Not sure where this myth about Hamill having a good kick came from. He is generally horrendous by foot. In 21/22 it was rare to see him ever hit up a clean target.

Hopefully he can improve his kicking because the rest of his game is good and we need a solid small defender.

He has good decision making and a good kicking technique but struggles to weight the ball correctly. Often kicks over teammates heads.

I reckon the last thing he is is a "solid small defender". His defence looks extremely dubious to me.
I think he's much more suited as a running wingman.

Again with the draft profiles...it won't convince me on Murphy either.

I'm sure lots of kids look like they have a great kick at under 18 level.

I was going to say, probably from his draft profile.

Same mythical place as "Chayce Jones is an elite midfielder "

Even most of us pro-Fogsters were hanging in by our fingernails. It got pretty dark before the dawn.
So much so I have few finger nails left!

But now I have that late season mark of his playing on a constant loop in my head. Barrels through the oppo player and takes it one handed because he needs the other hand to brush his hair back 😄

Says everything about what he can be

Darcy "Carey" Fogarty.

This is his ceiling, wowee.

Was going to say if someone posted chayces you’d accuse them of posting someone else’s.

Great exciting stuff to watch that puts bums on seats , but Fog’s real strengths are his hard lead, clean hands and accurate kicking for goal which we have never fully utilised. I’m excited for an improved Soligo with Rankine and Dawson hitting him up, and with his conversion rate could see 3+ goal avge .

He is a good kick. It’s more he’s delivering under pressure a lot as he likes to take it on.
Tbh, we haven’t seen enough of him not under pressure to adjudicate his kicking.

Bizarre to have a crack at Vader when admitting as a ‘pro-Fogster’ you were hanging on by your fingernails.
The turnaround of Fog mid-season was amazing, but there were alarm bells ringing by plenty of experienced pundits outside of the Crows board who were worried he’d reached his ceiling.
IMO he’s shifted his ceiling significantly, and started to show things he didn’t look like ever going to be capable of.

Nope, not bizarre.

Vader was off the Fog train very early, at the first sign that he wasn’t going to dominate early …Vader wanted him out.

What Vader now continually says is … that if Fog had been showing his future form earlier, he would have said what he is saying now then. Genius.

It seems a given that talls take longer to develop at AFL level

But if at 17/18 years old they don't carve up national championship matches the same leeway is not afforded...?

Talls take longer to develop at AFL level cos they need time to build up their bodies.

That shouldn’t be a problem when competing against fellow stringbean U18s, so they should be showing their quality then.

The Fog saga shows the value of good coaching and support staff.
They basically changed 3 things - upped his fitness, direct attack on the incoming ball and boosting his self-confidence - he suddenly changes from a liability to an asset almost overnight.

Bad players can be coach killers we know, but bad coaching can be a player killer too

Now for Fischer!

I don't think that's the only issue talls encounter though

Just the fact that so many quality ruckmen were late draft picks / rookie picks shows how poor we are at judging talls early

What I'm saying is that if his issues had been addressed earlier, then he would have been rewarded with his good form earlier.

That good form didn't happen, and was never going to happen, until he addressed the issues which I (and many others) identified early on.

The failure here is yours - you blithely insisted that he would come good, despite him having obvious deficiencies which needed addressing. To put it politely, you were somewhere off in cuckoo land. His breakout, once his deficiencies had been addressed, does not validate your position - it validates mine, and all those who (like me) were critical of his previous failure to address his problems.

You can't put an experienced / older head on an 18 yo's body ! ......however often you suggest this

It's an expectation of KPP that they rarely "breakout" until the 50 game mark

Fogs entered the season 22 yo & 41 games

Thilthorpe now has 25 games .....I'd suggest in 2024, at 22 yo and 45+ games ......he'll tread a similar path to Fogarty

IMO it was Rahilly that made the difference to Fogs .....so much experience watching Hawkins play, which has translated well with Fogarty
