Relocate to Canberra permanently and the crowds will be at least 9k instead.I always suspected there were more away fans at giants home games inflating the numbers and that a game against gold coast would show how many gws fans usually show up. 3 to 4k is around what I expected. I wonder if the AFL consider the expansion teams a success? They have actually gone backwards over 10 years if anything.
Yes I predicted 55-60,000. It’s probably down 10% or more. The trends established it would seem. Let’s hope over the next year or two things gradually normalise. However I do get a sense this period of adjustment (digital tickets etc) will take time.A good crowd of 53K but I guess on the lower side to what some were expecting, I thought 55-60K, gopies expected 60-65K
There just seems to be a weird feeling about crowds across the board. Im hoping this is just a short term thing and not ingrained now with 2 years of covid that some will just prefer to watch it at home.
I notice this year is described as "non-covid" but its clear that covid is negativity affecting crowds. Just because its out of the headlines people think that covid is no longer a factor, but evidently not true.
This is a Hawthirn members replacement game. That should bring in an additional 4-5,000 Hawks fans. Will be interesting to see what Carlton v Hawthorn draws today.
Ordinarily this is one of the high drawing fixtures which are scheduled for Docklands to meet the 2 out of 12 high drawing stadium requirements…
The only 4 Carlton v Hawthorn games at the MCG include -
Round 10 2021 Carlton v Hawthorn 45,751
Round 13 2014 Carlton v Hawthorn 49,654
Round 14 2012 Carlton v Hawthorn 65,017
And Round 12 1986 Carlton v Hawthorn 57,634
All games have been mid-to-late season.
In fact it’s very rare for a Hawthorn v Carlton MCG game to be scheduled early in the season (the only game was in round 6 2009 - 69,814)
By contrast Carlton has hosted Hawthorn at Docklands in 2004, 05, 06 (early), 07, 08, 10, 11, 13, 15, 17 and 18.
So we are in uncharted waters with / without Covid restrictions.
I think it's closer to being 15% down rather than 10% as we all said initially.Yes I predicted 55-60,000. It’s probably down 10% or more. The trends established it would seem. Hopefully the days of Blues (and Dons) vs Hawthorn games at Docklands are a thing of the past.Big crowd at the G today for Blues vs Hawks

We can only hope. Although stadium agreements and requirement for minimum number of blockbuster fixtures will likely prevent this from reoccurring g.Hopefully the days of Blues (and Dons) vs Hawthorn games at Docklands are a thing of the past.
Perhaps one for the new HFC president once we bail from Tasmania
Good crowd.

Why? The AFL manage the stadium and both Marvel and the MCG use the same catering company. We can only hope. Although stadium agreements and requirement for minimum number of blockbuster fixtures will likely prevent this from reoccurring g.
