To me McKenzie is a near certain good player. Good clean user, gets the ball and seems to be natural mid. He reminds me of one of those blonde Sydney guys they always seem to find. Jude Bolton, Callum Mills, Hanners etc. They aren't really match winners but just do everything to an excellent standard.

I'm torn, guys like Poo and The Bear seem more like game breakers who do the intangible stuff. Do we take the safe bet or speculate on a star with higher bust factor? I think Poo is a good in-between and Humphrey has the full on gamble factor. He could be the best in his draft or a messy not quite type.
Humphrey gives me big Powell pepper vibes. Messy disposal but powerful. I would pass at our pick.

While NWM was good last year it was the no.47 pick that was most impressive with the no. 33 showing lots.
We know we will get a good one with pick 9, have to nail 28 and 32 they way we nailed our lower picks last year.

We get 2 out of three and that is 5 out of 6 youngsters with great potential from 2 drafts.
Good start

Nothing yet - "To shine a light on this year’s pool and give you an insight into how the national draft might play out, Chris Cavanagh, Dan Batten and Jordan Pinto will play the role of club recruiters in a mock draft of the first two rounds live here at 12pm AEDT on Monday."

My name isnt Glen BTW. Sorry, I just had to point that out because I don’t particularly like the name (apologies to any Glen’s out there).

It’s no secret our team contains a lot of B graders & lacks match winners. Humphrey is likened to De Goey & Petracca because he’s a true hybrid forward-mid that plays with serious intensity. He’s a bit of a powerhouse that impacts the game in bursts & is very good one on one. His knock is he isn’t the most accurate kick for goal. But gets lots of looks at goal.

From memory he averaged 20 touches, 2 goals & 100 fantasy points a game throughout the year. I just think we need to take a bit of a punt on a bloke that has the potential to be elite.

Not as safe a bet as some of the others but could be anything. Problem is he is very unlikely to make it to our pick, so it’s a moot point.
onya Glen

Club has been public in its desire for an A Grader and it featured in our report.
Reckon we’re a lock for Phillipou if he’s a available

From the highlights I have seen McKenzie looks the best if the two. Keep in mind apart from the national games. One is playing against boys and the other against men.

McKenzie has a lot of strength to break through the contest and get the ball forward, where phillipou a lot of the time holds the space and dishes off. McKenzie had better disposable efficiency, while Phillipou pulled off some kicks and handballs which showed X factor. I reckon once he is in a professional environment. He will start being able to break those packs and his disposal will improve.

I would personally select Phillipou based on potential to become a star and he is more versatile. Where as some one said above, McKenzie could become A graded but not reach that level above. Either way, it is a win.

Mackenzie is also almost a full year older than Phillipou

I see McKenzie as probably the safer pick but Phillipou looks to have a higher ceiling IMO

I dipute anyone who thinks Mckenzie can’t reach a level above. If you look at guys like Oliver, Cripps. He has theat the same playing style but with much more athleticism and class.

Can’t?

I like Mckenzie a lot and I’d be happy if we pick him but Phillipou has something about him that makes me want to take the risk. It‘s unlikely but if there are 2 of the kids we fancy at our pick I’d be playing overs to grab them both.

If you look at guys like Oliver and Cripps they are massive units.
I'm not sure its just their "playing style". Maybe their physicality something to do with it.

But i'm happy if we get either Phillipou or McKenzie.

If only there had been two like them in the 2017 draft. ( Clark Coffield ).
But then again , if we had 2 picks we'd be arguing whether to take two mids or a mid and Buslinger.

Watch on from the 7:15 mark. Definitely confident in his own ability and backs him self in. Could this be the FIGJAM game winner that we have be wanting? I will be happy if we get either Phillipou or McKenzie.

Any kid that has such little respect for himself to be interviewed by that spud is not welcome at our club

Yes a good strategy future first and 28 for the next pick.

Sound overs and people say what about next years first. two things to that.

Next year will work itself out. If NWM wants to go home for example, we can get two firsts or a first and a high second. Back into the draft at a high level. Yeah we loose a quality player and two years, but CMAC and Phillipou have been in the Lyon system for a year.

We had a plan to hit the draft to turn things around. We got three high potential players blooded and really came on (kudo's to Ratts there), we land CMAC, Phillipou and nail pick 32, there is a great base to launch.

In full agreement with you Yawkey way if the opportunity comes we do it.

Edit: Forgot FA's as well. We will hopefully be in a better place to land a quality FA next season as well.

was it in 2017 that we desperately needed mids and instead we picked up HBF in the hopes to turn them into mids?

There is talk GWS is looking to trade 19,31
Could st kilda make an offer for those picks?
If so, what could it be.
Doubt we’d have interest, we need top 10 picks to get out of this rebuild. Those picks won’t help.

Probably fanciful, but could we get creative and try for the following?

32 & 47 (StK) for 22 (Ess)
Future 2nd & 3rd (StK) for 19 (GWS) - Pretty sure this doesn't really work for them, but you never know. It also depends on who is still on the board after 18.

Could see us go with 10, 19, 22 and 28.

GWS would be looking at a future 1st for 19 rather than a few 2nds I'd imagine, so not much St Kilda can really do to make it happen. Especially because it is the first pick of the 2nd round so it's so much more valuable. If GWS do trade it, I'd imagine it would be to a finals team like Melbourne for their future first

What about 22 and a future 4th for our future 2nd and 47?
Gives Essendon points this year while basically pushing pick 22 into next year.
Gives us 3 2nd rounders in the draft, and 4 picks in the top 32 (for available players).
