yeah seems like this is the case. It just seems like this is going to be one of the more disappointing off seasons with no-one decent available.

Goody not changing the game plan is more of a worry to me than which KPF we can or cant pick up. We can easily be a 3 goal better side if he adjusts a few things.

And JVR will be a better recruit than just about everyone going around hopefully.
This is true. JVR and Laurie basically new recruits with time in the VFL under their belts. A senior KPF like Tex would have been ideal next to JVR. Brown should be in the VFL or retired next year.

Really tempted to do the stats but gut feel is we have a significantly better record away from the mcg under Goody.

Saw this on social media, seems like Steven May likes the Grundy trade, maybe Steven May is ITK? Screenshot_20220905-212129_Instagram.jpg

With you there, I'd rather Ratugolea rather than Grundy but is Ratugolea particularly likely to happen? Either way we'd definitely want someone a fair bit younger than grundy to develop into a second ruck who can take over from gawny eventually I'd say
I'd like a fill-in 2nd ruck, to Maxy. for insurance... A bit like we did a few years back when Max injured himself. And we then put Pedo in the ruck, and TMc backup to Pedo.
That's when we found TMc was a useful follower/winger.

I see someone like a Ratugolea, filling that 2nd ruck role, and is useful coming into the packs deep forward. He would be competing against both TMc, and Weide... who I now believe is much more a follower, than a tall-forward.

Weide has shown some good snippets when given extended periods on the ball. But he is still underweight, to play either a follower, or tall forward.
He's a skinny kid who gets pushed off the play.
He needs to hit the Gym bigtime, and put weight on all over, especially upper legs and hip area. I would think around 8Kgs of muscle.

If we recruit a mature follower/tall-forward, It allows us to hit the draft for the NEW Maxy.

Been saying for a while that the seven-year contracts will become more common, and tbh, I'd much rather be committing deals of that length to the likes of Petracca and Oliver, as opposed to Hopper and Taranto.

Just wrapped to see Geelong didnt manage to squeeze another into their bottomless cap.

I see we are one of 3 clubs interested in Meek.

Pointless, doesn't suit us at all unless we are planning to play him at Casey for 20 games a year in a break glass in case of emergency role for Gawn.

Is he a pure ruck then I assume? No ability to play forward?

It's a by product of FA

FA was sold to the average players as helping them, when in fact it was always going to benefit the better players

It's like tax cuts for the rich being sold to the poor as if it will help them out

I'd say all we're doing is keeping a number of different contingencies alive - we need a second ruck of some description and there's nothing to say we've definitively landed on who or what type.

I'd be very open to a pinch hitting forward who can ruck as Max's back up, but the precondition has to be that they've got to actually be a good forward and that doesn't leave many options. Ratugolea definitely worth considering, Amartey as well.

Beyond that, you can see why Grundy is attractive because 2 gun rucks is better than Max and a scrubber who is neither good ruck or good forward. Or the alternative is getting someone like Meek if they cost next to nothing salary or draft picks wise

My personal order of preference would be 1) decent tall forward who can pinch-hit, 2) Grundy, 3) Cheap lumbering second ruck but I wouldn't rule out any of these options working well IF we get our game style and forward entries working properly.
