Did hurt his back, but wasn't too bad obviously. Saints got him into moth balls early, don't know if they got Owens to run dead though.
Windhager’s back was bad, only just avoided surgery..missed a fair chunk of last pre season, which makes his performance this year all the more impressive.

Sounds like Essendon is choosing from tsatas/phillipou, Gold Coast will then take Humphrey, and Hawthorn who is left out of tsatas/phillipou. You would assume Geelong then take clark, leaving west coast a choice out of ginbey/busslinger/Allan/McKenzie. If west coast take cmac, I wonder who we go? I’d nearly take busslinger and pick up a small forward plus mids with our later picks.
We need to pick up a pure mid with our first pick, that’s where the cream is..picking mids lower down the pecking order rarely pays off!

Wasn't a ruse, but came in handy. Was told mid year to pull back a bit, before the back, so it wasn't blatant, however it was beneficial.
Didn't he hurt his back well after the NAB League season had been shutdown?

Windy said in a podcast that he had been smashing himself with running sessions & had pulled up sore...a scan revealed the disc issue & he was out of action for an extended time.

We were lucky that the mid year lockdown put Windy & Mitch on ice as their form with Sandy & in school footy form was trending sharply upwards. Mitch's inclusion in the 1st champs game (where he came in late & had a ripper) pushed him up past Windy & towards a borderline top 20 pick.

So unless Lethers had a few removalists from NSW on the payroll, we simply got kissed right on the ....

West Coast keen on Gibney

“My mail is there is a whisper around that even West Coast are exploring an option of pushing a little bit higher up the draft in the hope of nabbing him before someone else.

“If he’s not there at the Eagles’ pick eight or nine, there’s still some exceptional talent and exciting prospects.”

West Coast’s list manager Rohan O’Brien told SEN WAon Tuesday that picking local talent was usually the “better outcome” for them

I really like Hewitt if Mackenzie & Phillipou are gone.
Looked as good as anyone in one of the championship games I watched. I watched an interview with him, he was well spoken and has his head screwed on. Played a lot of elite baseball in rep team up until around 15 and wasn’t concerned where he was drafted. Played very little u18 football this year as he’s been playing seniors with swan districts so that’s a bonus as well.

Twomey in his podcast this morning pretty much saying Essendon still deciding between Tsatas/Phillipou, But Hawthorn are really keen on Tsatas and will probably snap him up if he makes it through.

Said we are another club interested in him. Said Geelong are keen but pretty much confirmed Clark will go to them.

I’m thinking if Essendon take Tsatas. The Hawks will take Mackenzie, unless Humphrey is still on the board.

Which means Phillipou for us

Thats Clark and Ginbey?

* i wish the draft would just hurry up.
Correct. There hasn't been any real discussion with us and those 2 players - not sure if that's because we aren't interested or if the media presume they will be gone - so it's ideal if they go to Geelong and WC because then at least one of our preferred targets would still be on the board.

Some Geelong fans aren't convinced that Clark is their real target so if they are correct on that front, it would likely impact who we would be taking. Until this week, Hawthorn had been connected to Clark (in the scenario Ess take Tsatas) so that could also mean Phillipou is available if Essendon pass on him.

Reading a lot about the draft and it appears that the bombers are going to pick Philipou and it appears very unlikely that tsatas will end up with the hawks.

That means our best bet at a midfield gun is McKenzie or potentially ginbey is picked by the sun's and we are a chance of Humphrey

Interesting article about McKenzie on the Fox website , the kid doesn't even mention any link to St Kilda , in any shape or form.
It didn't sound like he was keen to get to us , maybe i missed something as i remember Windy and Owens talking about how they trained with the Saints and hoped they got picked up by them

Any of those three would be fine in my book

Even with the recent talk of the hawks flying him out and a bunch of interviews?

I'm hopeful they're making a big scene on Phillipou to get tsatas through but I really could see them taking CMAC or Phillipou if they can't get tsatas.

The kid’s being realistic, the draft is a lottery whereby he could go to any of a number of clubs!

Don’t fall for that line. The Eagles will take best available for sure and back the lifestyle here to turn draftees into career players at the club.

I said it on another thread but Roughy flew into Busselton on Monday night which is Reuben Ginbey territory. I wonder if our list management team are expecting him to slide to us and just doing some final checks.

If either of McKenzie or Phillipou get through to us I’ll be elated.
