I do like your thinking. It's what rebuilding teams should do - target the young talent at the top teams who can't get the game time they want.

In terms of Brisbane, they are going to add Dunkley and Ashcroft. Both will want some midfield time.

For me that opens up opportunities for players to be poached, such as:

Zac Bailey
Jarrod Berry
Ely Smith

even someone like Rhy Mathieson at 25 years old could add something to our list.

Zac Bailey is the one I would target though.
Zac Bailey is an outright gun, though not exactly the proven elite mid that everyone on these forums would be looking for

Berry would add nicely to our midfield mix, as a bigger body, though it's hard to see him leaving the Lions

Both might be tough to get, but if they find themselves sitting on a HFF and getting frustrated very soon.

If we think Bailey can be an elite mid, then a decent sized offer could get him.

Rhys Matheison?..

A complete and utter hack.

And a ducker and diver to boot..

No thanks

Ely Smith will probably be delisted. So if you wanted him itd be a free hit
Can't see Jarrod Berry going anywhere, He seems very invested in Brisbane. He also can't really play full time midfield minutes because his shoulders are buggered. Which is why he tends to play more on the wing.
Hard to see Bailey going either. Not sure if his preference is to play more midfield, because he seemingly enjoys playing HF and floating in the middle for a bit. But who knows if you offered him enough cash maybe?

Mathieson would be gettable. He's mostly seen as too good for VFL not quite good enough for AFL. Probably not the quality you want.

I think Dev Robertson would be a good target, and might struggle to get games with the incoming of Dunkley/Ashcroft.

We don't really have too much other midfield depth. You wouldn't want Lyons back. Tom Berry has shown signs in the VFL. Tunstills also shown signs in the VFL but hes only 2021 draftee.

I think the Fogarty rule should be in place for Murray. I.e. leave him in one position and let him develop his game.

Especially as there is a serious KPD in him, once he finds the confidence to convert some of his spoils into intercept marks. The rest of the game is there for it.
butts and murray dont fit in same team IMO

robertson yes
ely NO

The crows won't pony up for Rankine.
Hope so, they shouldn't
A deal will get done around pick 13-18 as long as we can sort out the trade with another club.
Yes this is what we should be aiming for, and is fair
Bruhn hasn't really shown much so I don't think gws will get much more than around pick 20-25.
Agree
Taranto is worth around pick 10-12 and Hopper likewise.
Disagree, Both should be top 5 minimum. Taranto was pick 2, has developed nicely and shown far more than rankine for example. Hopper was pick 7 and looks good and is contracted

Deven Robertson - No

Ely Smith - No

We don't need more "grunt" we need class and skills.
Ok, after the process of elimination, Zac Bailey it is.
Well done everyone. We did the hard yards. Now I'll just pass that over to Reid and he can make the arrangements.

Of course now that I've invented this trade in my head and spent no time working out how the trade will work, I will be outraged and consider it a complete failure if it doesn't happen.
i feel like I should have my own AM radio show in the afternoons.

Eh? How don't they? They're two young KPDs who are starting to build a pretty solid partnership together. Both have a fair bit of development left as well and Worrell/Doedee are a solid support cast to build a top tier defense out of.

The next step in Murray's development is to find ways to impact the game more from an offensive standpoint. His defensive work is already very good, now it's a matter of finding the ball more in defence and using it to his advantage

Yup, that's the game for Murray. Morphing away from a shutdown D into a J.McGovern type who can handle a 2nd key forward and provide a fair bit of offensive drive. He certainly has the marking power to do it.

So Brown out, Frampton out, Davis out

We've likely got 1 FS which is a pick. I wonder if that means not many more list changes?
It means we probably need to look at drafting another small/rebounding defender, especially with Hamill's concussion issues and McPherson being just about ready for the glue factory.

Brown & Frampton still leaves us 1 short of the AFL's mandatory minimum 3 ND selections... and it's well short when you consider that we need a position for Rankine.

Don’t Rookie upgrades count?
Yes... but you need senior list vacancies for them to fill. Brown & Frampton alone = 2 vacancies. That's enough for the rookie upgrades - but leaves no further vacancies for a ND selection, or Rankine.

At a minimum we need to create 4 senior list vacancies - 3 for ND/rookie upgrades, 1 for Rankine. Note that 1 of those vacancies could come from changing from a 37/5 list structure to 38/4 (could, but probably won't).

No it doesn't with Rankine coming in we just play Lachie Murphy in Brown's role....it's what got him on our list in the 1st place.

What's more I'd be of the opinion Lachie will never be questioned again as being in our best 22 even by his detractors.

How do they not fit?

Because they're both very similar, they're both largely nullifying key defenders without great attacking games, and you'd prefer your 2nd key defender to be more of a rebounding threat.
