So if I understand this correctly (?) the only way we can take more than MM is if we then don’t rookie Seeds &/or McPherson despite promising them that we would?

Seems to me this is more about keeping Butts & Strachan, than opening up new list spots

The commitment to redraft McPherson and Seedsman is not a strong decision.

Sure the club has a plan heading into the draft, but why are people pretending it's some out of the box 10d chess strategy, or even a good plan?

Didn’t we need to delist them to take the draft picks into the draft?
Because you can only take in the number of picks that you have list spots for

Pretty sure that rule applies this year - after delisting Seeds & MacPh, we've now got 5 list spots open before draft night.

Though can't see us acquiring more picks before draft (unless it's a really pointy end one) as don't want an early-ish one eaten by a Michalanney bid, and what's the point of later picks when we should be able to trade picks in if needed.

We currently have 5 spare list spots and can take 3 in the national draft.

For every one of Seed, Moose and Turner we plan to relist in the rookie draft, we gave up one of those picks (first from the rookie list).

We have kind of committed to taking each, but it didn't seem iron clad. We could also take Turner in the pre season draft with the list spot freed up by placing Seed back on the LTI list.

He didn’t. Bickley talked up the moves Port made to get Rozee and Burton and also drafted Butters and Duursma. Bicks then said what we did including drafting Jones and McHenry, doing pick swap with Carlton which got us McAsey. Rowey lauded Cripps because of the moves we made and said we’ve got a dud.

He never bagged the players we drafted. CB4H has made it up because he doesn’t like the Crows being criticised.

We had 37 main list spots, and 6 rookies (1 extra than allowed due to Turner being a MSD pick from the Seedsman LTI)

Delisted Turner and Davis = 37/4
Traded Frampton out = 36/4
Delisted Rowe = 35/4
Retired Brown = 34/4

Traded in Rankine = 35/4

3 open list spots for the draft. Draft Michalanney, upgrade Butts and Strachan, 38/2. Leaving us 2 rookie spots only.

By delisting Seeds/ McPherson, we open up 2 spots. 36/2. By drafting them in the rookie draft, we go to 36/4, still 2 open spots, but we don’t have to use them in the rookie draft only, we can use both for the main list, both for the rookie list, or one of each.

He’s never said McHenry is a gun, just that he does his job but needs to add more goals like some of the best small forwards who play that role, again stuff he said during the year.

He’s calling Reid a dud because Port made moves and brought in Rozee and Burton, whilst getting rid of guys who have gone onto nothing and received good draft collateral and we did nothing.

It doesn't mean he isn't coming back. Players now can be selected to play off the rookie list without upgrade. So hopefully he makes it back. This is just about opening list spots for players that we have to upgrade.

The AFL rules are a joke. Because next year we can theoretically put Butts and Strachan BACK on the rookie list. But we need to upgrade them now to retain them. Go figure.

Agree that Seeds is a legend. A very, very good player at what he does. The critics (and there are plenty here on this board) look at what he can't do well. Not what he does exceptionally well.

I really hope that he can recover and come back, both for the team, and for his own health and wellbeing which is paramount.
