We usually do a GD Draft thread to keep the stuff out if the Drafting and trading thread.

WE will close that one for now and reopen after the draft.

Ive copied the last 25 posts over to keep the chat going.

All Draft talk in here now please.

So its gone from definitely NOT trading down...Wells excited to have a top 10 pick to various options trading down...

Ducks and drakes I reckon..I want Clark but suspect Hawks might take him..McKenzie would be a nice alternative.

Don’t think we will have to worry about trading back. I’m all for it up to the Bulldogs pick. Probably means our partners are limited to ST K or the Bulldogs. The HS are now reporting that the Dogs are now dealing with the Bombers.

It’s a pretty clear sign (if you listed to all those recruiters) that there is a top 13. Trading with Melb or Sydney doesn’t get you there. You also guaranteed mediocre picks next year.

The Bulldogs want Tsatas according to the HS. If we went back to 12 we’d probably still have one of Ed Allan and Busslinger to choose from. We clearly like both.

Hypothetically
Clark Vs Allan/Busslinger PLUS a Future 1st (either theirs or the one tied to Brisbane). It’s a no brainer for me.

I definitely wouldn’t be trading down unless we still ended up with one of the top 13 in this years draft.

I agree id want to stay in the top 15.
I wouldnt say late 1sts next year is mediocre as that draft will be very good even 15-20 range picks will be good.

I agree going down to the dogs pick or carltons and not further would be good as we would still get one of buss or if we get lucky a mckenzie/humphrey/ginbey type slides through. A pick inside 12 and dogs future 1st id be happy with.
Id only do 13 from melb if they add both their fr1s.
If we did stkilda at 9 that would be great as i reckon one of tsatas clark humphrey or mckenzie definitely gets to 9 (whereas maybe not at 11). If thats viable im not sure.

Gold Coast have apparently interviewed Clark twice... I guess they have a vested interest in Pick 7 (8) and need to make sure it's used wisely. Then again they may think if he's good enough for Cats we'll go for him

I think Humphrey is a cert for the Suns...

they obviously do not have anyone in mind as a RFA for next year then, as if we are holding two first round picks, every single club will match and try and take both of them off us... it will be too damn tempting.

if geelong is heavily open to trading back from pick 8 to mid teens x 2, then it does not speak volumes for the apparent desperation reported all season long to land Clark (if his on the board at 8)... nothing more than media trying to connect A and B and run with a story

So we all have said whom we want...

Whom is the 1 player you DONT want taken with pick 7.

Only one choice.

Whom is the Kane Tenace, Jackson Thurlow or Bille Smedts that you dont want at Pick 7.

I’d very much like Jackson Thurlow pre-injury.

While I do agree, you can’t blame the media there. We have reached for local products in the past - and our first two picks last year were local.

We may very well take Clark... but just by looking at the amount small inside mids we will have on the list in a couple of years compared to dashing linking up types + upcoming key position players we will have tells a story to me.

Agree but Disagree there with the part on 15-20 picks. Stand by mediocre when compared to top 8 picks

1 Next year is always a super draft till it isn’t. Same conversation last year esp with talls. Happens year in year out because clubs are in the “Hope” business. Is a super draft quantity or a super top 6??
2. Top 10 picks are infinitely better no matter what the draft over picks after 15.

As per my original post this year is unique as up to 13 nobody seems to mind too much as long as you have a pick inside the 13. The decline doesn’t seem to be steep until you hit pick 14. We also must address next year at some point. That’s a reality.

if anything it has probably helped the kid out with added positive media and attention from other clubs as our recruitment is highly regarded. Something i am sure the club was happy to let roll along all season even if little truth to the rumbles. No harm done

I think you mean picks 11 & 21, or is it 12 & 20? Or 14 & 17?
If we get the Godfather offer for pick 7 then like Wells said we'll pay close attention to it and maybe take it.

Otherwise we get a really good player at 7 and the diamond polishing at 58.
