How do people think Hawthorn's list rebuild is going?
Nothing special. They've got 1 more win than us and at the moment still have barely started the hard stuff of a rebuild, either that or they're much further advanced than we are. 50% of their team is over 100 games, well, 10 over 100 and 12 under it based on last weeks team. By contrast we are 4 and 18. The average age of their team is more than a year higher than us and their average games is 30 ahead of ours.

Collingwood's doing better than I thought, but likewise, their stats suggest someone either already well ahead in their rebuild or the worst of it yet to come.

Gold Coast and Kangaroos are like us in the middle of genuine rebuilds. Both have 20 games on us and at least half a year average age. GC only has 2 wins more than us. Probably doing same as us pound for pound.

The best looking rebuild/reboot at the moment is probably Freo. They had 16 under 100 gamers on the weekend and knocked off Bris after beating Melb. Not a bad effort.

Actually, on this subject, how many of the list management genuises on the board picked Freo to be doing as well as they are?? How many of last weeks squad are endlessly lauded on here (Serong and thats about it right?) like the GWS high draft pick / talent fap fest (looks like its now going to be a hawks fap fest)??

I agree with Turner, I don't know that he was a real need for the club. On the midfield, I was pleased until a couple of weeks ago when Hately and Berry were getting good CBA numbers, but Crouch coming back in is a real step backwards in their development.

That said, both are really showing something at AFL level.

I know there's a lot of critism of our drafting/recruitment, and yes, there are some players we'd love to have another go at. But there's some great picks in there too, they just need to continue to get games. I think the blow are unanimously liked on this board.

Berry
Hately
Cook
Rachelle
Soligo
Thilthorpe
Hamill
Butts
Parnell

That's half a team 22 or under who look like they'll make it. We just need to get games into them.

Then throw in Jones, Keays, Dawson, Schoenberg, Sholl and Doedee who have all shown they are going to be decent AFL players and are 25 or under.

We certainly need 2 or 3 tall, fast line breaking mids in the next couple of years before we can really start to talk about topping up then with established players.
Part of me hopes the only reason they are playing Crouch is to maintain 'some' value come trade time. I don't think he will be worth much, BUT, he will be worth less if he remains in the SANFL.

If I had a choice though, I'd still prefer to play the kids instead of Crouch.

Tom Boyd was worth Ryan Griffin and pick 6 after 1 year in the system. Surely for JHF our first rounder and a player would do it is anyone off limits our only pre-agents are crouch and Doedee. Maybe crouch and a another. But would we say no if they asked for Doedee and our first pick?

Deal!

As much i like Doedee, we would swap him & our 1st for JHF.

Crouch wouldn't have much value at the moment.

Agreed, you’d almost throw crouch in as a sweetener try and get someone else out of north like Powell/CCJ who seem well out of favour. And if Doedee was to depart for JHF then Gould up in Sydney wouldn’t be the worst option to fill the void left depending on the Worrell situation.
Another couple i’d look at after JHF would be Poulter at Collingwood and Hollands at Gold Coast, the Suns won’t be able to pay everyone if they do re-sign Lukosius and Rankine.
Anyone heard any more on the Sholl to Carlton whisper that was going around a couple of weeks back?

Lastly, if you can get this side on the ground for 2023, I'll give you the following year to solve CHB. [emoji16][emoji16]

Thinking of the CHB, has anyone looked at how Sam Skinner is going at Port?

He seems to make the emergency more often than not and has played a couple of games.

Would be a free hit, 198 defender, played for Brisbane before playing well at South.

Freo have a stack of key defenders... so reckon we could target one of them.

Technically speaking we could get close to “fair value” but I think north would be desperate to hold and would ask for something insane.
They would have to be shot scared of losing him next year to pull the trigger now.

A part of me thinks the AFL wont allow him to leave. It would be the beginning of the end for the Kangaroo's. Not just the player but the optics.

They can't stop it happening. The league needs a 4 year minimum period for first round draftees. If he leaves that will give them authority to implement it. I like it as clubs need some certainty.

Better than ours. Seem to be building a solid defence. Midfield is their concern but Newcombe is a great get.
Their backline is pretty mature, with Hardwick, Sicily, Impey, Scrimshaw, Frost and Haritgan. Even Morrison is 23. So it doesn't seem to be where they are playing their "kids". It's similar to us with Brown, Smith, Dawson and Doedee.

I think clubs need to be better at not entering into trade negotiations for contracted players they want to keep, as well as picking up players in the PSD even if they elected to go elsewhere.

Correct they can't stop it, there are legal ramifications and if the player is forced into a four year contract against there will and they actually want to live and work in another state they must be allowed to leave.

IMO signing a contract should be worth more than it seems to be, but I don't agree with mandatory contracts lasting years.

Clubs need to take care who they draft, like it or not, and North should have taken the deal offered last year.

The AFL can't over complain about the North poor management decisions when they sign them all off, but North have cut too hard and made poor draft decisions.

They should have taken McDonald in 2020, and should have taken Rachelle 2021 and taken the Adelaide 2022 (pick 4-6).
