Sharman is great news. Like having a draft recruit. This preseason will be his first in the AFL.
Connelly and Wood deserve it. Gears? Don't know

Good luck to Luke.
Hope his career is long and rewarding.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the FA compensation we receive works out to be an end of second round pick, say #38-#40.
To qualify for that, he needs to be paid in the top 50% of players.
Seeing the average salary is around $330k, acknowledging average is not the same as median, you’d have to think it’s reasonable that he might be getting $350k+.
Relocation interstate etc.
I’d guess that would still be less than what he was earning from us on his last contract…..

But that leads to the next question: say two FA’s from different teams leave and each of the old teams get end of second round compensation.
How do they decide who gets #37 and who gets #38?

I would imagine he would get a base or guaranteed contract of $450K to 500K.

More likely to be band 3 rather than band 4. Second round draft pick. Pick in the 20s.

If Gears could actually get fit then he is worth a spot on minimum wage for a year.

That's a big if though.

Seb Ross is a very interesting one..

He has been a good player over the years for us. For a while he was our best player.

He was clearly really pissed off about his decision to go home for the Cairns game being questioned. He said in a tweet "I've given everything for the club hardly missed a game" etc.

I totally respect his decision to go back to his family but here's the thing...
1. Yeah you've never missed a game but you are paid a LOT of money by the club to play for us. Why act like that's some great thing to hardly miss a game?
2. There is footage of Seb being very soft in his running from multiple games this year, particularly the Essendon game when he literally gave up on running and jogged. This is from the vice captain.

Seb said after the Cairns stuff that "He was hopeful he'd get an exemption to go back for the game". Sorry but no, that is just pie in the sky crap. You had to go home and miss the game, that's fine, but don't lie to us, just own it. You were never getting an exemption to go back, it was not going to happen.

If Seb is cracking it over that Cairns stuff then I think he needs to be reminded that he has been paid 100s of thousands of dollars by this club, and that his performances over the past few years have at many times been average and sometimes very poor. If your feelings got hurt because someone questioned the decision, oh well get over it. His missing that game probably cost us the finals. Now I'm not saying it's his fault or that he should not have missed the game, but I can understand why people questioned it, and I think he should understand it too.

It just makes me wonder if he is the type of player that we need going forward. The woe is me crap is just over the top from one of our highest paid players. If he loves the club he will sign on a deal that is truly worthy of his performance, because he has been getting paid massive overs for at least two years now.

It took until the Thursday that week before QLD approved the game being played in Cairns and after them rejecting us entry the week before, they were all under the impression the game was going to be played in Sydney where Ross would have been able to join the group.

Yep so he gambled, I don't have a problem with him missing the game but just be honest. When he left he was never playing unless they moved it.

Give it a rest. He had 2 very young twins and a toddler and his wife was at home with no support, because of lockdown.

the Adelaide game was a game we should’ve won without him, but we didn’t. Simple. Stop going on about it and stop potting him.

I dont think he was potting him for that wholly, I think he was more potting him for the effort that he has put in at times.
Lewdogs has a young child so would sympathise severely for what Ross was going through, but he is also a highly paid player at the saints and his efforts have not always matched that

I'm not potting him at all I agree with him going back to his family, I just think it's a bit much for that to be something that destroys his relationship with the club or justifies him giving shit effort in games, because it's understandable why people questioned the decision even if I agree with it. And his performance and effort over the last season have been poor while he has been one of our most highly paid players.

Im over caring about what actually happened that week . There were a lot of factors in play. I wasnt happy at the time but the only question now is what value is he going to have going forward whether thats on the trade table or wearing the red white and black for another year. Dont think theres too many kids getting around with ross s number on their back. A bit of a Newnes type.

💯. very good in the pit but once the ball is out of that zone he struggles. We can’t have him and crouch in the same team. Crouch doing the grunt, Steele doing a combo of everything then a player like Kelly/Merrett would be the ideal combination. If Jones could lift his consistency and disposal he can be that player we need. If Gresh could improve his disposal he is the player that could take our midfield to the next level.
Dunstan has no other tricks in that he’s not a good overhead mark, he can’t push forward, he doesn’t get back defensively to intercept, he doesn’t break the lines.
I like him, he tries his guts out and is hard as a cats head but it’s time to move on
Everyone has forgotten our new star , the guy on big money- Hannebery. Wont he take Dunstans place?
