JHF has told North he wants to be traded this year.
It's happened. Whether they are willing to do it or not is still to be seen.
Massive if true.

It would be really difficult to get both this year, either GC or North the lesser deal.

We would need three first round picks.

Right now Sydney has 15 and 16, would they trade for pick 6 (assuming that our first)?

15 for Rankine, seems a little under but leaves its with;

2023 first and 16 for JHF, throw in our second for their third, not far off the offer last year.

We could swop seconds with gold coast, but they are likely to deal with Brisbane for their first so pretty worthless.

Giving it to North wouldn't work unless we got another back for a player, Sholl, etc as must have either a first or second reach year. If we did get say Carlton's for Sholl, North might like it, they were the ones saying an early second is like a late first written we tried to trade last year.

I don't think you can trade rookies, so he probably needs to be upgraded to the main list first.

His only hope would be a Sam Collins type,t 2cm shorter (192 v 194) which could be a problem.
Absolutely you can trade rookies. I'm fairly sure that JJ was on Essendon's rookie list when we traded for him.

They do, however, need to go onto the senior list of the gaining club.

If Himm goes to freo as rumoured.. what back up kpf do we have?..

We need to keep the fish.
And Fish could be cheap? I'd be more inclined to keep him if that were the case. I'd say the only way he would play is if TT got injured but even then, they might bring in Strachan or go the Murray route again.

I feel Himm and Frampton could cost too much for what they are to keep.

Only way is if gc or north accepts a player like Keays as part of the deal.

This is what I think the club will do, not what I would do

Frampton DELIST, worn out his welcome
Berg 1year contract, just in case it clicks
Hinge 1year rolling contract to fill a spot until others of standard develop
Rowe 1year contract because Nicks likes him, I don't
Turner DELIST, still can't believe our MSD decisions. If he gets a contract why didn't we take 18 month Carmichael?
Borlase DELIST, just hasn't shown he'll be up to senior standard
Newchurch DELIST, suspect there's something unfixable in his game they don't like, soft?
Ben Davis DELIST, still shaking my head he's survived six seasons, must have photos

We have to get serious, we're wasting seasons, be inventive, draft picks are over rated!

I think Rowe is gone assuming the Rankine storie are true. We have plenty of players in that role and likely to need the list spot unless Crouch Himmelberg and Sholl are actually leaving

Almost certainly gone either way. Although ”good at football” it shows a certain level of athleticism is needed, certainly for a small pressure and crumbing forward. His one wood of the “Selwood duck” has also been outlawed now.

Which (if any) contracted players do we think will/should go?

Crouch obviously. We'll probably pay his salary and get a third round pick in return.

Sholl seems on the outer and can't get selected despite his SANFL form. We probably only get a third round pick in return which would be a poor result.

Seedsman? I assume he'll either retire or go on the inactive list.

Brown? Long term groin, achilles and knee injuries in successive years, and his form has fallen off a cliff. Should retire.

Sloane I assume will go on.

McPherson and Hamill are injury plagued but I assume they will go on. Moose almost a certainty to be delisted at the end of 2023.

Worrell has copped the Ben Davis treatment and might leave for greater opportunities. I'd be pissed if we lost him, especially with Doedee a good chance to leave as a FA next year.

McAsey also a chance to be traded back to Victoria. Would be lucky to get a future 4th round pick for him.

Anyone else?

I don't think we will pay Crouch's full wage if he leaves. I think the most we would pay would be 30%.
I'm not sure about Sholl, I think we will trade him if there are any interested parties.
Seedsman I think will definitely retire this year.
I think they will keep Brown as backup.
McPherson I think they will delist or trade end of 2023. He may request a trade I hope.
Sloane isn't going anywhere and will retire end of 2023.
Hamill will go on but I feel he should retire.
Worrell needs to be recontracted asap and hopefully he doesn't request a trade.
Hinge we need to recontract and hopefully doesn't request a trade.
Ben Davis is a delist.
Rowe a delist.
Berg will probably be traded.
Turner is a delist.
Newchurch should be recontracted.
Borlase is backup or a delist.
Frampton is backup or may request a trade.

I also reckon it’s why Newchurch isn’t contracted. With Rachelle and Rankine, Murphy and McHenry contracted, it is difficult to see a spot for Newchurch.
I would really have liked to see Newchurch at AFL level as I reckon he has plenty of talent and he could make a real impact. If we don’t contract him I hope he gets a shot at another club.

I will be amazed if Newchurch isn't at the Crows next year ....all & sundries realise, his speed & evasiveness is a need for this list .....just developing nicely IMO

All and sundries except for the coaches it would seem.
He's within his rights to look to a club that will develop his career.
Isn't that what we're doing ? ......I'd suggest it is, given he can't be a ghost for 80% of a game in the AFL .....gotta learn consistency in games and from game to game .....OR, the system spits him out quickly

Why the rush ??

He's doing more currently than what Charlie Cameron was doing in the sanfl.
His development could have been fast tracked with a game or two, given him a taste and motivation to have a big preseason WITH us.

i’ll be disgusted.. totally and utterly disgusted if they dont give newchurch another contract.

I reacon Newchurch in a forward line getting mentored by mcadam, tex, fog and Rachele/rankine (whilst these two themselves are alternating between forward and midfield) would have a shitload of potential and would bring the absolute best out of the kid.

and yes, as you said, his type of speed and evasiveness is something we have been lacking for a while now.

kid kicked a really nice goal on the w/e..
