I have heard through a player manager that JHF is definitely wanting to come home. He also said that the Crows are going hard for him. North want a top pick (I’d suggest our pick 3) and a player. Other than Rachele I can’t see who they would want.
Not sure how todays coaches announcement at North will change his thinking.
I also heard (different source) that Port are keen on Dunkley. They think it’s the edge they need to give the 2023 flag a real push.

Standard operating procedure for Port there.

I'm not sure Dunkley is really what we need.

Yes, he's 190cm plus, but his K:HB ratio and DE% are both worse than Laird and Keays.

We need some good ball users with speed, not accumulators who aren't great kicks. We already have a few of them.
oh my flipping god I am sick of hearing this Disposal Efficiency (DE%) bullshit stat being trotted out to compare players and, in particular, to somehow claim keays and Laird arent shit midfielders..

some here were even using it to compare keays to Oliver and Petracca earlier on in the season. ben keays isnt even in the same stratosphere as those two lads. its simply delusional to even try and make the comparisons.

its utter bullshit.. a totally flipping meaningless stat that still no one, even after I have asked several times, can even explain just exactly how it is measured..

what constitutes an efficient disposal?.. how is it measured?.. and how is it consistently interpreted by the blokes taking this stat?..

no one seems to flipping know.

yet many here cling to this stat to make apologies for keays and laird’s unbelievably shithouse use of the football and claim they aren’t as bad as they look to the naked eye.

I’d rather just go by what I see when I watch the games thank you.. and when I watch Dunkley I don’t see him doing the same shithouse panic kicks to the moon and back, the jam it on the boot and hope kicks to no one, kicks that arent anywhere near the advantage of his team mates, pointless handballs, handballs to the feet of his ruckman that I constantly see keays and laird do week in week out.

and if we wanna talk stats lets look at some goal stats.. you know, those 6 point things that actually win you flipping games..

Dunkley - 13 goals and 11 goal assists this year..

Laird and Keays combined - 10 goals and 11 goal assists.

Dunkleys twice the flipping player!.

i’d pick Dunkley in a team I was selecting in an instant over Laird and Keays..

laird and keays are only just barely AFL standard mids. they are the main cogs in the comps worst midfield combination. the sooner the club realises this, and takes steps to purge them from the midfield, the better.

Kicking efficiency 58%
226 metres gained average.

For what we would have to pony up I would want better.

Other than height he offers mostly what we already have.

We need a dynamic mid to add to our mix....Dunkley is not that.

The Port rumour about Dunkley makes sense to me.

For JHF I think our first is a given.
For players Thilthorpe, Rachele, Fogarty, Soligo, Dawson, Butts and Doedee off limits. The rest take who you want.

McAsey wouldn't get it done.
Keays, Laird, Berry might.
O'Brien might interest them with Goldstein nearing retirement. Then we go get Grundy as a short term solution maybe.

Factor in trade capital from Sholl.

Why is Doedee off limits?

Plays a very replaceable position and is not an AA quality player. Free Agent next year too.

Butts wouldn’t be off the table, for mine. Doedee possibly in that category, too, but as you say, it might be best to keep a bit of continuity of the leaders at our club

People on here might laugh, but with Goldstein retiring, they might look at O'Brien in a deal if they think what they have is not going to get the job done going forward. For us I would be happy to see which rucks are not getting a run at other clubs and see if a future 3rd could snare one. So in that hypothetical, could a deal for JHF - if they truly are looking for a player be our pick 3 or 4, O'brien and possibly our future 2nd. Who knows but if we could get close to that to get him, then that would be worth it

JHF to Crows for our 1st rounder this year plus Crouch (they sorely need experience all over the park) Literally throw whatever steak knives they want on top of that. Luke Brown? Lachie Murphy? ROB??

Dunkley to Crows for our 2023 1st rounder plus a swap of back ended picks to make sure we're allowed to trade our 1st rounder.

Grundy to Crows for a salary dump and negligible draft pick.

Offload ROB, Crouch and whatever other spuds we've got on the list.

Don't tell me we wouldn't be a better squad with those players coming in. Can you imagine a fit Grundy feeding JHF for the next 5 years?

id piss laird back off to half back..

move crouch on for a bag of stale chips to any club that wants him.. if no one does.. play him in the sanfl as a “top up” player..

Keep keays in the middle but with the ultimate goal of replacing him as soon as possible and getting him out of the side altogether.

If JHF becomes a chance at all we need to go all in for him.

If Dunkley is looking to move to Adelaide we need to move mountains there too but use our ladder position (and the PSD) to threaten the Bullies and try and get him cheaper.. cheaper than we paid for Dawson. an early second maybe.
I would love to get both JHF and Dunkley in the off-season, but is this even remotely possible even if both agree to come here?

We would have to pony up likely our first round picks for this year and next year just for JHF - how do we add Dunkley without any other draft capital?

Berry ain't going anywhere...we're rebuilding and you don't include the very player that would partner JHF if by some miracle he landed with us.

Grundy seriously?, another player that appears on the decline and 29 at the start of next season....That's certainly not looking to the future.

Grundy has Port's missing piece written all over him. Would be even funnier after getting rid of Ryder and Ladhams in recent years.

Agree, just do something, go all in because this rebuild has stalled with the club still in Wooden Spoon territory.

If JHF is truly done with Norf, they will realise it's better to grab our first and be done with it all. That could give them picks 1, 2 (PP) and 4 in this years draft. WCE with pick 2 will almost certainly go for WA talent Hewett so Norf could snare the best three Victorians, now that's a win for them.

Dunkley, Dogs will have to play ball if he wants to come to Adelaide, we have PSD threat again so our second pick.

laird and keays are only just barely AFL standard mids. they are the main cogs in the comps worst midfield combination. the sooner the club realises this, and takes steps to purge them from the midfield, the better.

An effective disposal is one where the intended target retains possession, or travels more than 40 metres to a contest that isn't clearly outnumbered by the opposition. Agree, it's wanky, but probably for different reasons.

Defenders always have crazy high DE %s due to the high volume of uncontested switching/build up play they engage in and the amount of space they have ahead of them (and usually time) to make a decision. Midfielders rarely do due to the extra pressure of their disposals + less space ahead of them to dispose into. Jayden Short is a great example - as a defender he was an elite ball user with a crazy high DE. Now as a midfielder he's a bit of a clanger king with low efficiency.

Dunkley rests forward a lot more than Keays/Laird which explains the difference in offensive output. I agree, I'd much prefer Dunkley too. But when your incumbents in that position & role are perfectly fine, I don't think it's worth paying overs to replace them with a similar but better type (i.e. Treloar might have been a better midfielder than Macrae or Libba at the time, but it probably wasn't necessary to bring him in for the sake of a small upgrade in a position they're ok in). And let's not pretend that Dunkley isn't as ordinary at times with ball in hand too. He's just very good defensively.

Crouch and our 1st....start the car, I'd throw in Keays if it gets the deal done.

I would have Berry on the no trade list
