If they don’t rate him at 1, why on earth bid. Clubs like GWS would have done no work into Ashcroft anyway. They will take Cadman

Except they don’t actually rate Cadman at 1. They’ve been pretty clear they rate him as the best available list fit who they think won’t ask for a trade back to Melbourne in 2-4 years. So if there is integrity in the draft they should bid. But there isn’t, so they probably won’t

Yuck. Hope you don’t for your sakes. You’ve got a pretty good list now though so I guess if anyone could take a punt it’s probably you guys. You’d be backing yourselves to head up the ladder next year so it might be worth the punt. I just don’t see it as a good option for anyone except Sydney personally.

They’d be better off giving up this years first rounder and they won’t do that. Why would you give up a probably top 10 pick in a very strong 2023 draft for 2 picks Sydney don’t really rate? I can’t see anyone offering next year first rounders for Sydney’s firsts this year.

They've got a few academy kids higher up the order and are looking to move up the ladder. I'd back them in to get up to at least 10th, and if they are getting a top 5 pick anyway they might take the two talents this year instead. It's never a guarantee, but Goldy could take the punt to get Hollands and Hayes in the system this year. Apart from them, who else takes that deal?

One gets the feeling that they'd be happy to move on both for a pair of F1s or F2s.

They do but honestly theres no key forward worth picking in r1 of this draft imo (besides cadman) so wce might only fill that need with later or rookie picks.

Bulldogs have two F1s and may be tempted.
Only taking three live picks at the draft though and already have 11 and 21 so would only look at a deal for one pick

Yeah I have no issue when teams bid. Who cares if there’s a bid at 4 or a bid at 1, it literally makes zero difference. If I were to guess you’ll bid at 3. Take Wardlaw at 2, then bid. Shezel at 4.

It does make a difference though.
For instance, if it's an early pick and it uses up their second and third pick to make the points up, then they don't get to take another player at those picks and therefore you're second rounder Would be advanced by one pick.

Or if they go into deficit for the following year, your teams pick might move up as they have to slide back to cover the points.

I certainly wouldn't mind if Brisbane went in to deficit and it meant my team potentially had a higher pick in next year's draft

Apparently Carlton have a lot of potential trades discussed with Clubs. We've been open that we want an extra pick inside 30.
As to what trades happens, don't think we find out until Monday and Tuesday nights.

Part of most clubs feeling out options, you'd suspect.

I'd hope that GWS would get into that discussion as an alternative (or similar trade probes). I can't see why Freo would want to lose their first pick when it's already so far back, and with a few list holes to fill. Whereas for GWS, swapping out #31 for Blues' F2R and #64 this year would make sense to me, considering a likely bid on Harry Rowston and the other picks we have.
