Fox sports have said the cats aren’t letting Fort go unless they have signed another ruckman… this will delay our plans I presume, or have we moved on to other targets?
Delay? I would hope that we were asking a number of ruck types around the league before this came out.

Yeah true - good call
I feel it’s a case of one trade being done and the ruckman will fall into place (holding pattern at the moment)

Someone posted an article in the Geelong trade thread where Wells said Fort was likely to stay at Geelong.

I think our best option is to wait and see what happens with the Geelong ruck situation and if they do end up keeping Fort there are ruck options for us later in the offseason.

I'd make that trade.

As far as opposition trade scenarios, I don't think we can accuse brutus76 of being unreasonable here.

14+18+50 for 11+2022R1. That's 2 late first rounders and a 3rd rounder for a mid-first rounder and a likely mid-first rounder. Certainly not ripping us off...

I think the criticism is more likely coming from people suggesting that we don't need 2022 first rounders. That's only somewhat correct. There's nothing wrong with us holding 2022 first rounders. We may trade them down a bit for points before the 2022 draft, but they're still currency, and we have this draft and next trade period to cash in the currency for something else we want at the time.

As a hypothetical scenario. No one shout me down over trade values etc. Let's say this deal does go down & Lachie also leaves.

We then have pick 6 (+ steak knives), + pick 11.

Next year we have two first rounders, but lo & behold, Sam Walsh realizes he can't go on not playing for the Lions & requests a trade. Luckily we have two first rounders to get the job done.

In 2021 pick 6, pick 11 (Obviously the rising star winner & runner up rising star not to mention future all australians)
In 2022 Sam Walsh, Will Ashcroft.

Out: Some picks and a player.

Then we just sit back & play the waiting game. Yes, that's clearly a Simpsons segue setup.

So yes, first round picks are not worthless for us next year.

No mention of Oliver?

Recently reported that Sam Walsh is in no hurry to extend his current deal beyond next year.

🤔

No left foot, one first rounder.

I don't really understand the tough time Beams is getting.

Lachie seems too classy to do a dayne beams and say he is staying then leave. Doubt the club would be pushing the issue. We're in a window and that could shut very quickly
Pretty sure it was Sam McClure who broke the news of him coming to us initially.
So he may be in the loop in some way.
Although I do think he seems to be a bit more of a ‘Man if his word’ than Beams.

Beams knew he was cooked. Wangled a 3 year (I think) deal at the Pies on good money knowing he'd be lucky to get half a season in. 6 games I think it was. Most importantly, as part of the trade we received the picks to get the Lachie Neale trade done. So he initiates an aged, physically and emotionally battered former champion to be replaced by an elite of the competition on a 5 year deal. What a win for us after getting a number of good years out of Dayne.

I say "Thank you Dayne".

And every Collingwood supporter I share my theory with gets that funny, realisation look after thinking about it for a bit and always comes to the conclusion that they were screwed, big time.

Watching a replay of Trading day on Kayo. Interesting that Jon Ralph mentions that both Melbourne & Brisbane are interested in Gold Coast's pick 19.

Not sure if he's assuming or has any actual sources, didn't really go into it in any depth.

Mathieson could never play Robinson’s role on the wing.

Mike Whiting was asked to look at Mathison's running during the off season.

He said matho has the ability to run out games hard, the problem is in his head and his self belief. Source the Roar Deal.

Might be the kind of player that needs a line in the sand game. Maybe that's why they keep playing him. They believe it will click.

Also don't underestimate the value of the energy player that gets the others up and about. After the first awful final Fagan said he was going to talk to the energy players (he mentioned Mitch and Charlie) to get their opinion on what went wrong. Energy is the X factor.

I doubt it would be. IMO all the announcements coming out after Neale sat down with the club would've been primarily to quieten down the media noise about it which was rather nasty and vitriolic towards the couple from quite a few sectors.

So from that regard I personally take anything said publicly with a grain of salt. Unless you were a fly on the wall in the meeting you'd have no idea.

Nothing changes really, if he really wants to head back now rather than in two years then we'll try to facilitate a fair trade given he has two years to run on a contract. If not then he'll stay & be a consummate professional I'm sure.

I do not want Neale to leave, it'll set us back a long way.

But the schache contract and trade shadow lingers. The contact settled the chat ...

I think the main reason we keep playing him is because of injuries, don't get me wrong Matho is about the best depth you can get especially for players like Neale or Lyons but likewise with Keays it just isn't really an option to play anymore than 2-3 specialist inside mids in an AFL team. The game has transitioned so much into an endurance and athleticism battle having too many players that aren't that becomes a problem as we found at times this season.
