Thought it quite funny that Cornes was getting cranky and impatient on the radio this morning with Geelong, Port, Brisbane and the Dogs etc for doing 'nothing' this trade period. But is giving Melbourne the big tick for bringing in Dunstan.

Yeah aren't Melbourne great picking up someone who was delisted by a team that missed finals

BRISBANE PICK COULD UNLOCK RUCK TRADES

A FUTURE third-round pick could unlock the ruck merry-go-round set to spin on the last day of the Trade Period.

Brisbane's interest in contracted Geelong big man Darcy Fort has made for an interconnected range of ruck possibilities, with the Cats keen on Hawthorn's Jon Ceglar before they release Fort to the Lions.

But that would also take a pick to head to Hawthorn, who are likely to send the pick to Collingwood in exchange for Max Lynch – although that deal could be done slightly separately to the other ruck moves.

It is understood the Hawks are pushing for a future third-round pick to come via the Lions to then pass onto Collingwood, with the Pies already well stocked for selections this year.

But the Lions have been unwilling to part with the selection given the club has father-son and draft points considerations next year with Will Ashcroft, the son of triple father-son player Marcus who shapes as a No.1 pick contender. - Callum Twomey

Do you have an example of a trade that you think we should do irish
Well I don’t see a fella who has played a handful of games in 3 years at a club with dodgy ruck stocks , happy to be proven wrong. Ceglar is even a dodgy selection, so considering we are poor in dollars it has to be the draft. Only way to draft is to go for a hawk special like a brust ?

And yet he only had the basket case Suns or Melbourne to choose from
I was hoping we could get him after seeing him out muscle us late in the season. He was very impressive...must be some in-house issues between he n the coach. Alas we have no $ n little room to entice him.

He plays a role that isn't difficult to fill and has no flexibility. Very easy to find a player like him

Why didn't we stop him from kicking our butt n getting 2 Brownlow votes? Thought he should have got the 3 he was so dominant. Probably what the Premier team saw in him.

Our whole team stunk it up that day as a result of the fixture mess

It was a stinker!
Due to the traffic at that shithouse Stadium, only got to my seat just in time to see Hippy tear his ACL and it only went down hill from there. (If that’s Possible).

I can't see him anywhere near the Dees best 22. IMO he will be a capable depth player at Melbourne, but will have to rely on a few injuries to get a chance in the seniors. Great pickup for free though.

BOG in a handful of games in the VFL in 2022 for sure. The Dees were kissed on the proverbial this year in terms of injury, and that wouldn't be lost on them.

Dunstan is a great depth player if that isn't the case again next year.

I find it hilarious that it’s Brisbane’s ‘fault’ in all this. It’s like three small kids in the playground fighting over an object but the new kid gets blamed. So short sighted but what do you expect?

We gave Geelong 41 for ruckman West...just getting it back :) Seriously tho I expect our future 2nd to be at least 36 + F/S s n Academy...could be 41.
Pick 36 is the last pick of round 2.

But the important thing for us would be it’s points value in matching a bid for Ashcroft.

Trading our future second round pick pretty much guarantees that we have to trade our first round pick just for extra points.

Or we’re trading a fringe best 22 player who wants more opportunities elsewhere for points.

I must be living in some kind of parallel universe...Dunstan received 11 Brownlow votes from 12 games and some of you are saying he is a half decent depth player. I only imagine if he gets to play a full season in a good team..... he will be dynamic. Petracca Viney Oliver Bradshaw and Dunstan. A very nice combo.

It's not just us it's also 16 AFL clubs

I thought I implied he was a brilliant depth player. A brilliant depth player is better than a half decent depth player.

If Dunstan was coming to us everyone would be looking at the positives.

There's a tendency to overrate what we do and put the kybosh on what others do. Even though we make our share of mistakes like everyone else.

I'd love to have Dunstan on our list instead of a few others who are there but it was never doable. I think it's a canny pick up by Melbourne and he could prove more than useful next year.

Dunstan is a low risk inclusion for Melbourne.
At best he could compliment the dynamic qualities of Petracca and Oliver, getting his share of contested ball while a Petracca perhaps spends time forward.
At worst he can be hidden in that midfield collecting an easy 20 p’s a week or simply as depth in the magoos.

For us (and Port imo) he likely doesn’t improve or compliment our midfield as much with our current mix in there.

Dunstan - so we add not quick accumulator, with ordinary skills. Turns the ball over more than any of our existing.

How does that mix with Neale, Lyons, Robertson, Berry, Matho, CEY & Ely Smith? None are quick and if honest there skills are mixed at the best of times.

We need more complimentary mids & wings, with some different skillsets. Pace, foot skills, etc Zorko, Bailey, etc. hopefully also have ball winning ability.

I struggle to understand how some cannot comprehend this. More of the same/similar is not the answer.
