Since Davis was moved to the rookie list I can't really believe the amount of time gets spent on discussing him (not just on BigFooty).

I seriously wouldn't have cared if they left him on the rookie list next year.
You can't be serious. So we should just hand out career contracts and players don't have to be good enough to play AFL?

Teams do occasionally draft AFL standard players in the rookie draft.

McHenry is not quick enough nor big enough for AFL. Full stop.

His ordinary skill level doesn’t compensate for his lack of pace and size, unlike a player like Bulldogs’ Caleb Daniel e.g.

His Mr Furious act simply doesn’t cut it.

A complete draft blunder.
Hindsight is wonderful but no way it was a "complete draft blunder" when he didn't go a hell of a lot earlier than was predicted with several other clubs showing interest as well as us including Richmond and Melbourne. No doubt Richmond would have liked his manic pressure and running ability suited to their game style at the time. I suppose we could have taken this board's favourite at the time Jackson Hately who hasn't done a whole lot yet to get too carried away with.

Jack Ginnivan recent example we had to pay out Bryce Gibbs when we had the first pick in the rookie draft, usually a good chance at a good player.

Ben Rutten, Nathan Bock, Rory Laird, Charlie Cameron, Hugh Greenwood, Alex Keath, Murray, Butts, O'Brien, Parnell, Mattner, Henderson, Jake Kelly, Doughty, Petrenko

Geelong showing zero interest at luring back this particular first round pick local boy of theirs says a lot IMO
If he was picked at 45 or 65, there would be a lot less expectation. The thing that shits me still was we wasted the opportunity to trade inside the top 7 of that draft. Port did it with a worse draft hand. Any single one of the top 7..who were highly touted at the time, would have been vastly better than taking jones AND McHenry. It to me is as bad as the McAsey pick looks to date interms ofmajor draft blunders

Unlikely given Hately went before McHenry.

The smart play would have been to bundle the picks together for pick 5 which ended up being Rozee.
They spent all trade week trying to get pick 3 out of GC for Rankine but they were never going to stump up, and left no time to get a trade done to get Rozee.

That freo pick 6 was always gettable. 8 and 16 and freo would have bitten off our hand compared to what port offered. Then even if we stayed there...come on down ben king

People are just looking to be outaged by everything.

Ben Davis, a solid rookie in a very young squad is just not on my radar.
I think it's just a bit ridiculous to comment on something like this which is legitimate discussion.
A player being around for 6 years and playing 10 games is list mismanagement, a list spot that could have gone to another young player who may or may not make it, but at least a chance.

After three or four years most clubs would have cut losses and reinvested.

I don’t think I’ve seen Taylor play, or if I have, I haven’t noticed him.
this isn’t having a go at you as I am genuinely saying it in a nice way.. but..

I can’t believe people in here don’t watch our sanfl side play.. dont you want to see how the youth can play and how well they are progressing and get excited about it?..

I‘ve actually enjoyed watching our sanfl side over our afl side the last few years!. For obvious reasons and because I am genuinely interested in what we have coming up through the ranks.

and don’t say “I haven’t got the time”…

everyone in here has the time… given how many hours we all spend on here talking shit about footy all year!

as for Taylor… unfortunately he was injured for a lot of the season but he was there in the later part of the season and he’s definitely something to look forward to.. takes the game on and has great skills, is classy and makes good decisions.

Don't take it so personally.

I just dont care about the Davis issue. I made a comment that I'm surprised people do, never said those people can't have that view, this is a forum. I just chipped in with my view.

We did try to get higher up the draft ladder but Rankine and Lukosius were the targets not Rozee and I daresay if either had been there Rozee wouldn't have been at Powa either.

Surely Taylor debuts early next season & plays a good chunk of games.

Looks ready to go.

Haven’t seen a post with any outrage at all. It’s the off-season and we just delisted 3 players, no other news to discuss. You don’t have to post on the board on the topic du jour is beneath your delicate sensibilities.

You do realise recruiters have all the information predraft and are paid to make good decisions, hindsight doesn’t come into it, they can’t hide behind it and you shouldn’t put it up as a defence. Especially given those 4 first round blunders in a short period.
