Season 4 Success GIF by The Office
Lever or BT...

And if I recall correctly we gave Port a future 4th round selection which they didn't even end up using?
So if we can get a pick in the 40's from the Pies, his value has risen over time...

Taylor's time at Collinhgwood he was a Scout, no doubt he'd have had input but Derek Hine is the man that makes the decisions on recruiting and list management up until 2017 not Taylor. Hine was replaced as list manager Ned Guy (that went well)/ Up until now Hine is still the Head of the Pies recruiting department.
I believe you can see a significant change in their recruiting and trading when he arrives and its identical to the strategy he used at Melbourne.

By "red flags" are we talking:

- Drink driving, like Coleman medalist Charlie Curnow or 4x premiership player, 3x All Australian Luke Hodge?

- Domestic violence, cheating and drug abuse like 7x All Australian, 2x premiership player Wayne Carey, often called one of the best players of all time?

- Drug use, like 6x All Australian, Brownlow medal and premiership winning Ben Cousins; or more recently the All Australian small forward Tyson Stengle?

- Coming from a dodgy family, like dual Brownlow medalist, 8x All Australian, 2x premiership player and arguably one of the best players of all time, Gary Ablett Jr; or 3x premiership, 3x Norm Smith, 4x AA, Brownlow medalist Dustin Martin?

- Punching people many times, like 750 goal, 4x All Australian, premiership player Barry Hall?

- Giving heroin to a teenager leading to her death, like the 6th highest goal kicker of all time, 3x Coleman medalist, 4x AA Gary Ablett Sr?

- Assaulting people, stealing and sexual misconduct like 2x Coleman medalist, 3x All Australian Brendan Fevola?

- Cheating on your wife with your mate's partner, like 3x All Australian Garry Lyon?

I'm unhappy with this post.

None of this needed to brought up in a 'red flag' suggestion at all.

Disappointing. Also not relevant really.

It would be brave man to suggest anyone would have any influence over Derek Hine when he's both list manager and recruiting manager which I believe he was during that period.

Melbournes was over a very long time and lots of different people involved. To get a proper perspective break it down to list managers and recruiters and see if there was a fundamental change, in Melbournes case it becomes obvious when looking at list managers. All the guns you mentioned recruited by 1 person. Out of all the duds only Weidemann was recruited by Taylor.

Jason Taylor joins Collingwood and in
2008 Draft Pick 11 Sidebottom, Pick 29 Dayne Beams.
2009 Trade Jolly in and actually draft Ball at pick 30.
2010 Traded in Krakouer, Tarrant, Pick 45 Fasolo, Pick 76 Seedsman
2011 Traded in Elliot, pick 67 Witts
2012 pick 18 Grundy.

Joins Melbourne
2013 Traded in Vince, Tyson, Pick 9 Salem, Pick 57 Hunt, rookie pick, Harmes
2014 Pick 2 Petracca, pick 3 Brayshaw, Pick 40 ANB, traded in a few spuds
2015 Pick 4 Oliver, Pick 9 Weideman
2016 Traded in Lewis, Hibberd,
2017 Traded in Lever, Drafted Spargo, Fritsch, Petty from round 2 onwards
2018 Traded in May, Pruess and drafted Sparrow, Jordan in 2nd round
2019 traded in Langdon, Tomlinson and draft Jackson, Pickett, Rivers

This guy has a method and is bloody brilliant at it, improved the list significantly each year at both clubs through drafting gun mids and trading in everything else.

Only went tall early in the draft after having drafted a gun midfield.
Jason Taylor is a gun, really good at seeing the upside in a player
It's no surprise Melbourne have been able to turn the club around with great drafting

I don't know if its my imagination, but most posters with 119 in their user name seem to be a little off. Apologies for those that aren't.

Whereas there are no posters with Kramer who aren't cool.
Snorts... This is utter nonsense. Ignore immediately 😜😎

Doedee being assessed a 'bust' puts the rest of your analysis in the don't bother basket.
you clearly failed to read and comprehend the comment.

I never said doedee was a bust in the sense of him not being an AFL standard footballer.. but rather he was a bust in terms of being a first round draft pick because its very debatable that he’s worth a first rounder..

Has it been that awesome or have Melbourne been helped by the weight of numbers. They've had many, many trips to the well. More than us.

I saw in here somewhere that someone recently put up a list of Melbourne drafting over the past 10+- years. I seem to remember lot's of unfamiliar names who were their busts.

There's no doubt our drafting has made some bewildering choices which are now hurting us, but I'm not sure we're as shyte as many in here think.

Phil Davis and Jake Lever were alright

Lever definitely goes alright..

but before he did his knee he was touted as a top 3 draft pick.. so it wasn’t exactly a question of being able to recognise the talent in the case of Jake.. it was more taking the risk on a player recovering from a knee recon..

so can haggis really take full credit for that pick?.. he was really picking a top 3 touted player who had slid all the way down into the teens due to injury.

Is he really cat B?

I thought Cat B couldn't play games unless elevated. And he was named as emergency a few times.
They did away with that elevation stuff cause of COVID, rookies can play any time now. Cat B list is mostly a way to have players who don't get drafted from your NGA's on your list nowadays, which is how we got Borlase and Newchurch on there.

Sorry to post here but had to laugh at Gary Buckanara’s steaming pile of an article on your mob today.

They will need to use their first-round pick (currentlypick 5) to secure Rankine or maybe they can see if the Suns are interested in Crouch and a second-round pick.

In what dimensions would a second round pick and Crouch get Rankine 😂

I hope you get him and will enjoy watching him play here!

Deleted my comment cos realised everyone else brought it up.

Well, at least it shows Hamish isn't the most stupid, and can read out names correctly!

You see no red flags in domestic violence or stealing or giving heroin to children?

I mean they are literally red flags for any decent common human being.

I'm sure they could be mitigated, no arguments there. But I mean that whole list is a pretty good representation of a red flag.
