Geelong tall Nathan Kreuger has told the Cats he wants to explore other opportunities during this year’s trade period with Collingwood expected to be his preferred destination.

Recruited from South Australia as a pre-selected state league player after Geelong traded pick 42 to Carlton at the end of 2018, he made his debut for the Cats in round 20 this season, playing as a key defender against North Melbourne and the Giants.

He had interest from the Magpies at the end of last season but decided to remain with Geelong in an attempt to force his way into their star-studded line up but was unable to do so as they progressed through to their third consecutive preliminary final.

Jordan Dawson nominated the crows, so maybe a chance for dumont at port?

So moving forward where are the holes in the list?

Remove the senior crew - Jed, JZ, Cunners, Polec, Dumont, Atley, Walker, Goldy, Turner, Hall, TC.
We look like this!

F: JHF,. Larkey,. CCJ/Edwards
HF:. CZ,. Comben,. Taylor
C:. Thomas. Simpkin. Stevenson
R:. CCJ/Edwards. LDU. Powell
HB: Bonar. Young. McDonald
B:. Hayden. McKay. Corr

Int: Phillips, Mahony, Scott, Ford
Emg: Lazzaro, Perez, ATU, Spicer, Xerri

Not in bad condition IMO.
Don't see the need for a small forward others do (JHF, Mahony, Ford, Spicer, Thomas, Stevenson) can fill that role. For mine it's the tall defender and small defender slots that need some correcting/depth.

Tall Options: JVR at 20, Skinner, Weideman, Talia
Need a small lockdown defender, rebound HBF ....... ? (Bonar, Hayden, Perez, Atu, Young) not sold on yet.

Do like the potential for this list build !!!!!!!!!!!
Turner is 25.

What is this?

Logan's Run?

I understand the increased need to bring back Ziebell given Tarrant’s departure and I completely agree with the logic in now offering two years.

But unless there’s a team making a pitch for him I don’t see why we’d increase the offer. I doubt he’d retire out of spite or try his luck in the draft over the extra year.

A few people have made this point and while I’m not against offering Ziebell two years, I’m certainly wondering what leverage he has.

If we were to stand firm at one year do we realistically think that Ziebell would sign elsewhere?
Forgive me if this has already been discussed, I’m half way through scrolling the past 6 pages that I’ve missed.

Ziebell & Taz have the same manager don’t they? Do you think it was more of a threat from management since Taz just left? Sounds like the majority of the time 95% of the wheeling & dealing is done between the club & their management, not the actual player.

What do you reckon wouldbe enough to make it work? Taz and 38 for CCJ and future 3rd (if they want Taz for another shot at a flag they'd be valuing their future 3rd at somewhere in the 50's) or is it going to be Taz and 38 for CCJ and 80.
How about Taz and 80 for CCJ.

I think the club has taken the approach here that losing your Captain on top of Tarrant might be a PR disaster. I could only imagine if they are trying to pitch to players to join our club, this would also be a bad look.

I think at the end of the day they took the risk averse approach and gave him the two before another club got involved.

As pointed out earlier, I can see us electing a new Captain either for next year or that year after, so if Zoe bell’s form drops off the cliff big time, he plays reserves

I have an inkling that while it might be 2 years, I think it would be more about security than $. So the contract might be based on a basic salary with KPI triggers.
Man, it makes me feel old thinking about Ziebell being recruited as a potential ‘future captain’ & now he’s winding up.

Is that worth a million bucks? I wonder how much every player would willingly sacrifice for that opportunity.
I’m sure a lot of them would sacrifice a large chunk of their salary to have the ultimate glory. What that number is, would come down to the individual and their drive to achieve a premiership?

Let’s not get too far ahead here. Melbourne haven’t won anything until they beat the Bulldogs on Saturday.

As harsh as it sounds, other than experiencing a Grand Final, losing is no better than finishing last.

No way would sps and 6 do it
Why not? Cerra is a pick 6 playing like a pick 6. Worth more than a current pick 6 because theres less risk of him not turning out and he's more ready to go. Would have thought SPS accounts for the added value in development and has upside.

Obviously, it's hard to say without being directly in that situation, but for me at least I'd rather 500k a year and a flag for, say, 3 years than 750k a year for 5 years.

SPS wants to go to West Coast. I can't see him being worth a first-rounder so WC's next two picks are 29 and 35. Carlton has 25.

Does 6 & 25 get Cerra done?

No way , the pick does slip to pick 8 . The player has proven that he is a worthy pick 6. Even if it didn’t drift to pick 8 you risk the replacement being less than the original. SPS adds no value here hasn’t performed , how long do you give upside? I think the ship has sailed on SPS as a first round talent. It’s a stretch to suggest he projects as a player to have an average second rounder type career.

so an effective 2 pick down grade (ie cerra to pick 8) of a proven player for a hope that he ends up having a second rounder type career is pretty unsatisfactory return on a good valueable talent

It would be disappointing
