Weekend Wrap and "Liked, Learned, Hated" right here -- How did tipping go?
Go off queenIf Melbourne cough up a 1st round pick for an ageing Brodie Grundy with a bung ankle then I'll be incredibly angry. Getting Grundy at all in a mind boggling decision. And the fact that we are even interested in him is incredibly unsettling as it shows that someone (most likely Goodwin) has a terrible read on our list.
So let me get this straight, we are going to lose one of the best young players in the league (Jackson) for unders (most likely 2 first rounders) and then potentially spend half of our compensation on a ruckman who does not solve any of our problems? A guy that cannot play any other position (other than ruck) and is considered behind Darcy Cameron? What a great idea. Also, let's play arguably the best ruckman of all time (Gawn) in the forward line for longer, reducing his impact on games in the ruck. Let's play him in a position where he has shown to be one of the worst shots at goal in the afl. Smart. Missing goals is no biggie. Momentum in games don't matter.
Even better, let's pay Grundy 700k and think that we're getting value because the pies pay 300k only to realise that 700k is actually 1.1million a season because it's a 5 year contract and he likely only has 3 years left. The fact that no-one is even mentioning this is highly concerning. Not just from our list management but also from supporters who say 'pies will pay 300k'. Completely overlooking that Grundy only has 3 seasons left maximum.
Tom Mcdonald and Ben Brown are cooked. JVR is showing promise as an undersized key forward. We realistically need to hit the draft hard for 2 years and pick up 5-6 key forwards and hope that at least 2 of them stick. This solution of Grundy and Gawn is the opposite of a solution.
so you'll pay Grundy 1.1m for 3 years to put Gawn forward?Grundy is a better tap ruckman than Gawn, In form he will be palming the ball down our mids throats….. How healthy is he seems to be the main question.

I'm sorry but I'm not sure if you realise what the word troll means? I stand by everything I said. 700k for 5 years equates to 1.1m for the 3 years that Grundy will be playing AFL. Does he solve our drastic key forward issues? no. does he help with sustained success? no. he hinders that.Epic troll post, keep up the good work.![]()

Obviously Collingwood don't rate him if they're willing to spend 1.5m for him to play for another team (300k for 5 seasons)
I I’m no doctor so I’m not sure how bad his injuries are and what the outlook is, but If our medical staff tick it off then I’ll back their judgement.Obviously Collingwood don't rate him if they're willing to spend 1.5m for him to play for another team (300k for 5 seasons)
I think we both know what the word troll means...I'm sorry but I'm not sure if you realise what the word troll means? So do you want Grundy? You want to spend 1.1m over 3 years on him? If you think he'll play until he is 34 then that's fine. I Just don't think he will.
Also, what happened to all of this talk about sustained success? I'm all for winning another flag but not at the expense of killing our future.
I think we both know what the word troll means...
I could see Gawn and Grundy both playing til they are 34, if they give each other a chop out.
We need to strike while the iron is hot, not wait around for possible draft picks to mature, I'd happily sit mid ladder for a while if we can snag some more premierships in the very near future. Premiership windows are a real thing and we would be silly to waste ours.
Is your knock on Grundy purely financial? His ankle injury is completely separate from his previous knee troubles and I'm sure our doctors do their due diligence.
Well I agree in that we need to strike while the iron is hot, but how does grundy help our key forward woes?I think we both know what the word troll means...

How long do you think he'll play for?Don't you know Danster is a doctor with intimate knowledge of Grundy's medical situation and therefore knows for an absolute fact that Grundy only has three years left.

Yeah change of regime, they feel that Cameron/cox combination is good enough and want to free some cash as they feel it's better spent on taranto (which they've cooled on apparently) or Bobby Hill.More so different coaching staff to the one he had when they re-signed him, different priorities.
Treloar hasn't been a bad pick for the Dogs has he after Collingwood did pretty much exactly the same?
Spending up big on grundy is a form of tanking away future success. I'm not against bringing grundy in, but only at 400k a year over 5 seasons, which equates to his market value of about 700k for 3 years. We should just tank for picks again.

No, really?picks outside the first round have a 60% fail rate based on the last 10 years of data across all clubs so 5-6 key forwards drafted becomes 2-3 forwards. We're not going to hit on every pick in the draft.
I'm not even referring to his medical condition. Just the fact that once you hit your 30's it's downhill pretty rapidly. Sure there are exceptions to every rule.I've got no idea. Therefore I'm not qualified to speak in absolutes about his medical situation
