Probably Rachele/Thilthorpe. I doubt there is a price where North considers letting JHF go without either being involved at this point.

I like the idea of mid in mid out, they get a high pick plus a reliable ball winner to feed their other midfield talent. Plus they can have something else, but not those 2. Could swapping our first fir their second next year be enough sugar?

so how much extra on top of 5 and one of those mids would be required you reckon? Is it in any way closeish?
Technically speaking we could get close to “fair value” but I think north would be desperate to hold and would ask for something insane.
They would have to be shot scared of losing him next year to pull the trigger now.

Lets say the shoe is on the other foot (i.e. we're last and in the middle of an unmitigated disaster, i.e. 2020 like, they're 14-15th and having a stagnant year), would you swap a disgruntled Rachele for lets say 2019 version of Ben Cunnington (North are that garbage I had to resort to this to find someone comparable to Laird), pick 5 and upgrading pick 19-21 to ~ pick 4-8?

The problem with going for JFH, much like anyone going after Rachele/Thilthorpe from us at the moment is you've also got to counteract the hope side of things. For Hawks to get the rights to select Hodge, they had to give up a CHB on the verge of superstardom in Croad plus sweeteners as an example. At this point, I don't see how you get around that without those two being somewhere in this deal, especially as right now, the only thing North can sell to their members is the hope that the next year/decade isn't as much of a shitshow as 2022.

They will consider if JHF asks to be traded. That is the first point of the operation, not Adelaide asking.

What I said is assuming JHF asks to move.

North are hanging up the phone at the first mention of his name otherwise. They can't afford to trade him.

Sure, I get that, I guess the power is with the player (and manger), now more than ever.

There is an argument going around that we are too small.

Hately was quoted to be 189 when he is 191, and these people say we are midfield of short people.

Turner is 185, not small, and people say we should have got Carmichael.

Everyone is raving about Culley like the next Bont, but he wasn't good enough last year and had played a few games well as an over ager in the under 18s pushing into the midfield.

We know that tall midfielders develop later than small mids, think Callahan and Bont coming on late in their draft year, or cripps and danger later top picks, fyfe second round, Petracca taking years to come on, etc.

So why do we forget about Cook (190) and Nankervis (191) playing SANFL footy?

Comparisons between Carmichael or Culley are mistaken, they should be with Nankervis.

Our midfield, while not great, needs players across different heights. Neale (178) is considered the most in form player this year.

So being small is not the problem, being good is.

Berry (182), Soligo (180), Keays (185), Hately (191) is not a small midfield, it's well balanced.

The problem is Crouch is rubbish, Laird hacks the ball, and Sloane is slow. In 2 years time none of these guys will be on the list, Laird can go back if he is.

We also have Shoenberg, Nankervis, Cook, Pedlar and Taylor.

JHF (185) or similar (trade ir draft)is a desperate need, no doubt we need an absolute top end talent, and once we get Thilthorpe into ruck we will be done.

When Thilthorpe goes into Ruck and Walker retires whom will be our two tall forwards and don’t say Fog .

Surely Dylan Stephens would be high on our radar right now.

He signed a 2 year extension last offseason, however hasn't played since round 3. Quick and also a good user of the footy. Is more of an outside midfielder who would compliment our current group.

Be interesting to see what Sydney would demand as compensation.
Had Stephens in my supercoach hoping to make cash off him. He's a spud and was out of my team early days. Longmire hasn't played him since he put in a putrid performance.

Mid in for mid out is good thinking. They don't win enough first ball and we have three capable accumulators.

How do people think Hawthorn's list rebuild is going?
Real good. Because they’ve made great drafting decisions. Will Day a perfect example. DGB will be a defensive star. Newcombe an astute — but obvious — MSD pick too, unlike our putrid, trying to be tricky Turner pick. And a coach who actually plays the kids and moves older players out of the midfield to give said kids a go.

At the moment, it's going pretty ok, but it's early days and it doesn't take a whole lot for a rebuild to spiral out of control (I.e. North).

They look like us last year. Some good wins against good sides in Geelong and Brisbane but are running out of steam now.

Astute ND picks with a number of them looking high quality, cunningly got a ND top 10 quality player in Newcombe via the MSD, kept a lot of quality mature players to give the rebuild resilience and direction, playing kids in key roles rather than sandbagging with older players to avoid losses.

Hawks building a list of finals quality kids.

IMO Hawthorn is doing an excellent job of rebuilding - why do you ask?

I agree with Turner, I don't know that he was a real need for the club. On the midfield, I was pleased until a couple of weeks ago when Hately and Berry were getting good CBA numbers, but Crouch coming back in is a real step backwards in their development.

That said, both are really showing something at AFL level.

I know there's a lot of critism of our drafting/recruitment, and yes, there are some players we'd love to have another go at. But there's some great picks in there too, they just need to continue to get games. I think the blow are unanimously liked on this board.

Berry
Hately
Cook
Rachelle
Soligo
Thilthorpe
Hamill
Butts
Parnell

That's half a team 22 or under who look like they'll make it. We just need to get games into them.

Then throw in Jones, Keays, Dawson, Schoenberg, Sholl and Doedee who have all shown they are going to be decent AFL players and are 25 or under.

We certainly need 2 or 3 tall, fast line breaking mids in the next couple of years before we can really start to talk about topping up then with established players.

Mutineer which points are you actually disagreeing with it or is just any criticism of our drafting?

Sorry EC I'm not playing your games with drafting or selection ever again. No point because I see things differently to you and have no desire to sidetrack the thread with your usual back and forth.
