No other than Rankine, we tried to get a deal done for Phillipou but no buyers were available with what we put on the table 2023 1st and our Roos 2023 2nd round pick, we may have been able to swing a deal for Barnett if Sydney didn't force us to bid earlier than was generally thought it would come for MM/ Seems Dowling was our fall back option if we couldn't get Phillipou and obviosly we rated Hugh Bond a fair bit above where he was available.

So the Master plan executed with deadly accuracy once again mate?

Is there any scenario imaginable where you would say we didn't quite hit the mark?

Rankine was always our number 1 option. MM was obviously rated highly, Kinnear Beatson/Simon Dalrymple by bidding where they did franked that.

We made a fair offer to try and get a deal done with Essendon and likely other clubs for Phillipou which was turned down.

What else would you suggest we could have done and don't come at me with using our 2023 1st for Rankine which the Suns did not want or the PSD.

Not sure Phillipou was our target, he slipped to 10 so we could have live trade with the Saints for our 2023 1st and North's 2023 2nd, they would be nuts to have turn that down if we offered it.

I think had we rookied a Verrall type most of this board would have been estatic with the draft this year , as opposed to being pleased with the result.

Ie pay out McPherson, draft Verrall pick 5 of the rookie draft

What needs, all year it was our Midfield that failed,
We strengthen our midfield, with Rankine, Dowling and Bond. All have a high chance of playing AFL in 2023.

In 2023 We did not need a developing Ruck, we did need a developing tall Defender or Forward,
We need Players with a difference we got one.
We needed strong quick Mids with some size, and aggression we got 2 one is a known entity for finding the Football.
All these players are AFL-ready and will get game time in 2023
As a bonus, we may have picked a 10-year versatile defender. Who will most likely be AFL ready in 2024

So tell me what needs were not met and if you say Ruck then tell me who could we have gotten that would be AFL-ready in 2023 I believe you would struggle to find one that would get a game in 2024.
I’m confused, since when does a rebuilding side draft for next year? Actually which clubs do that period?

clearly 2023 is the year we're targeting most with so many contracts (at this stage at least) coming to an end and a pretty strong draft hand in theory.

All three Crows national draftees have the potential to play senior footy at some stage in 2023. But father-son gun Max Michalanney, who’s wasted no time getting to work on the training track at the Crows, could be in the mix for a Round 1 debut. A mobile yet disciplined defender with strong intercept ability, Michalanney played three SANFL league games for the Redlegs this year as a lockdown defender, while he also has rebound ability. Adelaide fans should also expect midfielders Billy Dowling and Hugh Bond to get AFL games in 2023, but more likely in the back-half of the year.

Throwing a lot of darts is absolutely the right thing to do but you also want a few goes standing up close and also the main thing is you want to be good at darts
FTR, no one is as good as us at darts in the later rounds or standing far away as you put it.

none of these three are playing in 2023 let alone round 1

So for our itk posters, did we end up with who we wanted?
We got Michelanney for what we assumed we'd have to pay - our picks at the end of the draft.

We got NMs future 2nd.

We were locked on to Dowling from very early on, and pretty much every predraft projection had us targeting him, so that is one who we wanted and got.

No-one knew about Bond, but he seems an interesting defensive type with AFL traits.

Hard to know if there's any we wanted and missed out on. We had the assets to trade for Barnett if we wanted, and we didn't do it. If we wanted Phillipou, we behaved oddly by putting up our pick 5 for trade at minute one of trade week. There could be more factors influencing that, but it's hard to know for sure.

ModernArtillery predicted Bond to us, in his Phantom Draft

I'm sure we had a list of 5-6 targets .....we just discover a couple after we catch them ......the rest escaped our net

Only difference for me would have been to take Verral in lieu of Bond...not because I don't like Bond's profile - he looks like he might be a good get, but the extra tall that can ruck and play KPP down the track would have been more of a need for us

Was surprised and disappointed Collier-Dawkins never even got Rookied
Why?
All the club's would have scouts at all the games he played and obviously they're not seeing an AFL player at this point.

Maybe he gets a shot as a train on player, if not he should head over to SA and hopefully for him dominate the SANFL. It's a well worn path for players looking for another shot at AFL and it would get him out of his comfort zone which I think might be a problem for him. Has had a reputation for being a bit of a cruiser.

Can't believe he lasted to the second round of the Rookie Draft, should have been drafted on Monday night, explosive, tough, clever, so much upside.

That's the type of local we've missed on because our list is full!!

We missed on a guy no one wanted in a crappy draft year? Oh no!

What on earth does 'medium talent' mean? Soligo showed he could be in that A grade class of mids, if his trajectory continues. Take Soligo in the top 10 last year and he then has the first season that he did, and this board wouldn't continually bang on about the non drafting of talented, potential elite mids inside the top 10.

Completely, fundamentally disagree

Soligo is a great story, looks a very nice player. But he benefits from the fact his narrative story arc gets a little mayo due to where he was drafted.

The whole thing, so far, is much less the feel good story if he’s top 10.

Regarding a ruck, I have no problems waiting a year. We have potentially three picks in the top 30, perhaps even in the top 25. We can either draft or trade in real quality and do it properly. In the meantime we have plenty of cover with ROB, Strachan, TT and Himmelberg. Lets do it properly and nail it!

When do you imagine a project ruckman selected in the 2023 draft will be ready to contribute and make a real difference in game day?

2029? 2030?

We definitely see Thilthorpe as the elite ruckman who can kick 2-3 goals when resting forward, just look at the game against Collingwood as what he can deliver leading the ruck and resting forward and Berry isn't classified as potential anymore. Gollant can actually play tall.

We do not.

As always you deliver

Far too many variables to give a definitive answer. Depends on weight, build, and age. Eg I believe from what we saw late this year that TT could make a significant impact next year, only his third year since being drafted. We could also trade in a ready or almost ready to go ruck. Or to put it another way, a long time before KFC's chips are crisp and not soggy or mushy; hot and not luke warm or cold;).

I can’t believe how lazy you need to be to believe we are good at making late round draft picks or that we are better than other teams at it

I mean 2 lazy eyes that can literally not focus on other teams or the ladder like lazy

TT is a forward

He's signed for wwt

The longer we leave it, the more it's going to cost us as the development window will be smaller (in line with our list profile).

We will have to either cough up a decent pick in a trade or use a higher pick to draft a less speculative big man.
