I'd almost be willing to do this:
2023 first, Doedee and Pick 22 to North for JHF and Pick 37
Pick 4 for Rankine and Pick 8
Use Pick 8 on Phillipou / Keeler

The last bit is not out of the ballpark if it was offered next year IF he is OOC AND has asked to come to us and us only. You'd almost be willing to do that?
I think its one of the first times I have seen someone create their own unrealistic fantasy playstation trade and then not even be willing to do it.
We get Rankine and Gold Coast move up only 4 spots in the draft?
We offered 3 first rounders to get JHF and North refused, but they would take a future first, an injury prone 3rd tall and a 2nd rounder?!?!?!

What are north going to do? Say no and we then say ok jason, nominate in the national draft with your contract specified. North are not using their pick 1 or 2 in the national draft to take him..no side ever would use a top draft pick to redraft a player that does not want to be there. Then by being in the national draft, are other sides at the very pointy end going to pass on the top kids in their draft year to risk taking jason who states he wants to only be at Adelaide.
I think north's bargaining position at the end of next year is vastly different from what it was on draft night last year IF jason is OOC

and why would he risk the pre season draft? so north can say stuff you and redraft him at no cost other than salaryHuh? How the hell is JHF nominating for the national draft? If he were to end up in any draft it would be the preseason draft at the end of the 2023 season with no guarantees how the 2023 ladder ends up.
Decent players don't end up in the PSD. You pay up for quality players. I would look at Keays or Doedee to GC for Rankine. Worrell can play the Doedee role just as effectively.and why would he risk the pre season draft? so north can say stuff you and redraft him at no cost other than salary
If he goes the draft option should a deal not be struck with us or anyone else, its ONLY the national draft that he could risk, unless the team he wants to get to has pick 1 in the preseason draft

Players who are out of contract and delisted by their club can nominate for the national draftHow does he get back to the National Draft?
Even as mind boggling as that is - why would he go back to the National Draft even if if it was possible?
Under the current CBA for 2022, top-20 picks who play more than 17 games in their first season are paid a base salary of $140,000 plus $5000 per match in their second season.
He can still nominate a price, as did Tippet and Martin (or has that been removed), if his manager knows that only the club he wants to go to will pay that price then he basically becomes a free agent. How does he get back to the National Draft?

how can he stay on the list uncontracted - its a mandatory delist at the defined date the AFL set for final lists to be lodged. This date is well before the national draft. I mean, do you think he might just hang around the club he no longer had a contract with after that time?If he is playing hardball with North and wishing to leave - why would they delist him when they can just grab him in the preseason draft when the contract falls through?
I feel like I am taking crazy pills.

edit - google afl delisting process
What delisting means. In the AFL, delisting a player means they are not longer required by their club and are cut from the main playing list. Usually delisting happens when a player is out of contract and the club chooses not to renew the player's contract for another year.
So it goes for the player if out of contract and not choosing to take up a contract offer with the club he is leaving
Look - you obviously don't understand the processSame thing happened to Jackson Hately?
GWS wanted to keep him, but he wanted to go. They couldn't agree a contract so he was forced into the PRESEASON Draft where the Crows picked him up.
Look - you obviously don't understand the process
Hately nominated the preseason draft as the crows had pick 1 in it so could not get gazumped by anyone else
If we hold pick 5 or 6 in the preseason draft say, what do you think could happen if a player like Jason Horne Francis lobbed there where the teams picking before us only need to worry about contract price? its why a player can ALSO choose to nominate for the national draft (and its rare) where the RISK for other clubs is on top of the players contract demands is burning their high draft pick to grab a player that does not want to be at their club. What it would mean for the crows is that they would need to draft Jason with their 1st round pick whatever that is but the risk of another side grabbing him would be exponentially less than if he went to the preseason draft because of the cost of the draft pick. It really is that simple.
Luke Ball was a famous example of this and was drafted by Collingwood
All good. I believe they can do as the restrictions on contracts apply to players first entering the national draft. If I can find it I will link to itWell s**t - I stand corrected. It can happen.
Completely forgot about the Luke Ball situation.
Edit - Follow up question: So players can nominate their own salary at the draft
You’re right, not sure why I thought they went in the draftTippett was taken in the preseason draft wasn't he? And thats why he could structure the contract to his advantage.
I just don't see how JHF goes back to the National Draft. Why would North delist him?
Of course he has the option of nominating for the ND. He can nominate for either, or both.Huh? How the hell is JHF nominating for the national draft? If he were to end up in any draft it would be the preseason draft at the end of the 2023 season with no guarantees how the 2023 ladder ends up.
Tippett was banned from nominating for the ND. His circumstances are exceptional.Tippett was taken in the preseason draft wasn't he? And thats why he could structure the contract to his advantage.

He wasn't FORCED to nominate for the PSD, he chose to do so because it provided surety that he would reach his preferred destination. He could have nominated for the ND, had he chosen to do so.Same thing happened to Jackson Hately?

Yes, players who were previously on an AFL list can nominate their salary when nominating for the ND, PSD, or RD (noting that players are automatically nominated for the RD if not selected in the ND).Well s**t - I stand corrected. It can happen.

Wasnt that the Joe Daniher move? Then once he got to Brisbane they restructured his contractWell s**t - I stand corrected. It can happen.

It also had compensation benefits
I doubt gws wanted to keep Hately. They may have acted like they did.Same thing happened to Jackson Hately?
