I don't doubt for a second that Bing can play. It's just that we shouldn't pay overs for him, just because he's Max's brother. How many 200cm+ players can you fit into a fwd line anyway?
Cameron and Hawkins: 196cm & 198cm
Naughton and Bruce: 195cm & 198cm
Dixon and Marshall: 200cm & 198cm
Brown and McDonald: 200cm & 194cm
Daniher and Hipwood: 201cm & 203cm

Although they cross the magical 200cm line, the Kings are more mobile than the majority of that group. So, I’d suggest you can fit 2 x 200cm forwards easily. The game, and the players within it, is changed/changing.

The Ben King conundrum fascinates me (which is lucky, as it’ll probably dominate our agenda for the next 12 months at least).

There’s no doubt B King is something special, which means it’ll take something special to secure him. It’ll be the biggest trade St Kilda has been a part of since we farewelled Plugger. I know he’ll be out of contract and he *might* nominate us, but I think it’s still going to be an extraordinarily difficult trade to pull off.

So I’ll ask the question (and I’m genuinely interested to know what everyone’s thoughts are):

What would you prefer we sacrifice in a trade for B King -

- multiple first rounds draft picks
OR
- one of our ‘untradeable’ players (eg - Rowan Marshall)
OR
- the price is too high, thanks but no thanks

For the record, I’m genuinely undecided. I’m desperate for King to come to us, but losing multiple high draft picks is a dangerous game to be playing - you’re mortgaging your future.

Either way, it’s going to be a very, very interesting few months.
Price is too high from either of the options. No way we trade Roma, no way we should give up multiple picks without something else coming back with them.

Moving on, I'm hearing whispers that we are packaging Dunstan & Long for Ollie Wines. Dunstan is a SA boy and the grunt provided from both will make up for the loss of Wines. Hearing many at Port are not happy with his Brownlow speech slagging the club off for not wanting to play for them when they drafted him. Been a bit of bad blood boiling away for a while and it's come to a head. Make of it what you will.
Seriously…??? That is just no chance. But part of me says there has to be some truth for you to run with it George…if we got wines then king next year welllll…all of a sudden things get interesting

Yeah the OP was off the mark.

Ironically we didn’t draft Jack Riewoldt because some thought it would be just because of the name.

I thought I was gonna get another "i rEcKoN yOu sHoUlD hAvE sAiD tHiS iNsTeAd" type of comment so everyone would like it, that'd be the cool thing to do.

But yes, Ben King is on another planet compared to Raph Clarke and Nick Winmar. If Ben was shit that'd be the only way the comparison could be made.

Haha I know one thing, I'm not sharing shit on here this year. Hopefully Damo on trade radio has all the goss

To be fair Jack look only fair until Richmond became a powerhouse.

Remember Junk time Jack.

Also our last namesake, Goddard didn't go so well

None.

But it means naught if you have no one to kick it to them.

Our midfield have no issue getting the ball inside 50… they undoubtedly have an issue with hitting someone wearing a RWB jumper at times though. With a fit group available we’re a top 6 midfield IMO. Obviously behind the Dees & Dogs but coming up fast on Geelong & Port’ ageing midfields.

Yes we need to keep adding to the midfield BUT

We probably only get one shot at getting Bing.

Whether that shot is this year or next is yet to play out. One thing is for sure though…we can’t die wondering.

Ben King thing is simple for mine.

If he and Max were both ruck-forwards or forward-rucks then it would be an absolute no-brainer.

Because they're not, we shouldn't do it.

We'd have to have two other 200cm guys in the side playing first and second ruck, and adding them all up it just wouldn't work.

A bit like Paddy & Roma couldn’t work together that so many on here protested?

We could always offer up Max for Ben [emoji13] and of course a future second...as we ways do.

Had a sneaky thought. Would 9 and next year's first and Battle get Ben King and GC pick 19 or 22 also with a late pick?

I know all the talk is that King isn’t going anywhere until next year? But does anyone think that it might be a bit of smoke?

Surely the Suns have spoken to Ben and been told that he’s leaving at the end of his contract. Plus they already have too many players on their list (currently have 38 contracted plus bringing in Chol. So they need to drop at least four (teams have to draft three this year)

Saints are actively trying to get picks. Anyone think there could be a late push in the trade period to get Bing this year?
Yep
Absolutely

Unless we get massive unders for Bing (which we won't) I don't see why we need him. When will St Kilda realise that the feel-good story of a family connection does not automatically translate into on-field success? (Raph Clarke, Nicholas Winmar, etc, etc)

You can't clone Max King and you don't want to. It's a lazy way to recruit, IMO.
Max King has a clone and they call him Ben.
Same face
Same height
Same size Boots
Both have 8ft long beds
And soon they will be wearing the same coloured clothes.
And Mumma King will be a very happy woman

Moore would be amazing for us. Apparently on 800-850 though.
We could probably afford him and l reckon it's not out of the question.

Moore is facing the prospect of losing his prime years to a rebuild and most players would take premierships over an extra 100-150k.

Collingwood could fix a lot of problems if relieved of his salary.

Having allocated 2x late FRDP for Bing, C-wood would definitely preferre a top 5 pick via FA compo and wouldn't match.
In 2020 the filth took picks 17, 19, 23, 30, 31, 44 and this year they basically get pick 1, so in 3 years they their rebuild intake done and dusted.

Never say never on this one IMHO

Nar, I genuinely believe we aren't planning on him for this year.

Trying to get picks this year makes a lot sense.

We need to add midfield talent to our list before Bing and this year's draft is full of them.

If we can also get a pick before our NGA selections we could end up with a draft haul of 4 top 35 picks which would be great.

We've also got very few 18-21 year olds on our list (less than anyone) so I'd imagine we'd want to fix that.

Are the same people who don’t want Ben King the same who are still upset Josh Bruce was moved on?

Lloyd encouraging the Bombers to make a play for King while conceding that he is very likely to get to the Saints.

That is it in a nutshell.
Why would Essendon pay a huge price for King when they could just build their own? [emoji1745]

They get him for free anyway. He’s an unrestricted free agent.

Yeah from my understanding there is no difference (in the rules) between a delisted free agent and an unrestricted free agent. Matter of fact the term ‘unrestricted’ isn’t even used in the rules. It’s just free agent and restricted free agent. But because Dunstan qualifies as a FA, we get compensation if he leaves.

Max King IS cloned. Its not just a 'family connection' FFS King B is an exceptional player.
Unbelievable [emoji849][emoji849]
Actually this was too harsh. The poster is relatively new and don't want scare him off.

I think he was wrong about Bing but the opinion is fair enough.
I have been calling for years that we want mids and can understand the reasoning.

Just can't get past a Max King x 2 in the team.

For me we have to go this year on Ben.
It kills off the bombers completely because they have no players to trade and no picks in the draft that can match ours.

So let’s get it done with Gold Coast now
Pick 9 and future first and battle for Ben

trade our long for 20ish to dogs and get the academy lads.

Bombers will be left with nothing they can do
