's reputation was that he would never do that so it would be more likely that he has been overruled here.

If we are going to go anywhere with this rebuild we have to start playing some kids down back - give them a chance to blend as a team within a team.

With BMac, Hall, Corr and LMac as the key 4 main defenders they don't need another veteran playing out his days back there.

So you think Ziebell will still be Captain in 2023?
Don't know but I see no sign of him willingly giving it up which is what other captains like Jones and Wood have done (ironically both teams in the GF this week.)

I would take the captaincy off JZ now and start promoting Jy but given they are giving JZ 2 years I am sure he will retain the captaincy.

I usually agree with Kingy, but not this time. We can find space to play both Goldstein and develop CCJ as future #1 in the same team.

Goldstein isn't getting any younger, he's going to need a rest up forward here and there. This is when CCJ gets his chance. They can rotate in the ruck spot and the forward line.

But I want Goldy to retire as a Kangaroo.

Goldy is a Roos immortal to me

That’s a lot of guessing

I understand the increased need to bring back Ziebell given Tarrant’s departure and I completely agree with the logic in now offering two years.

But unless there’s a team making a pitch for him I don’t see why we’d increase the offer. I doubt he’d retire out of spite or try his luck in the draft over the extra year.
No one, it’s a negotiation. Two years is fine

A few people have made this point and while I’m not against offering Ziebell two years, I’m certainly wondering what leverage he has.

If we were to stand firm at one year do we realistically think that Ziebell would sign elsewhere?

If it takes 2 years to retain Jack I am a firm "yes" vote. We've cut the experience comprehensively over 2 years and that might be the right approach. But taking out the captain now would be a bridge too far imo.

We need to retain some structure and familiarity amongst the playing group to help the youngsters emerge now. Jack is a top notch leader from that regard. I'd be entertaining 2 years (in light of the Tarrant departure) even if he'd had a worse year on the field. The fact he held his own in defence is a bonus.

If we're about to transition to Jy or Luke as the main man it would be infinitely better to have Jack there for support.
I’d say (hope) most of us are with you

I’d be amazed if Ziebell is captain in 2023
