We tried it a few times - he had the worst one on one numbers in the AFL for a while there.

Had been much better in the role at WB, but if you visit their board you'll see they're absolutely crying out for more KPD talent. That seems to be their fans' main trade target.
And yet I believe we have far more pressing needs mid- forward

Another weekend where our side's average disposal cost the team a win, highlighted by old Kane Cornes. But he has a point given the stats.

When we have Laird, Keays, Hately and Berry as the primary individuals delivering into the forward line we are in trouble. It's a priority to have Soligo, Dawson, Hinge, Parnell, Schoenberg and even the likes of Davis and Jones who are all generally near disposed of the ball forward of centre.

Laird is a great winner of the ball but needs to be handing off to another and playing defensive side of centre. Keats was used up forward on the weekend, I liked that. Hately needs to interchange with Laird and Berry I think can clean up his disposal.

So it means moving the players around and getting these other players up to wing, centre and HF. Otherwise we will have no hope for a while.
Agree mostly other than Jones

His turnover under min pressure in the 3rd quarter is a pattern and helped melb run away with momentum on sat

Crouch to Port ?? ......with outside types in Rozee & Butters, and inside bull Drew .....seems a good fit
Won’t happen

Port like dynamic midfields - have never looked like wanting to replace Rockliff since he retired

Went to draft last year and drafted Sinn ( outside ) , Jackson ( outside ) and Burgoyne ( outside ) the draft after losing Rockliff

Carmichael's stats vs Richmond VFL last week 25 Disposals 18 kicks 7 handballs 4 tackles 5 marks 0.3 taken from the VFL app (3rd VFL game)

Turner's stats vs Glenelg SANFL 24 Disposals 12 Kicks 12 Handballs 1 mark 1 tacle 3 clearances 5 i50's 2 r50's 1.0. (1st SANFL game for the Crows)
Its probably not fair to compare these lads current form/games given Turner has only just returned from a foot injury..

But none of this is what pisses most of us off..

Whats infuriating is that we couldve had both these players..

Carmichael with our first and turner with our second as no other team was even going to pick Turner.

Its yet another bewildering decision from this moronic club.. and if Carmichael turns out to be a bloody good player our supporters should rightly be flipping ropable.

I would have loved if we did this

Going to hurt if we missed out , only time will tell

Yeah this is a good way of thinking about it. Surely we could have made the list spot math work

The club can be very rigid in their thinking, from coaching to list management

Close friend of mine played with Carmichael. Thought he was a chance to be pick up by the crows but is happy he's at Collingwood as he's a Collingwood fan.

Maybe crows take a preference over players that loved crows growing up from a retention point of view. Turner being a massive crows fan.

If we're drafting players based on who they supported we're cooked

You are really relying on the stats of ONE game? Cmon Bicks, you’ll go to any lengths to defend Hamish.

I agree that Nick's and Godden most likely would have been pushing for us to select him, but Hamish would have still had to have reviewed hours of footage of each of our main targets as he would be the one making the final call on who we decided to select.

I am not writing off Turner, he hasn't even played a game for us yet. I really hope he turns out to be a good pivk. I am more annoyed with the fact that we could have had both Carmichael and Turner. Just seems like a big fail not to use the first pick on someone else and then use the 2nd pick on Turner.
We've only got so many list spots and there will be 2022 draftees our recruiting team will have been closely tracking at least since U16's.

Mattaes Phillipou in particular would be one such player and I'd predict he'll be very close to the top of our recruiters draft board if we're looking at bigger mids that can do damage forward as well.

You know and I know Nicks and Godden would have had major input in Turner coming to us....both were at the game when he played so well against us.

These are not players Hamish would have been tracking closely the last couple of years.

Turner's 89% disposal efficiency at SANFL in 2022, pretty decent DE for a midfielder and likely a reason why we were attracted to him.?
Input but don’t make the decisions. This is just nonsense excuses Bicks

And you're relying on what?, compare Turner's 2022 with Carmichael's 2022 and get back to me....I can tell you there's very little difference.

I'll even supply the links..

That's basically what we relied on to draft him. A big performance against us

Hamish s**t drafting ;)

And the fact a number of teams spoke to Carmichael and we were the only ones to talk to Turner

Of course you've watched every game both players have played no doubt...

Any fair minded person would at least wait for a season or two before passing judgement on either player.

Not sure but flags aren't won by half arseing a rebuild, and not stockpiling sufficient elite talent to sustain you.

We haven't nailed the 2018-2019 drafts so essentially we have only really had two years of draft picks.
Not enough.
Trading picks for JHF does the job too.

Exactly this. The last two drafts look promising but 2018-19 have pushed our timelines out a couple of years

Spot on !!! .....as good a player Dunkley is ...he's not the class, or possessing the finishing skills we're chasing

Clubs make the huge mistake, of chasing good players, simply because they're available .....not because of team need / balance

Did WBD need Treloar .....did ESS need Shiel ? ......answer is an obvious no

Wow, for all the incessant whinging that goes on in these threads, and this issue gets NO traction.

I am well and truly pissed off we didn't get this bloke.

Does him playing make that worse though? The reason you were pissed off to begin with was because this was inevitable, him debuting shouldn't make it worse. And he'd not be debuting if he was with us, that's a certainty.

Hamish wouldn't have had a lot to do with Tuirner or Carmichael, that would be down to our SANFL scouts. Hamish is Victoria based. I don't know who our SANFL head scout is, Steve McCrystal used to do our VFL mature age scouting. But hey bring Hamish into everything as you do if it makes you feel good.

so Hamish wouldn't have been involved in this decision at all? Woukdnt have popped a tape or 2 in the old VHS machine.

18:7 to 12:12 is the only stat that really matters there.
