I get that. But Brisbane is the exact opposite of those two locations.

Money and potential success were the reasons he joined.
No reason why we couldn't convince someone else the dream.
Yeah, I'm just trying to get at Neale not a good example in discussions whether we have a better chance at getting someone here just cos they're SA born.

The height thing is overplayed because it’s the trendy thing. Absolutely it would be handy if he was 5cm taller, but it’s not the end of the world and he can still be an elite inside bull without it. Miller (178), Neale (177), Merrett (179), Walsh (184), Parish (180), Boak (184), Adams (181), Kelly (183), Gaff (183), Sidebottom (184), Edwards (182) all made the AA team at similar heights to Berry (182).

Why not?

His tackling is elite all ready.

His contested ball winning ability is very good, with definitely the potential to be elite.

He is extremely hard to push off the ball and consistently breaks/stands up in tackles, and is almost always able to get an effective kick or handball away.

He has the ability to burst away from stoppages and I expect we will see more and more of this in the coming years.

All of these things I think he doesn’t better than Matt can.

His disposal needs improvement at times, but name an elite inside mid who you can’t say that about at times? He certainly has the ability to be a lot more damaging than Matt.

He doesn’t have the ability to find the cheap touches the way Matt can, but frankly, do we want him to?

Perhaps I’m being biased but I see him as an elite prospect. He’s arguably the best midfield prospect in his draft so far.
Out of that list I will agree touk miller being the ideal inside mid the others you have mentioned are hybrids.

AFL makes changes to draft points system
Nov 18, 2020
...
Under normal AFL rules, clubs who are matching bids for northern Academy, Next Generation Academy and father-son players are only allowed to use draft points from the amount of picks that is equal to the number of their available list spots.
...
But clubs will not be bound by that rule at next month's national draft after the League gave clearance for clubs to use points from draft picks even if they are not going to use the selections to draft players.
...
The AFL will revert to its usual rule next year, having allowed the clubs a one-off change given some had prepared for matching bids by already trading out future selections during last year's exchange period.

As I said... they promised the rule change would revert to normal from 2021. Whether or not it did, is anyone's guess.

Remember, the AFL lies as often as Gil the Dill moves his mouth.

If we offer an A grader North of 800k (up to a million depending on who it is), and they only get offered 650k at their current club over 5 years that's anywhere between 750k and 1.7 million extra reasons to take it seriously.

I remember looking at articles listing the picks clubs had going into the 2021 draft and they seem to be not many, likely aligning with the number of free list spots clubs had.

What do you mean by hybrid?

Neale, Adams, Boak all predominantly inside players.
With outside capabilities.. they would smoke berry on the outside no disrespect to my man berry but he is more inside than outside and the players you mentioned are more outside options than berry. They have both, hence hybrids berry is a wrecking ball those other players possess the outside that I think berry, lacks speed and evasiveness.

Wouldn’t say Berry is lacking in the speed department, he’s shown at times in ‘22 that he can get good separation from the contest

No of course not but in terms of an outside mids breakaway speed there are better outside options compared to berry.. his strength is his power and wrecking ball crash and bash the packs nature. he’s the guy you want to get the handball out to a Dawson who has that breakaway speed I’m referring to hence why I want Dawson out of the backlines he is wasted down there and dare I say we are not only wasting him there but opening him up to possibly unnecessary injuries. Honestly the amount of unnecessary hospital balls he stood under this season made me hold my breath he doesn’t need that we need his speed and attack on a wing or outside run in the midfield for short bursts not standing under a hospital ball and getting jumped into

I checked AFL.com.au to see if an unusual major trade dropped.

Never forget the time SOS crashed Bigfooty with Stocker, lol..
I have found that sorting the AFL subreddit by newest posts will provide more accurate results as the AFL site announcements are delayed sometimes.

Was going to say the same. Hes right about his evasion skills though.
I think he needs to realise there are more options than plow forward. Needs to work on his run and carry and needs to tidy up his kicking, but he has the foundation right and there's no reason these other parts don't come with experience/self confidence. Oh, and some decent Coaching.

His kicking has already improved over the past 2 seasons. A fair bit more composed than when he started.

Should add a solid Dont Argue to his game. Reminds me of a rugby player.

Yep, his kicking has absolutely improved over his time at the club. Needs to learn to steady a bit more when he has space, but no reason it can’t continue to improve

I would say the knock on Berry at the moment is, his ability to accumulate, his disposal and his hurt factor. I feel confident he will improve but by how much im not sure. If he improves out of sight in even just one of those areas, we will have some sort of player on our hands.

Didn't we try that on with Jeremy Cameron a few years back?

3.02 20m is pretty good and as he's gained in confidence the burst speed has become more evident.

He’s in his second year. So what he’s not the complete package.

He’s shown signs that he can develop an outside game.
