We need to get Grundy in on no more than $400k for 5 years which is really $700k for 3. I’d also look Luke Jackson straight in the eye and tell him that he either signs a 2 year deal with us or he can go to West Coast for pick 2, Fremantle is out of the question.

I’d trade Salem, Hunt, Bowey and Weideman to Collingwood for Maynard, Henry, Grundy and their first rounder coming back.

We should also trade Petty to Port for Georgiades, I’m deeply concerned that crying on the field doesn’t align with the Demon Spirit. We should be able to get Breust and Gunston in as free agents by trading out the likes of Jordon, Tomlinson, Sparrow, Spargo, Harmes and Melksham to create cap space.

This should alleviate our form slump.

Top Kek J.K. LOLed so heartily.

yet 0 genuine key forwards. We can't roll out Ben Brown next season. He's shown this year not to be afl standard.

I didnt include him in our F50 comrade Danster, I said Grundy, Gawn, Jackson, JVR, TMac and one of the six KPFs you pick for JT in the draft.

I’m still convinced he’s a troll or special needs. Doesn’t post anything positive about the team at all.

If you want me to be positive, then lets talk about Matthew Jefferson. A skinny key forward that would be a great inclusion to our list. Or Aaron Cadman, a more ready made key forward. I'd love one of these guys on our list next season. Ideally Jefferson.

Skinny KPF? But I still havent got over Lucas Cook

Grundy has not shown any forward craft. Jackson definitely isn't a forward, JVR looks good, TMac isn't the TMac he used to be and Gawn will never be a dangerous forward given his goal kicking woes despite being such a good mark.

We really need to start getting some key position forwards onto our list. Do you really think we won't target key forwards in the draft?

You want to replace Tmac or Brown with a skinny KPF? That sounds like a sound stratergy.

Either have I. but that's why we have to target several key forwards. We're not going to get them all right. If we don't use a first rounder on Grundy, I'd be going 2 first rounders on key forwards at this years draft and 2 next year also.

No I don't. when did I say that?

I want a 12 year key forward talent to look after our future than a 3 year ruck rental (Grundy) who can't play forward and solve our real problems.

I think free agency and the trade period will tell the tale of what we likely do in the draft my friend. I dont think we are locked into drafting one at all though with JVR coming along fine. Likely we pair him with an experienced one, if not on our list then via trade or FA.

Perhaps we take a development KPF in the later part of the draft however.

Yeah a lot depends on how the list management team view JVR and his development. He looks to be going really well. I for one, think he is already the best key forward on our list.

Yeah, I'd be open to grabbing one via trade or FA but I haven't heard of anyone being available other than maybe Mitch Georgiadis. For the record I would pay twice as much for Mitch than Brodie Grundy. He solves a need, he has age on his side and I'm confident he can become an A grader.

See, you can be a reasonable rational poster if you try. A weirdly good post from you.

I wonder if we made a call to Rankin. Rankin at 800k is far better value than Grundy at 700k. *Yes, I know he wanted to go home

I dont think we have a chance mate, and Rankin is more a goal hungess than a good user. I want guys who can hit JVR, Fritsch and co on the chest.

so like half forwards or silky mids?

Personally, I'd prefer to have a 200cm+ forward that can clunk marks. JVR,by current day standards, is short for a key position player. Down the track we need him playing on a 2nd or 3rd tall defender.

If there's a player I'd love at the dees it'd be Peter Wright. True genuine key forward height at 203cm and a dead eye kick for goal. Larkey would be another but this is just a pipe dream.

JVR looks good but I honestly don't know how you can make this assessment when he hasn't played a single game. Both Browns and Weideman have had way more dominant games at VFL level that JVR hasn't even gotten close to. There is no promise that VFL form translates to the seniors when you're up against bigger, stronger, faster opponents and ten times the pressure. An 18 year old JVR aint going to take pack marks in the pocket that Brown is missing. Very few players could.

No team is going to let their promising young key forwards go and even if they did you would pay through the nose for any contracted player. As someone who has been banging on about not selling out our future draft prospects just to fill a need I would have thought you'd see that.

You're better off going the Gold Coast route and taking a punt on a fringe player like they did with Marbior Chol.

So I was floating by, reading the boards as I do sometimes and this misses the mark by a lot.

1). Collingwood is not going to be covering $400k or $500k of Grundy's salary.
2). Luke Jackson isn't going to West Coast in a forced trade. It will be a choice.
3). The Salem, Hunt, Bowey and Weideman trade flips four alright players into two elite and one potentially elite player. Maynard was AA this year; none of the four were. This would be amongst the worst in human history and Collingwood would not be coughing up their first rounder in a trade they're clearly losing.
4). Petty for Georgiades seems more realistic (it favours Port) but men can and should be allowed to cry without ruining a team spirit.
5). Jordon, Tomlinson, Sparrow, Spargo, Harmes and Melksham - that much list turnover???? Really???? That's what Norf and Gold Coast do after atrocious years. Not Melbourne. And then you're left drafting rookies in the second and third rounds? I think you've created cap space alright.
6). Bruest and Gunston would be unlikely to land at the club together.
7). I didn't realise AA players made good subs. He's playing ahead of a first rounder!
8). Weideman is listed as traded as well as playing on the bench.
9). Baker??? As well?

I hope I've missed a joke or something because that would be one of the dumbest trade periods for all parties involved.

A trade period of
IN: Baker, Grundy, Henry, Maynard, Breust, Gunston, Georgiades, 2x first rounders including Pick 2.
OUT: Salem, Hunt, Bowey, Weideman*, Jordon, Petty, Tomlinson, Sparrow, Spargo, Harmes, and Melksham.

***I'm not trying to be mean, either. But this was a post I couldn't not comment on.

either/either. Would be nice to have someone on the outside of Oliver to finish his work inside and it would be nice to have more Spargo's at half forward who are smart with the ball in hand.
