If he agrees to go to another club.
You just take them to the table if the compensation isn’t what you want.

for example. Ports first is currently 15. Roughly 17 after Daicos and Darcy.

surely we ain't in crouch territory here. crouch and Adelaide were toxic. he clearly just wanted to get the **** out of there and leave the state.

billings appears to be ok with staying, in fact some reports state his preference is to stay. so in theory we could match and call the other clubs bluff in not wanting to trade for him, especially if there's more than one victorian club open to having him.

It’s going to be all about the $$$. It has been this entire time.

he isn’t worth the 700-750k he got last time. The question was whether he would accept what we thought he was worth vs the over inflated contract he might get at another club to move.

it’s an entirely different scenario to crouch.

What would that even look like? Something like…

- Top five per cent = 900+

- Top 15 per cent = 750+

- Top 30 per cent = 600+

- Top 50 per cent = 450+

- Top 70 per cent = 350+
Based on a rounded 720 players in the comp, that is equivalent to:

- Top five per cent = 36 players

- Top 15 per cent = 108 players

- Top 30 per cent = 216 players

- Top 50 per cent = 360 players

- Top 70 per cent = 504 players

It doesn’t work.
The average salary is $330k roughly. Median would be something else.

My guess:

- Top five per cent = 800+

- Top 15 per cent = 650+

- Top 30 per cent = 550+

- Top 50 per cent = 350+

- Top 70 per cent = 250+

Then it gets down to what is a reasonable salary, for him and us.

At $550k, he might stay.
Which is fine given cost versus output.

That mightn’t be enough for him.

Maybe $650k is his minimum.
Which is also fine as that is around end of first.

for jack its also worth considering the downside of going to a new club on big bucks. Expectations are high and the supporter base and footy world can turn on you if you are perceived to be under performing.

More like hehe giants.

1million × 8 for a bloke who's ankles are now held together with sticky tape!
Kelly and Coniglio on long million dollar contracts - their list is going to be ripe for the picking for years to come.

Sam Taylor is one player on their list I'd be targeting.
Except he is contracted and if he goes anywhere it would be back to SA im guessing
I made a Bo Bo , is is a WA lad

The way they dealt the Jack Martin trade , they would not let him go so he went into the open market and luckily for Carlton no one was willing to pay what Carlton was offering 700k , that might be a bit different with Ben King because a few clubs would offer good money for him and it has to be remembered Martin was not contracted.
I think this is a different negotiation. Bing would be coming home for one reason - to play for the Saints along side Max. Money won't drive the decision. GC compensation is the unknown factor.

Dont forget the big long-term Whitfield, Haynes and Greene contracts too.

With the Kelly news, I think we are all in agreement that GWS are going to have to lose something. Some garbage that is OOC, but looking through the names, the ones of interest might be:

OOC 2021: Hopper, Riccardi, Briggs, Green, Flynn, Ward
OOC 2022: Perryman, Cumming, Taylor, Taranto, O'Halloran

Personally would being having huge crack at Taylor and Flynn. Both suit our demographic and needs really really well. Flynn should be gettable and gives us options post Ryder. Taylor would fill the Carlisle shaped hole we have in defence. Even if we cant get him this year, wont hurt to lay the groundwork for 2022

I know everyone will want Taranto or Hopper. But personally, I would prefer these 2 as they will have less demand, would cost less and / or fill a bigger need

Also wouldn't say no to Ward for a year or 2. People are screaming about the need for leadership. Would help

$400k take it or jog on Jack , not worth anymore than that
Stupid to lowball him imo, he’s worth $500,000 plus incentives anything less is insulting.

If he signs for that great we keep a very good player and any offer that gets him changing clubs will get us the compensation we’re due. Nobody’s going to port for an extra $50,000 a year over three years. Lethlean was meant to be a hard arse, so far he just pays overs and accepts unders.

All we had to do was play a straight bat, it could all be rubbish of course but the grand plans of another early first have clearly gone up in smoke imo.

Have you heard any whispers because if $400,000 is correct we’re having a laugh.

Agree with everything except the Ward bit , How do you know he would bring leadership ? He hasn't done that for the team that had 48,000 first round picks that gets to a GF and the sh1ts the bed like no other team has ever done , we need to stop with this he will bring leadership BS as we wouldn't have a clue

He wasn’t excellent though. To be a key defender you need to be able to defend first and foremost, and for several reasons he can’t do that.
maybe he is a wingman or half forward. he got tried there a bit this year, but be kicked more points than goals, but then again so did lots of others.

Only what I last posted about Billings.

which was we were happy to keep him, on the dollars we offered. Which was significantly less then his current deal.

however I had been told 2 other clubs had been keen at significantly higher money at the time then our offer.

wasn’t told clubs. I had an assumption on one. Which if I was correct - they won’t be keen any longer.

I suspect our offer is 500-550k
