Because he's never played midfield, and is 25.Why not?
Beveridge has prioritised Macrae, Bont. Macrae is a bit overrated imo.Beveridge has handled Dunkley poorly.
He is very different to Schoenberg in many ways.
Go look at his 2019 year at 22 y.o.
He was on track to being a gun.
191cm 90kg mid averaging almost 30 possessions a game.
No one has suggested he is the messiah. He’s a decent mid that would make our midfield better because it’s one of the worst in the comp. I’m also not suggesting using our first pick on him and I don’t think Port will be either

OR Sam Berry and Luke Pedlar
Can Dawson play that tall midfield finishing role next year ?

If this all holds true and we are not willing to try him somewhere else.....then surely we trade him.Because he's never played midfield, and is 25.
He's also an average kick, slow hand to foot kick, doesn't have any pace.
His true skillset is intercepting.
I find proposing moving players from where they were drafted or recruited for (as that's where they showed the most) rarely works.
Failed tall forwards make good defenders.
Half backers can sometimes play Wing.
Mids can become forwards.
But rarely can taller players, defenders or forwards become good midfielders.
Laird was a junior mid.
I don’t think we will be getting Rankine and Phillipou, I think our first will be gone, so if we don’t make a play for Dunkley we aren’t boosting our midfield.I see where you're coming from, just don't agree.
You agree we need to try and get an elite classy mid as well? How do we get one of these? The same way everyone else got theirs, though the pointy end of the draft.
With Rankine also coming in, I just don't see us being able to get Rankine, Dunkley and possibly Phillipou.

Can't say I can see any glaring deficiences in his game either playing midfield or forward, kicking is above average and quite penetrating, good footy I.Q., elite overhead, good hands inside and worth remembering he carried a niggle (back soreness) through most of the Nationals Carnival that saw him get limited exposure in the midfield. Probably played the best quarter of football by any mid in the draft before copping the back injury early in the 2nd of that game.WaynesWorld19 and Mutineer , what would you say Phillipou's best attributes would be?
I don't think Dawson is a mid. Perfect for wing spending some time forward. Exactly how the swans played him.OR Sam Berry and Luke Pedlar

So this hasn't worked out for SYD and MELB ? .....it's the Paul Roos Coaching ModelAccording to Nix he was going to play it this year. But Nix is a defensive minded hack.
Phillipou should last to pick #6 thoughCan't say I can see any glaring deficiences in his game either playing midfield or forward, kicking is above average and quite penetrating, good footy I.Q., elite overhead, good hands inside and worth remembering he carried a niggle (back soreness) through most of the Nationals Carnival that saw him get limited exposure in the midfield. Problem could be he's gone by our pick remembering he's also one of the youngest players in this draft.
2023 1st + steak knives for RankineI see where you're coming from, just don't agree.

How do we do it? Now that is the hard part, but if we wanted to we’d find a way.
Should he?Phillipou should last to pick #6 though
Bloody oath we should be putting up next years first and bank ourselves to improve. But if Gold Coast don’t accept it I don’t think we will go the PSD routeThis is exactly what I'm talking about with Rankine. There has to be a way we can get Rankine and keep our first this year. This should be the priority. If we're going to lose a first for Rankine, let it be our '23 first.
We are in the right spot for Phillipou, smart play is to bank him, rather than wait another year and hope a guy like him is there at our pick next year.

Oh, shit yes. But if we're picking around Brisbane's pick he's probably gone.Phillipou should last to pick #6 though

Nothing wrong with developing a contested defensive game with kids ....as they get experience, overlay cross tram track gameplan & add the class ......Dawson last year, Rankine next year & hopefully Milera played in a position that suits him .....and that IS NOT in front of the ball
2023 1st + steak knives for Rankine
2022 2nd + Rowe (if the rumours are true) for Dunkley
2022 1st for Phillipou.
Easy.
Brendan Bolton is an apt comparison at this stage. The issue is that we’re developing nothing. He’s scared to attack, you still need to move the ball quickly when you get it. As soon as Nix is under pressure, he stifles our ball movement. He’s no Roos, using him as an example is ridiculous.
The kid sounds spooked enough as it is.. if a trade isnt done I can easily see him just re-signing with the Suns instead of taking a chance in the PSD..Bloody oath we should be putting up next years first and bank ourselves to improve. But if Gold Coast don’t accept it I don’t think we will go the PSD route
AshcroftShould he?
How many tall mid/forwards who are currently all the rage available in this draft especially given his age and potential upside?
Haven't you changed your tune in 2 weeks.Should he?
How many tall mid/forwards who are currently all the rage available in this draft especially given his age and potential upside?
Rankine needs to play the game and say that he won't under any circumstances be at the suns next year. This is exactly what Cameron did under contract I might add.The kid sounds spooked enough as it is.. if a trade isnt done I can easily see him just re-signing with the Suns instead of taking a chance in the PSD..
Which is a fxxking disgusting prospect because the crows have had 3 young player leave for massive contracts (2 of them in cameron and mcgovern) and the crows never attempted to block their trades. They dealt with it and just worked on getting the best deal for them they could even as contracted fxxking players.
I can see the entitled “we deserve everything” flogs that are the Suns thinking “lets refuse to entertain a deal unless its ludicrously overs and try and force it to the PSD” in the hope that if this does look likely that Rankine simply re-signs with them rather than risk going to north or west coast or bombers..
And the anti crows media will cheer it along.
Stop talking shit....Haven't you changed your tune in 2 weeks.
Takes you a while to get on board.
