Trade Radio has a lot of time to fill so they speculate and pose hypotheticals and sow seeds that keep people interested.

Owens could be on some clubs top 20 but just as likely they say that to questions posed by the reporter trying to extract some kind of topical news story to discuss on his daily slot.

1. Every clubs top 20 will be different when combined they probably cover 30 - 35 odd players. I suspect that the 15th guy on our list would stll be available at 20 on draft night because other clubs will select players we didn't rate earlier. So maths says even if you had Owens rated 17th on your list the guy you had at 16th is likely still available at 20.

2. I suspect clubs are happy to speculate on Owens going early just to disrupt our planning even if they have no intention of drafting him. (Dodo anyone)

3. If he is selected early it will be a big reach and we may not have matched anyway

As a prospect he projects a lot like Caleb Poulter did last year and he got a lot of hype pre draft because he was a 190cm odd mid then went at 30 odd.

Tank the combine and we are all good

What do you think of XXXXX. "Oh he's a total spud " said no list manager on the media ever.

So they say. "He's a good kid with exciting talent ".
Q: Could he go top 20?
"I can't see why not "

Has Mason Wood got another contract? There's an article saying a "Mason Wood is a part of our AFLW coaching staff"

Is there another Mason Wood? He's supposedly in charge of stregnth and conditioning

Could be both. I believe DunStan was involved with the women’s team last season.

BREAKING NEWS

What was originally reported as being a video showing Melbourne Storm players snorting some white powder has apparently been discovered to in fact show a couple of unnamed St Kilda NGA prospects with the initials MO and MW

Not what his mate said. He reckons we wouldn't pick up the phone. He'd told everyone he was a Saint already.

Sorry, that sounds completely unbelievable (even for us.) Not to mention unprofessional - and we have improved with that.
Would be the best way to get player managers offside.

Having 3 of this top 7 would go alright, given that Marshall would be rucking… not sure how Larkey is beat by Cox and McDonald.

trade radio starting to realise the mess collingwood are in... Moore is gonna attract serious interest
Yep. Was reading last year when they traded Tom Phillips that he was on $550k a year, and that they are still paying some of his contract for this 2021 & the coming 2022 season while he’s at Hawthorn

Wow 😳

moore would fix a lot of problems for us at CHB. mates with sinclair

If he goes at pick 20 can we match?

What about picks which are pushed back because of FS selections? So that mean that really pick 18 becomes 20, and thus we can get him at pick 20 (18)?.

19 is GC.
18 is Brisbane.
17 is Doggies.
16 is Port Adelaide.
15 is Richmond.

For a second I was a worried the Dogs would take our NGA after ******* the system up last year but then I realised they get a father son this year they need to pay for with picks - what an easy ride for them, bastards 🥲
Richmond are the worry there at 15. Might be to early but they do have multiple picks inside the top 30. Could be will to take a risk on someone with a lot of upside. Doggies likely to get those points eaten up there fs. But could also trade it out like they did last year.
wonder if we will actually look at splitting pick 9

I pointed out Clurey worth enquiring about a few weeks ago. Ladhams for obvious reasons... just in regards to Dal's article. Thinking about those two players, and then the Owens issue, just got me thinking. Would we potentially look at trading pick 9 down and splitting it? Might help us bring in some talent as a trade but also give us some picks closer to 18-20 for Owens or someone else we rate down there.

I don't know what the talent pool is like this year but given that pick 9 will probably become pick 11, we aren't at the real pointy end.

I wonder if the Saints can ask for special access to one or two of Owens and Winghager if they go within the top 20? I don't see why we couldn't ask the question, and we'd have a bloody good argument to be given it! Having never benefited from the NGA's we're a chance to be robbed of one with out last chance. To make things worse, the teams between 16-20 are all top 4 sides this season, or Richmond, who've won 3 of the last 5 premierships. We'd hardly be "depriving" a cellar dweller". If the Suns can get a bunch of picks for incompetence, why can't we get this? After the years of development we've put into them we'd only be asking for what was ours as of the end of last year.

I think an under-rated thing to consider also is where to Owens and Windhager want to play? This time last year they were dreaming of a spot at St Kilda. Only a month or so from the draft period they could be deprived of that through no fault of their own. My hope is they interview poorly and present themselves as "go home" risks, considering their connection to the club.

if clubs like Gold Coast can get special concessions like being able to PRE-list their players before the draft even starts surely we can get something like this. https://www.mygc.com.au/gold-coast-suns-lock-in-young-talent-ahead-of-afl-draft/

The Ben King conundrum fascinates me (which is lucky, as it’ll probably dominate our agenda for the next 12 months at least).

There’s no doubt B King is something special, which means it’ll take something special to secure him. It’ll be the biggest trade St Kilda has been a part of since we farewelled Plugger. I know he’ll be out of contract and he *might* nominate us, but I think it’s still going to be an extraordinarily difficult trade to pull off.

So I’ll ask the question (and I’m genuinely interested to know what everyone’s thoughts are):

What would you prefer we sacrifice in a trade for B King -

- multiple first rounds draft picks
OR
- one of our ‘untradeable’ players (eg - Rowan Marshall)
OR
- the price is too high, thanks but no thanks

For the record, I’m genuinely undecided. I’m desperate for King to come to us, but losing multiple high draft picks is a dangerous game to be playing - you’re mortgaging your future.

Either way, it’s going to be a very, very interesting few months.

its all very dependant on this draft. If we pull in 3 very good midfield prospects and Heath turns out to be our future ruckman then our needs have been filled for the next couple years and sacrificing a full year for King isn't an issue. Next year watching our seconds will be very exciting

Will cease to be an issue at about 7.25 on 13th October this year.

I'll lose the picks happily.
